Way to be conscientious about the Lyell Canyon Permit. You went the extra mile!

Absolutely! I know how hard those permits are to get. Hopefully someone was able to make use of that one!

Love your video. What camera equipment did you use?

It was actually an iphone 12. The change I made for this trip versus previous trips was filming in 60 frames per second rather than 24 or 30. It really helped with the smoothness of the video. I also brought a very small tripod (Joby GripTight ONE Micro) that I used occasionally and was good for capturing some unique shots that I probably otherwise couldn't have gotten.

Hello! Thanks for the video. I'm curious... I scored a permit for Happy Isles to "Past Little Yosemite Valley" where I am required to camp past the half dome/JMT junction. I would like to camp as close to half dome as possible because I intend to ascend half dome in the morning then return to camp to gather my belongings and exit out of Happy Isles again. It seems that you might have camped (in this video) where I would like to camp. Or is there a closer place to camp that is closer to half dome nearer to the half dome/JMT junction?

There were a couple of smaller spots to camp closer to the Half Dome junction but I don’t think there is any water there. There were a few others camped here at the Clouds Rest Junction where there is a stream who were doing something similar to you. So there are some options.
I hope you have a great hike! Thanks for watching!

I’ve actually clicked on your page thinking, oh I haven’t seen any one do the John Muir trail as I was thinking of cycling it in a few weeks!….and then realised it’s the US. lol oh man! Advice for the day. Do not go on RUclips after a night shift! (What I mean is I was looking up the John Muir trail in Scotland) lol

I was gonna say "hey, no bikes here!" No bikes no cars no trucks atv's suv's or electric / peddled anything....just people feet, mule and horse feet and a bunch of alpacas. If the bears want to ride a bike, well who's to stop them. If you want to do the real thing I'll go with you. I'm 6 hours away.

Starting to watch your hike but if I can help with your videos, the filming is great but the sound levels not good for the viewer. The music volume is wayyy too high and also the sound when you get to rivers is crazy high as well, both were deafening. I could also hear a lot of wind noise which you can turn down when editing. The secret to music I’ve found is to have it high enough but that you can still hear your footsteps when your hiking and the sounds of birds and wilderness. I’ve been told many times early on from my viewers want to hear footsteps and nature so it’s important to have the volume levels right so not to take away from the beauty in the video. Just my humble opinion

Thanks for the feedback! Hopefully you’ll see improvement as you watch the series as I was more attentive to those details as I went on. If you make it through to any of the later videos I’d love to hear if you notice a difference, or perhaps I need to adjust those levels further going forward.
