Thanks a lot for explaining it, I have a 2018 Civic Si Coupe, and I had assumed I needed to buy tire sensors, and the dealership I called said I didn’t need them. I have been searching to confirm this on the internet, because I was so amazed by not needing to buy them, and on top of that, the mechanic I went to was still trying to sell them to me. Perhaps he didn’t know about this, or he was trying to cheat me. So thanks to you and Galpin Honda for telling me about this, and saving me a lot of money!
Great informative video, I will be taking delivery of my CTR in a week or two and was curious how the tpms worked. I wished it would display the tire pressures of each tire on the infotainment. But this is just fine. Thanks again!
The TPMS system on the FK8 is so sensitive. It happens quite often for me. I heard somewhere that it’s best to reset the TPMS three times on the bounce to get it to fully reset. Not sure how true that is.
all it is doing is reading each wheel's speed relative to the other wheels. If the algo detects something is off, it'll send you a light. Just check air pressures for uniformity, reset, and go on with your day.
Honda TPMS system picked up 3psi drop in pressure due to slow puncture in one wheel of our CRV. Many issues with corrosion in individual tyre monitoring devices used by BMW. When considering how rare punctures are these days the Honda system is by far the most practical & cost effective.
I would have to say having the individual sensor in each tire is more robust than the Honda system. If you have someone who does not maintain their vehicle, then trying to determine which tire has low pressure then this is a detriment to the vehicle owner. But, thank you for helping me now understand why the same system has been used since at least 2010. My daughter owned a 2010 and now has a 2020 Civic. I could not understand why a specific location of the tire with the low pressure could be identified. Of course the Honda system is less expensive for the manufacturer.
I had 3 warnings the day I took my car home when there was no problem. It was 15 degrees out. By 500 miles I had a noisy brake too. I'm hoping it's just excess dust or salt. I'm only going out on days the pavement is clear but some places have salt dust on the roads.
Great video Elias. Very informative. I've been wanting to let you know that I really like the added animated video clips you include in your videos that visually help show what you're talking about. I don't know where you get them from but they're always excellent and really add a nice touch to your videos. Keep up the great work .
Thanks for this. I am having issues with the system re-setting after replacing one tire. Tire dealer says it's because the tread depth is different than the other three but, from your video here, I am seeing it should accomodate for that. What else could have gone wrong that I can't get the TPMS to recalibrate? The error message "Tire Pressure Monitoring System Problem" comes on after about 20 minutes of driving (between 45 and 65 mph).
Late to this party, the bmw M cars show you tyre pressure and temperature, including alerting to punctures. All that is useful to know when leaning on the car. The circumference / speed sensing of a tyre is so simplistic, I'd be embarrassed to admit it if I couldn't feel a corner losing pressure and needed a light to tell me, then again I grew up in the analogue world so maybe anything is better than nothing.
Hey there, another great video !!! Quick question for you... When I'm driving my type r I hear a high pitch rattle sound when I let go of the gas as the car is deacelerating I'm not sure what the sound is... it's not there when it's in neutral ... only in gear and not when I'm accelerating, it's only when I let off the gas Hopefully you have an idea of what this is! I only hear it when windows are down and only when car is in gear . Hope I made sense lol Thank you!!!
I have, but then I look at the market, it's saturated with cheap crap and/or ultra expensive stuff. Can I just get a really good one for 120 bucks? lol
Hey brother I’m having that same screech in my front right break and I’ve tried to get it dealt with but no success I was just wondering if you know what it is and what you’re doing about it
So far so good. I'd top off the tire pressure 40psi for all wheels, tpms light haven't turn on since. It really does work for custom wheels too! Thanks bro
thanks flyingato, that fixed it! I think I screwed up, though....I decided to use that crummy air compressor that comes with the Type R,..and blew a crapload of gluey stuff into one of my valve stems. What?!! All I wanted to do was top up my tires; I guess I could have read the directions, but jeez who would a thought they'd put goop inside an air compressor? Needless to say I yanked the thing off my tire, getting goop all over my hands, pants, rim, etc. IMHO they should have just put a little 12v compressor (with a friggin GAUGE!) and a can of fix-flat.
funny, I like driving the mountains and flatlands in Death Valley in my Type R, and the quick elevation changes always set off the tire sensor. Something about going from 200 feet below sea level to 7000ft and back and forth all day just drives the sensor nuts. The guy at the Furnace Creek gas station told me he has to loan out his tire gauge several times a day for this issue. I find it nerve-wracking doing hairpins with certain-death cliffs when the tire pressure yellow lite is on,..even knowing it's a false alarm, it still tightens the scrotum

When the tpms lights on i found the best time to calibrate when the tyres are warm and btw very informative video 👍👍👍
Thanks Armando!
Good point, just installed my winter wheels/tires and I think you solved the issue I was having with a recurring warning light. Thanks!
The TPMS system on the FK8 is so sensitive. It happens quite often for me. I heard somewhere that it’s best to reset the TPMS three times on the bounce to get it to fully reset. Not sure how true that is.
That happens to me every time I drive my type r
@@hugoramirez1221 do you just ignore it and reset the warning?
Well, yeah i reset it, every time that I see it
all it is doing is reading each wheel's speed relative to the other wheels. If the algo detects something is off, it'll send you a light. Just check air pressures for uniformity, reset, and go on with your day.
@@FlyinGato that’s what I tend to do, but the pressure light comes on very frequently, which is less than ideal.
Honda’s system is the best(most convenient) IMO. Good explanation!!😎
Agreed!

