If a Esxi host fails, the VMs are not vmotioned to another host. It will be restarted by HA on another host and the affected VMs will have downtime. Vmotion can be used only when both the Source and destination hosts are online along with Vcenter server.

Yup. Absolutely correct, I got the nomenclature wrong. Should have crossed out the VM, not the host, in the first instance.

At 1:55 (ruclips.net/video/5OaSemd8qAc/видео.html) Rory mentions that vMotion will move a virtual machine from a failed host. My understanding since VI3 (2005) is that for vMotion to work both the source and target hosts must be up and functional. HA (High Availability) is intended for situations where the source host has failed. DRS + vMotion is for predictive failure, e.g. host suffers from recoverable hardware errors and is put into maintenance mode by administrator, and HA is for reacting to host failure or unscheduled down time, e.g. unrecoverable hardware failure.

I am working on a new DR plan for facilities and operations and I am trying to tie it into the it system for a better understanding across all teams

Great short content about DR in a concise manner . I have a query those products can be spin up across multiple AZ's or Regions across the globe ? Any documentation supports the same ?

This is my first time to hear about SRM which will be the next subject to study in order to maintain stability in my DC

Thanks. I always thought fault tolerance is invoked when there is an issue with the host only. You state it can happen when there is an issue with the vm as well. Ha reboots if there is an issue with the host as well.
