      Ha! I was supposed to install BL on the a similar device. Trouble is, I have the 64GB Go 2, so cannot have both Win11 and another OS. Happy to remove Win11 and just have BL on it. Is this what you did?

    As a fan of both BL and CB++ of course I'd like to see a comparison video! My favorite of the two is still CB++, it is more lightweight and is a lot more like the original CB.. while BL feels more experimental with each release and comes with some other features.

    I have tried Bunsenlabs Linux on an ancient HP computer with a Pentium 4 "630" CPU, and it worked great.
    Openbox (or Fluxbox) may look "exotic" and not very inviting to use, but it is not that hard to "learn" to configure.
    I am currently not running Bunsenlabs, but I am keeping it in mind as a possible Linux distro.

    Spot on Veronica, for not inserting an ad after 10 sec's. I must have killed hundreds of vids that hit me with an ad so early. Right then, right there! Do they think that I'm that hard-up for content that I can mostly find everywhere? (Not your videos by the way, like your online guides they are easy to understand, helpful and fresh. So, thanks!)

    I looked into the differences between Administered and Administrated and I think they're correct in their use of Administrated but both are reasonable to use. They more or less mean the same thing but Administrated is more often used in the overseeing of operations or functions of an organization or system. Administering something generally implies a more hands-on connotation, as in they are doing it in person (e.g. administering medication). Sorry, you got me curious and I had to look up what the distinction was

    • @trueriver1950
      @trueriver1950 6 месяцев назад +1

      I dislike the words that add "rat" in place of "er" just on aesthetic grounds.
      However some folk do defend "administrated" specifically when some by someone whose role or job title is "administrator", rather than the administrative being merely a part of a wider role
      Your example of a nurse as administering meds to a patient might be an example of this, whereas those who defend the term administrate would use that if the fact that a charge nurse is the designated administrator of a whole ward.
      Personal I still don't like it, but don't hate it sufficiently to rock the boat of it's someone else's usage. There are better things to worry about, unless as here someone specifically raises the question. Thank you for doing so, and for your research 😊

      @@trueriver1950sure, but you're talking about preference and I'm talking about common usage. I don't know if I have a preference to be honest. Maybe administrated if forced to choose

    • @nomennudum4592

    Some kind of a video grabber that is able to show the boot process would be a nice advantage. You just plug the grabber into USB port in the machine where you are streaming with OBS or other software for streaming. Connect the HDMI cable to grabber and to a machine that you are booting up and that's it.

    administered is indeed a word, you use it when you give some someone medicine. A doctor administers you the medicine. It is not related to Administration, which is the root you're looking for. The Administrator administrates a number of servers. Yesterday, she administrated the servers. The more common word, however, is "managed"

    Really enjoyed this! I used Openbox for many years, before switching to Cinnamon and then Plasma. I've started to use tiling in Plasma, but it's not quite flexible enough, so I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing about how you get on with Sway!
    Very temped to buy an IODD ST400 now. Would be very handy!
    Also, completely agree on what you said about Bitwig and Ardour. I actually used Ardour for podcast editing for a few years and felt that it was the perfect fit, but Bitwig wins for music. With some WINE shenanigans (yabridge) it even works well with the handful of Windows VSTs (XLN Audio, Spitfire Labs) that I've tried.

    #! was my main a decade ago, given my laptop at the time wasn't powerful enough to run anything else. I loved it so much, I actually made desktop backgrounds for it that I shared with the community. I was heartbroken when it was discontinued. I tried these project continuations, but it just didn't feel the same. It was probably just time, especially given that I'd moved on.

    I like the name BunsenLabs because it's sciency. I was pretty loyal to the Debian/Ubuntu family until I found out openSUSE is actually really good. I like having the latest packages which is why openSUSE Tumbleweed is best for me. It's also more user friendly than other rolling distros.
    30:09 I used XP for most of my life until I bought my laptop in 2022 which runs Windows 11. I like the look of Windows XP. It's very unique. Later versions are much easier on the eyes though. A lot people doggone Windows Vista, but I'd say it has the most cozy theme out of all the Windows versions.
    53:54 That there is a widget. Other people were saying conky. I hate the word conky. I don't know if it's a regional term.

    I use Easy2Boot on a 64Gb USB stick to test different OSes, and I have to admit that Ventoy is a fine choice for that. Not being an IT guy by nature, I value ease of use and keep both rescue tools and OSes handy on the stick and also bootable DVDs w external DVD burner. Linux distros are also getting better all the time and I appreciate the Unix system logic. My generic stick folds so that it has both USB-A and USB-C ends available - first I've seen so far, useful also. Nice vid!

    The menu system in BunsenLabs reminds me of the MagicMenu utility program on the Amiga. I guess BeOS as well...?
    The ,1 in the load command LOAD "*",8,1 tells the C64 to load a binary file to the RAM address that was embedded in the file. Without the ,1 it loads the file to the top of BASIC's RAM area.

