Leucism is a animal condition in which there is partial loss of pigmentation resulting in white, pale, or patchy coloration of the skin, hair, feathers, scales or cuticle, but not the eyes. Albino animals lose all pigmentation and has pink eyes so that the best way to distinguish the two. Edit: It still really cute and cool to see one like it
He's leucistic, not albino. The disabilities that often come with albinism, like blindness, are usually what causes the rejection, as they struggle to feed. Leucistic is basically just blonde hair, blue eyes, light skin.
FYI albino pups aren't abandoned because they look different, they're abandoned because predators recognize them much easier and it's dangerous to raise them if they're the only pup in the litter. With huge seal creches like this, they're usually kept around their cousins and siblings.

That's because an albino showing up is incredibly rare and he didn't have the luxury of taking the picture elsewhere. It's unfortunately an natural part of a seels life that some will be crushed by the larger males and its often more than not an accident due to their large numbers and tendency to group together very tightly. Other reasons can include a large male aggressively attacking for a number of reasons. Rarely do they attempt to mate with female pups and crush them unintentionally due to the massive size discrepancy. .. Ultimately though when rare moments like these come by, they have to take them as they come and film/photograph the moment as it happens out in nature where you rarely have any control over your photo opportunity. 💁♂️

It's not Albino. It's Leucism. It's like Albinism, but it doesn't effect the eye pigmentation, and they typically end up with blue eyes.

First, not a "seal". Those are sea lions. Don't feel bad: NOAA got it wrong too. Second, the incidence rate of albinism is somewhere in the area of 1 in 20,000 (+/- 3,000 depending on the species). So in a South American sea lion colony (about 100,000 individuals), there should be on average five albinos per colony.
except that I'm sure they are more likely to be predated/maybe less successful hunters because of their reduced camoflage 😢

This is actually leucism. Albinism causes the red eyes but leucism does not

I have watched a lot of wildlife channels and I have never seen an albino seal that is so great and awesome to see thank you for sharing it with us I'm glad to see the other ones are accepting him
