I'm really glad I found this video. A Bachmann GP35 was the first DCC and brand new in box engine I ever bought. It was back a long time ago when I decided to get back into the hobby and I thought it was a decent engine for the price. I sold it long a go, but I've decided to buy two of them and fit them with Sound decoders, fresh internals (depending on the performance) and extra exterior details. I'm still waiting on them from Ebay, but in the mean time I've been trying to do some research and there isn't much out there for people upgrading them. I like how you milled the frame for the new decoder and speaker and plan to do the same. I've never done anything more than DCC/sound kit install where everything was plug and play and had a specific place to sit inside the frame, so I'm both really excited and nervous about the project, but this video really helps me see what is involved so thanks again!
I'm guessing you must live or grew up in Western MD. I was born in Cumberland,MD in 1947 and have many fond memories of Steam and Diesel trains running in the 50's. My Grandfather was a Conductor on the B&O.

Close, WV, the Western Maryland ran through Elkins. It was not uncommon to see WM power with B&O power running through Fairmont and Grafton.
