I do understand about the antenna some as the Eton has a whip antenna, but sounds like they need to go to a regular telescopic antenna as it does not sound like the whip antenna is helping very much! Lol… I love advancements and was hoping this one would offer new things, even though I couldn’t afford one anyway, I just love the technological aspects anyway! Lol… but yes, it’s SHOCKING what they released as a $600 radio! Thank you!
Yeah that's the best decision. Tecsun make far better receivers quality wise, and I own an Eton Elite Executive which is actually a pretty decent receiver.
A Tecsun PL-660 is a good place to start. Forget about DSP based portables with the exception of the Sangean ATS-909X2 which is the only properly engineered DSP portable SW receiver on the market. Some might include the Belka but that thing is band crippled.
Many people who have bought that Eaton have sent them back, i dont think that Eaton worthy of your collection, i was thinking of buying the Tecsun 501 for portable use. Thx. Matt
I already sent it back! Great minds think alike! The 501 is good but I think the 990 is better for less money. Only advantage to the 501 is the 2 larger speakers. If you don’t have one, you need to get a tecsun pl368. Fits in a shirt pocket with a “candy bar” form factor
I think that Eton, Tecsun, and Sangeon should start having their radios designed and built in Japan. Much better component part quality there and better Q/C. Yes it would cost more but you would get a higher quality product and not disgrace your brand name. I have Panasonic and Sony radios that are 50 years old and still perform well.
Not feasible and besides, the Sangeans are pretty decent in terms of build quality. I have no issues with my 909X2 apart from the lack of additional ssb filters. The Tecsuns on the other hand are a total fail on the DSP variety.
Would be cheaper to build in the USA than Japan, but no one is going to invest several 100 million into a plant to build radios nor would people be willing to pay $3,000 for a top radio, which is what top radios sold in the 70s would cost today with inflation. Only one city in China produces all the radios in the world today.
I got a tecsun 501x and so far I can't quit playing around with it. I get way less interference and noise that I get with my tecsun pl880 and sangean 909x2. Plus the sound quality is excellent. My only problem is battery consumption.....I keep a bunch of batteries charged up. Going to try it on electric some time.
@@user-or1ce7ez5w sound quality is excellent on BT, SD card too. On FM it depends on the station audio, it will differ from station to station but the stations that have the best sonic audio quality ie not over-compressed will sound superb.
This is not a nice radio. Asking price appears to be around $900.00 which is ridiculous considering this radio is so far behind the Tecsun H-501X. Get the Tecsun that has rave reviews. The Eaton should sell for no more than $90.00 US.
This sounds like a grounding issue. When you plugged the external antenna into this receiver that annoying buzz went away because your external antenna is most likely grounded.
Yes. I'm not expert. But I always used to get static in my old house on FM. Got a bit better when I'd turn off my halogen floor lamp. But still not good.
Wish I could have found your channel a while back as there are lots of reviews from people who are not qualified to give their opinions. They open the box of receiver and give their reviews on appearance and sound and I believed the Eton 750 was the radio that would be good for my needs. Being a retired Ham with sixty years experience but no longer active thought it might be nice to listen round the bands. The radio is faulty and I cannot contact Eton from Canada or California, email or text to get it returned, it is like they do not exist. If anyone knows how to contact them I would like to send this $600 brick back to get some results.
You're right -- the Eton radio sounds like ass. I wouldn't want one if they gave it to me for free! It's only a matter of time before Eton is liquidating these at cost.
If only Sony could have made a truly automatic pre-selector such as the 6800 W that I have which is when tuned correctly much better than my old Sony 2010, and receivers you are currently testing, in a case the same as the Sony 2010....I can dream can't I.

Do not buy that piece of ...... After all these years is a shame that Eton has not fixed the problems of that item yet. I am still working with my Grundig Satellit 3400, with my Grundig Satellit 650 and with my Sony ICF 2001D. As a DXer I started to listen SW radio when I was 13 in 1974 using an old Zenith Trans Oceanic of my grandfather. At the present day I am 62 and I have obtained more than 2.500 QSLs. Ah, I had forgotten to say that my QTH is the Canary Islands.
@@dieselten01 Not necessarily. Both whip antennas can mess with each other. Just because the Tecsun plays well the Eton may be reacting to the Tecsun. The proper way to test is one on at a time. Not volume down... one on, one off. Given what I'm hearing with Eton I doubt it would make any difference but the commentor does have a very valid point from a testing standpoint.

I can't help notice but every single screw, every single lettering in the battery case etc etc indicates to me they took a bunch of unsold E1's from 20 years ago and tried to slap on a new circuit board on it with probably an Si4734 chip and make it into a new radio. That would explain why the battery case is the way it is. I can't see how this is correctable and the reputation for the radio is already ruined.
I have the old Eton E1XM here at home excellent radio from 2005. I will be buying any Eton Radios in the future! The Eton E1 I use on a loop antenna and a inverted Vee! I made look into the Tecsun Flag ship radio though
@@dieselten01 Note it maybe a issue with a electric power line I had that happen to me a few years ago and called the power company about it with a Ham helping me find the location of what was going on. It was a loose wire that was causing the problem is what they told me who knows. The Power company that I have power with it was not their pole so they called the other power company here and it was their pole. Could be the LED lights also in the house the ones they call smart light bulbs! But the Tecsun did not have that issue so something going on! Eton is shot itself in the foot in my opinion! Hoe you fine the issue but if you are ready having these issues you may get your money back! Wish you good luck!
The TECSUN kills that one with the hum thats sad i love TECSUNS its sad that one with the screen has a hum buzz noise its the phase lock loop section the amc is not limiting down the unwanted noise. Somewhere in the first if is badly designed iam sorry for this man i be really pissed off if my new radio made that rf hash 😖📻⚛ and we pay good money for that stuff🤨
Absolute disapointing. I have the Eton E1 XM and it is a very sensitive radio. If you thinkg this preacher is a freak show, wait till you listen to one who calls himself "the wailer" on WRMI. Thanks for the video. Based on your reports and Dan's I warned my colleagues not to try and by this thing.
I have an Eton E1 from 2007 model, very bad quality The cabinet IS made of Rubber,IS not portable!! The listening in short wave let enter a lot of noise, you end with headache....
I am glad I watched this.... be i wasted my money on this piece of garbage 🗑️... Can't find a Good radio now... Thay have bad tuners.....I don't like the Muting to too...U can't hunt for weak signals

Eton has become junk over the years. Stop letting companies get away with this. Customers shouldn't be testers.
Eton has a few good radios, the BT Field Radio and Elite Executive Radio are pretty good. But this is a #####...

Unfortunately before I realized the grace period had ended with Amazon and I have found it impossible to talk to Eton regardless of method.

The Tecsun 501x is a great radio. It is too bad about the Eton. I own an Eton Elite and am quite happy with its performance.

Sounds like A/C adaptor noise, Try on battery power.

I recently got the Grundig City Boy 20...I got L A and San Francisco clear here in my part or the Pacific ..far more reaching then this Garbage...😮

That is a bad radio.... there is no doubt...I would not buy..it ...it is from the computer inside the set it self.....it is not good!!!!
That 'new' Eton is a train wreck, what a embarrassment Eton.
It's picking up the digital clock or driver or some such. Just not well designed. It needs better shielding from itself. LOL 🤣 🖖 👌

Well, there's now no such thing as a decent portable shortwave or AM DXing radio. They all disappeared in the 80s. RIP SW, MW, LW DXing.
