- Joan Lunden goes behind closed doors of one of the world's most popular game shows, "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" Lunden goes backstage with the highest paid game show host in history, Regis Philbin, talks with Executive Producer Michael Davies and learns all the ins and outs of the show. She also gets her chance in the hot seat for a shot at the big money, learns how the Millionaire staff comes up with their riveting questions and reveals what it's like for the contestants just minutes before show time.
the most successful television game show franchise of all time.
This show is from Celedor Production UK - the game was draft up only one piece of rough paper...
18:43 The woman Regis was referring to was Kati Knudson, who made it to the $500,000 question and spent almost an hour trying to figure the answer out. If you watch her run, you’ll see how it ended…
I believe Ms. Knudson was the reason why they brought in 15 second timers.
@@occono3543The timed version of Millionaire wouldn’t happen for another 8 years, but Knudsen was the reason why production gave contestants 60 minutes for their entire run.
I love Regis
We are delighted to announce that Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? is marking it's 25th anniversary in 2023, the programme first started on 4th September 1998. The silver jubilee of the global TV phenomenon. Chris Tarrant is the main man of the show.
09:38 funny that 'Jason' really is just the first letters of consecutive months starting with July. I did not know that.
@19:22, "No, it's not the final answer; you just lost a lot of money."
It's Fresca. Fresca. Ken leaves with $25,000. (Ken Basin on 10th Anniversary special-only aired on ABC in '09)
Why is it not tax free winnings like here in the UK. Technically you’re not a millionaire if you win the million on the US version.
At 18:20, does anyone know why Regis has six coloured boxes? I've seen them before, but never understood the information there.
In reading order:
Questions away from $1 Million, Current/Walkaway Winnings, Correct Answer (e.g. "Corr: A")
Winnings if Correct, Winnings if Incorrect, Cash Lost if Incorrect ("should you miss, you'll lose $468,000")
Of course, that Correct Answer box is blank because Regis, as he mentions, never sees it until he gets a Final Answer. I believe it also only flashes up if wrong, which is true of the UK version for sure.
@@yabbaguy Thank you.
12:00 this is the studio where slumdog millionaire is based on.
You mean 12:03??
Yeah
Nope, is the Russian WWTBAM in the 2000
The "contestant waiting room"? That was actually a sideroom off the ABC cafeteria where staffers and network employees ate their lunch.
Jonathan Allen How Many Shows Are Taped In One Day?
19:46 *HE WON A MILLION DOLLARS*
5:21 Millionaire primetime episode I felt like that is missing.
Lawrence Caplan (1-14-00) finished on the next show (1-15-00)
@19:21, Only once did we hear that music
...until Ken Basin lost on 8-23-09
@@Computerman859 This track was part of the original score library the Strachans submitted for the 1998 original UK series, but the UK shows have never used it. It was on the PS1 and PC games. It basically sat waiting for a decade until Ken Basin gave the producers the pleasure of pressing the button to use it :P
Wonder which one of the international hosts gets paid the most.
beepers and pagers....man this old
"all American catch phrase" - is it not British?
It may have started in Britain, but with the way it BLEW UP in the states... it became an adopted all-american phrase, i guess you could say, with how crazy popular and common the phrase got because of the show.
