  • 14th May 2024.
Very wet in the morning, though it did settle later on, but a rather dull and drizzly start to my walk, though it was quite warm.
Began at Victoria Hall in Saltaire, then a short walk along the canal followed by a steady climb up through woodland. I found the track a little difficult to follow through the wood, but found the road where I needed to be. I did detour up to the trig on Hope Hill despite the rain as it was my plan to do as many of the high alternatives as possible.
The moors were rather boggy and visibility poor for a while, and although it did slowly improve, there were no clear views.
Nothing too difficult today, but with wearing waterproof gear on a warm day, I did find it a bit tiring.
    14.79 miles

What a difference 11mths makes! I walked this path Jun 23 toward the end of last years heatwave. Everything was so dry from start to finish - with the sun behind you all the way, the backs of my legs were heaily tanned whilst the fronts remained white.

Must have been hard going in that heat. I had pretty good weather apart from the first day and even then it was very warm. I found the heat made it harder going especially when climbing Ingleborough and Whernside. It was easier over the Howgills as it was much cooler. Hope you enjoyed the route and didn't suffer from sunburn.

Finally got round to making a start on these. Damp and foggy start but loved the barge name 😂

@@pipes-hikes despite the rain and fog, it was very muggy - I was so hot with my waterproofs on. Yes the barge has a great name doesn't it!
