I've watched all of your lectures regarding all types of corrosion, learned really a lot! Thanks!! I've passed the most important interview of my life with the help of these videos! Endless thanks !
What a pity! To be using the movie medium to make a uni-dimensional presentation. For such excellent lectures, the visuals should use case history and animations brightly and colourfully picturised. It may cost money but if properly done I am sure NACE would pay for it. Lectures are excellent. We who have spent decades in the industry realize how much Corrosion Technology is neglected in the mainstream engineering curricula and the result is everywhere to be seen!
🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:15 📚 This course on environmental degradation of materials covers various aspects of material degradation when exposed to the environment. 02:13 ⚙️ Materials can degrade due to physical, chemical, or mechanical effects, including factors like heat, radiation, and chemical agents like oxygen, moisture, or acids. 06:08 🛢️ The primary focus of this course is on corrosion and oxidation of metals and alloys, as well as prevention mechanisms. 10:44 ⚗️ Topics covered include thermodynamics and kinetics of degradation, electrochemical reactions, and corrosion measurement techniques. 13:46 🔄 The mix potential theory is discussed to understand the advanced aspects of corrosion, passivation, and different forms of corrosion. 16:16 📊 The course also covers corrosion measurement methods, failure analysis, and various factors affecting corrosion, such as stress, impurities, and oxygen presence. 18:05 🛠️ Corrosion control strategies include material selection, equipment design, environmental changes, electrochemical protection, and coatings. 20:15 🧪 While metals and alloys are the main focus, the course briefly touches on the degradation of other materials like polymers, composites, and ceramics. 21:54 🌡️ High-temperature degradation topics include oxidation, liquid metal corrosion, and hot corrosion. 23:18 💰 Material degradation has significant economic consequences, with billions spent on corrosion prevention, making the study of degradation crucial. 34:19 💡 Degradation is defined as the loss of performance in an engineering system, encompassing factors like strength, efficiency, lifetime, and appearance. 45:51 🔄 Corrosion is a natural electrochemical process that involves the degradation of metals due to reactions with the environment. 47:58 ⚗️ Corrosion involves an electrochemical reaction, with zinc undergoing anodic and cathodic reactions when reacting with HCl. 53:00 🧪 Electrochemical reactions have four basic components: anode, cathode, ion movement in the electrolyte, and a conductor. 55:06 🔩 Corrosion factors include metallurgical, mechanical, thermodynamic, and electrochemical aspects.