I agree, I like it!
The sensors can break very easily when changing the tyre also. Doing it by the wheel speed sensors is the best idea.. great video once again mate..
thanks Cameron!

Thanks Tim! I usually get video clips from copyright free sources, or from Press Videos.
Bro thank you for this video. We just picked up 2017 #71 and the light came on. Had no idea what to do. lol
BMW may have to use individual TPMS due to use of run flat tyres, for which it may be a mandatory requirement.
That's actually a good point.
Amazing video my car light keeps coming on! So it's super helpful!

rotate the tires, make sure you inflate them all to the right pressures, and then recallibrate
FlyinGato Done and done. Still having this issue. Today I was told my 3 older tires self-inflated so the pressures didn't match again. I'm baffled.
What the... That's baffling, from the way it works it shouldn't be that sensitive
@@lapearlie8982 i have the same problem, do you find a solution?
Mines been giving me the warning light every time I drive it, all the pressures are set and I always Calibrate. I wonder if it's the speed sensor

I won type r 2021 and show low air but I check it and nothing wrong with air, it’s about air sensor?

+Rob B hey bud, that's the LSD decoupling, helical LSDs do that, it's like a high pitched metallic sound right?
Yeah that's definitely it then! Thanks so much for your fast reply man!
happy to help!
Very informative thank you!! Almost let my sister take her 2019 civic to the shop (figured they’d have to reset it )
Glad I could help!
This is a recurring issue with Honda. My ‘13 Odyssey has had the TPMS light on for over 2 years now.. I stopped worrying about it..
yea it's more annoying than anything.
Have you thought about installing a dual channel dashcam onto the type r?
I have, but then I look at the market, it's saturated with cheap crap and/or ultra expensive stuff. Can I just get a really good one for 120 bucks? lol
FlyinGato maybe one that's only for the front. Or you could keep saving up to get a good one.
Hey brother I’m having that same screech in my front right break and I’ve tried to get it dealt with but no success I was just wondering if you know what it is and what you’re doing about it
You have to change brake pads for a permanent fix, if you're in the US I'll be releasing a video for cheap pads that work really well and don't squeal
What oil are you using on you type r?
Still on the factory fill, not sure yet what I'll use when I change it next.
Can this process still work if you have aftermarket chrome wheels on the car??
It does
So far so good. I'd top off the tire pressure 40psi for all wheels, tpms light haven't turn on since. It really does work for custom wheels too! Thanks bro
I have to reset my light every week
Did you ever experience when going reverse slow. The type R has a loose hanger noise
Yeah that's a brake squeak, happens a lot
4:14 so where do the speed sensors located at ? when i change the wheels do I have to take off the sensors from factory wheels ?
No, the speed sensors are the ABS sensors, the wheels don't have tpms
@@FlyinGato thanks for the info!
Thanks!! Great video!!
Thanks!
You just helped me out a tons!!!!

Don't want to sound stupid.. so there are no Tpms sensors on the type R ?
There aren't
Thanks bro. Just got one off copart with no tires and I was driving myself crazy trying to figure out where to get the sensors lol
I always lose air pressure both rear tires. 33 psi. 3 times a month goes down to 15 psi. Smh.
Well explained thank you. :)
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you gato 🔥🔥🔥🔥🥊🥊
Had the same issue in my fa5 and now my wifes CRV.
man, it can definitely be annoying
Is it tru if u got one of the tires not the same kind but same size it can trigger urs tpms sensor light?
I am wondering the same thing. Did you ever get a response?
It's possible but unlikely
Any words of wisdom to offer the Tire Dealer as he attempts to remedy the always-on sensor error now that he replaced just one tire?
It stays on even after recallibration?
Make sure all the sizes are the same, diameter size mattress, so does tire pressure
Thanks bro
Thanks really good video
Mine 2018 Honda Civic hack back got for 3 months ... it kinda suck
Tire shops need special equipment to mount the tire (to avoid damaging the BMW/TPMS stem) Technicians need to be trained. TPMS sensors corrode
Ctr Canada gets the driver camera , we get Tpms
CTRs should have been more standard across the world.
Tpms is dumb. Issue on every car I’ve own. It’s annoying.
My S2000 and Prelude don't have em, never had an issue! lol
FlyinGato I mean every car that have TPMS as an feature.
Dude, I have a bmw, and you can take the sensor out from the wheel you're changing. And put it on the new wheel.. simple
I have two BMWs, if you have multiple sets of wheels it becomes a pricey problem
Your brake rotors are probably just as dirty as your nav screen...ergo the squeak
And in the SI
