- UPDATE: The BMX 52 is now out of production. You may still find one online or old shelf stock for just over $100. My BMX is over 6 years old and still going strong.
Overview of my new Igloo BMX 52 quart cooler. Nothing scientific, just my thoughts. Ice cubes made in my freezer lasted 2 days in temps of 50 to 70 degrees plus 2.5 more days in my workshop at 70/90 degrees. If I had kept it in the shade instead of on the picnic table, I probably could have gotten another half day out of the ice. Definitely not up to Yeti standards, but still worth the price to me.
Just ran across this video. I siliconed a gasket into mine, superglued the faces of the hinges to the lid, and superglued the plugs in the handles. Turned a good cooler into a great cooler!
Bob, that's a darn good review. Nice job of showing the important stuff (latches, handles, lid, drain plug, hinges). Thanks.
Excellent points you raised. I also bought the white version and like it's sharp looks. Mine was $100, the current going rate. Very pleased so far. Thanks for your review.
Nice for the price. I only need an ice chest to keep ice for a day or two max. This looks perfect.
Hey Bob, I have the Igloo BMX 25, it has the groove in the lid, also with no gasket. I put some of the sticky back narrow weather stripping foam insulation you can get at a hardware store in that grove. Fits perfectly in there, the raised lip on the on the main cooler body hits that foam for a good seal. Give it a try.
I had some 3/8 wide x 1/8 thick closed cell foam weatherstripping laying around the house. I put a piece on the flat part along the hinges, but it was too thick. Will stop by the store and see what they have. Thanks.
You can even add Yeti or Arctic Ice at the bottom of your cooler. You can easily add another day to whatever ice retention you have.
Those metal tubes are the tie downs points The loops on the lid are for strapping things to the lid.
Those metal tubes are thin gauge and hardly up to the task. I've never had the need to strap anything to a cooler lid and can't imagine why you would. Maybe if t6he lid was completely flat and Igloo made a cushion for it.
I put a gasket on my Igloo's lid. It really helped.
Where did you get the gasket? What Size? Thanks.
Where did you get the gasket?
Same. Stick on weather strip 10$ at home depot. Probably keeps it from leaking a bit too.
@@PickleRick849 1/4 inch wide window weather seal. Got it at Walmart in the weather strip section. It was cheap.
@@ethantagala5941 Walmart. 1/4 inch gray window weather stripping. Cheap.
I just got one of these two weeks ago, great price, nice cooler, good for about 4 days! That's with a lot of ice, but also in a hot car. Not a bad deal! Good point about the plastic plug, drop a dab of crazy glue, other than that, pretty nice rig...................
Great video. To the point and simple. You are the man 👍
that’s cool and all but how many miller lites will this hold?
Can you sit on it without ruining the lid? Always looking for duel or multiple use for such items.
Great review.. I love my igloo bmx
Hi Bob does that organizar inside come with it, or were did you buy it ?
It came from another cooler.
@@bobwestinicky8447 can you tell me what cooler it came out of? Thank you...
OK, I'm gettng an Igloo BMX!
I just looked at this cooler at Target for $99.00 No lid gasket. Looks cheaply built.
Bought a Lifetime 55 from Walmart. Looks to be much better construction for $97.00
Does this cooler have a prop 65 warning on it
No. Probably noted on Igloo's website.
Inside your cooler you have a black box did it come with it or did you get somewhere else? I would like to have the same thing for my own Igloo and thanks for the pointers.
That came with a soft cooler I had.
What size box ?
Nice review
Did it come with a dry food basket? Or did you add them?
The one shown came with a small soft cooler I had.
Could you tell me specifically where you found the tray that fits in there? Thanks for the great video...
It fits inside a generic soft cooler I picked up at a garage sale.
@@bobwestinicky8447 thanks and take care...
Wow, up to $150 now but still decent for the price
Dose it fit in a kayak
Hi Bod when did you purchased divider inside the cooler what is the dimension divider Please would be respond I just bought one and I need to buy correct dividers
It is an insert for a soft cooler that I bought at a garage sale.
Ice...how long does it retain the ice for?
$80!? It’s 150 now 😢
Does the lid have insulation inside or is it hollow plastic?
Looks like it doesn’t have insulation on the lid. I keeped it in the truck whole day and when opened it, lid was hot from inside.
Bob, nice review. 😉 --Mark
why does the color of the cooler matter with ice retention? are they made differently or something thx
White reflects heat. Black absorbs
@@forrestjbernard reflects sunlight, not heat. If you keep your cooler in the shade, it doesn't matter what color it has.
Very helpful Thanks
has the hinges broke yet
Where did you buy the trav to fit this cooler
It came in a soft cooler that I bought at a garage sale.
Just got one of these coolers; I live in Texas and it's 90+ outside. Put a 7lb bag of unopened ice in the cooler, inside the garage, totally dark, no sun coming in. 24 hours later the ice was almost completely melted and the water temp was 50 degrees. Another 24 hours and the water temp was 82 degrees. This is a horrible product. Don't waste your money. Taking mine back....
what "Goop" did you put on the handles?
I don't recall, but any Goop will do.
How are you liking it now that you've had it a while?
Still happy with it. I would like ice to last a little longer, but who wouldn't. I live in Arizona and have found that I get 4 summer days with 20 pounds of grocery store ice. Should be good for 5 or more days come winter.
Ok good I been looking at these but seen mixed reviews. Some say they're junk others saying the rubber locks broke after only a few days ect.. So just wanted to get your opinion. I mean for $80 or so I don't expect to be the best. But want something better than my cheap $20 Coleman
? Did I miss it? How long will it keep ice?
Yes you did. Read the description.
How long will ice last
See description.
It’s now $148
I hate yeti. No cooler is worth as much as the cheapest yeti
Sound so much like Ron Swanson from parks and rec
LMAO My role model.
@@bobwestinicky8447 so real question is do you like the cooler still or not
@@odanhammer Holding up well and still keeping things cold. Not much more to ask.
Rear hinges are garbage still...no strength.
Screw and epoxy on some metal gate hinges if the plastic ones fail. Solved.
