I was *going crazy* trying to find this video - I'd got Lucy Rimmer singing the Idle Race's "Unhappy Birthday" stuck in my head (this version was the first version I'd ever heard, before I heard the original version by the Idle Race), and I couldn't get it out, and I knew I'd seen this footage before, but for some reason, I couldn't find the video for a long time, and I was afraid it'd been pulled - and now that I've found it, I feel *more relieved than I can say* . I wish that Mark had let Brixie sing lead on this song, though, for, while I don't *hate* Lucy Rimmer, I will say that she can't compare to the glorious Brix.
@Big Valerie Neither. I'm Canadian. I *love* the Fall, but most people around where I live haven't heard of them at all. That's one of the reasons why I spend so much time online. I'm a poet and a songwriter - you can hear one of my latest poems here: ruclips.net/video/LnG41XLUsNU/видео.html - and one of my major poetic inspirations is Mark E. Smith (I consider Smith to be a poet). My favorite bands are the Birthday Party and the Fall. P.S: Thanks for your comment.
Elizabeth, you really love the Fall don't ya? Can't blame you, they're incredible. This isn't the first comment of yours I've come across amid my late night fall sessions.
@@lewiswyndham9285 Guilty as charged. I do, indeed, really love the Fall. And - as I mentioned above - most of the people around where I live haven't heard of them at all. So that's why I spend so much of my time online, writing crazed impassioned missives in comments-threads about what various Fall songs make me think of. I'm a poet and songwriter and I credit Mark E. Smith as a major inspiration. I only wish that I could write a song (or a poem) as good as the songs he wrote.
Thing is, no one was supposed to like Him. He didn't really like or respect anyone. He just made music no-one else did. If you don't like it then move on. He was not there to make friends in the music industry .
Great to see some of this footage finally seeing the light of day after 14 years. Thanks. Is there anything behind why the excerpts chosen is of a cover version rather than a Fall original with Smith vox?
I remember seeing The Fall twice in London in 1995 and this is taking me back 💖💖💖💖💖
The look on Burns face is priceless. He's clearly thinking 'this is shit and she cant sing'.
always really loved this birthday song. just love the guitars and Lucy's voice is fine with me
Agree. The last thing MArk needs in the FALL! Is a vocalist with any specific quality. If it’s me and ya granny on bongos...
The sexual chemistry between Mark and Brix at 4:15
This is stunning; a brilliant insight into the group.
Many thanks Julia
Love the Fall.
Great video. Steve, Si and Craig are rocking it out! Singer has good rhythm and gets the rock and roll job done.

Thank you, Julia!!!
fantastic! please, we all need more of this!!!
mark coming in with the air guitar
MES, only singer that can show you how to do it slightly off, and be correct.
😂😂😂
Gets better the more I play it.🎤😎
Karl Burns is hilarious.
You wouldn't say that to his face. ;)
RIP Lucy Rimmer.