  • @myhappyabby
    @myhappyabby 6 месяцев назад

    Load "x", 8,1 The 8 meant the device type The 1 meant you loaded from the first device in the chain.. But most people didn't think because there most people used only one drive. But you could daisy chain the drives and at least according to older document could have more than one device chain.

    @30:22 Toward the end of Windows XP's run they had a few extra themes that I really liked. There was the bluer theme originally designed for Windows XP Media Center and also the orange and black theme that I really liked. They were all legit themes from Microsoft for XP.

    • @jimjamz.
      @jimjamz. 6 месяцев назад

      Royale was the blue "glossier" theme you're thinking of, and Zune was the black theme, which was tied into Microsoft acquiring the brand from Creative. Themes could be slipstreamed into XP so that they were enabled automatically on a Windows XP install. I revisited this just a couple of weeks ago as I had to re-build my slipstreamed XP nlite ISO from about 16 years ago. Search for Royale Remixed theme, which is a collection of the themes, and doesn't require a uxtheme patcher.

    1GB RAM used in an Openbox live session? What the hail?! And it's 450MB for the 32-bit release, but htop says 230MB. Still a lot for openbox - not sure what's going on there (haven't looked).

      I don't know, for integrated graphics connected to a 4K capture device I think it's pretty reasonable.

    • @kneekoo
      @kneekoo 6 месяцев назад +1

      In my "playtest" (QEMU VM, to be fair) with Debian 12 RC3 32-bit last year I had 167MB of RAM usage with openbox, lxpanel and Task Manager open. I didn't customize anything, or compile stuff, just a netinstall and manual install of xorg, lightdm and bare minimum for a graphical session. I themed it and used a wallpaper, so it could at least look appealing, but only 1440x900. Maybe Conky was doing a bit more work on Bunsenlabs, and maybe something else.
      Thanks for your reply. :) I should try Conky in my Debian VM, I see I still have it.

    • @kneekoo
      @kneekoo 6 месяцев назад +1

      Ok, so the default Conky reports 379MB RAM usage. I fired up Task Manager and that reports 177MB RAM, while Conky went up to 385MB. Really inconsistent memory reporting. :) But at least htop and Task Manager are quite close to each other in their reporting. The VM certainly requires less RAM due to less loaded drivers compared to bare metal installs, so there's that too.
      Thanks for trying and reminding me of Bunsenlabs. I got excited when they carried CrunchBang's torch along with Crunchbang++. I just noticed the latter has lower RAM usage with Debian Bookworm, so I have another one to try now. And it reminds me of the defunct Semplice Linux - that was minimalistic but very cute and cozy too.

    I absolutely love Debian but unfortunately a downside to Debian is a lack of new hardware support. I had to upgrade my graphics card because of problems i was having independent from Debian but then Debian couldn't support the new card. I found the solution would mean doing things that would, in my view, make Debian less stable and reliable so i switched to Fedora. But i still absolutely love Debian and don't fault it because it's explicitly not about adopted newer stuff the moment it comes out so I'll just install it on my older system I'm setting up as a NAS

      No! Administrated is just about acceptable (though personally I dislike it). Inputted is just plain wrong grammatically.
      "Put" is already a past participle as well as being the infinitive of the same verb, and so is "input" which is simply "put" with a prefix. To say "inputted" is a grammatical mistake that is similar to saying "hadded" instead of "had", or saying "betterer" (unless trying to be funny, when it is the mistake that creates the humour).

      Extra syllables in "administered" can be forgiven. Perhaps just trunk it to admin'd.
      Words that get my blood boiling are: over-exaggerate, impactful, and irregardless.

    You want minimal - Yggdrasil, X11R4, and TWM 👹. Go back to SunOS, SCO, and any Common Desktop Environment for the click-for-menu operation.

      @@VeronicaExplains Mmmm, CDE?. Is there any current distro/repo that I could use to bring this into my daily computer?. This brings memories from the time I spent on a Sun workstation 😋
      Thinking a little bit more abut it, maybe there's a gnome extension that does exactly that, hehe. I need to look it up.

      @@juanjoitab because CDE was built on top of motif, you would need to find a way to update the open source lesstif platform.

    Life is better once you move away from Debian based distros imho, but thats just my person opinion. Arch, Gentoo, LFS, Slackware maybe not in that order lol

    i want a bunsenlabs for raspberrypi ;)

      @trueriver1950 6 месяцев назад +2

      As bunsenlabs uses unpatched Debian, the only things that would need to be recompiled would be the additional things that bunsenlabs has added.
      Debian is not ideal for some versions of the pi due to the Debian choice of optimisation: that's why Raspbian was initially launched back in the day. However it will work.
      You could also try using the Raspbian plus the extras: but you're more likely to find issues appearing.

    Discord is great because it doesn't pollute search engines with billions of pages of stuff that you will never look at that fill up a giant portion of your search results. We don't need 5 million results showing 5 million variations for every thing you search for all from various dates & years with no idea if the info is even relevant to today anymore.
