    Asus has updated the warranty for their OLED gaming monitors to now include 2 years of panel burn-in coverage. This applies to the PG34WCDM, PG49WCD, PG27AQDM, PG48UQ, PG42UQ and upcoming models like the PG32UCDM.
    You'll see the change in the specification tab on Asus product page, so you can refer to that for warranty claims in the future

      @Jules-se4cx 5 месяцев назад +2

      2 year warranty for products is still pretty bad... there are companies that give 3 years warranty for "potential" burn-in (we all know that burn-in is the thing OLED has to deal with and burn-in will occur over time and the brightness will also lower over time)... After that, the monitor is a mess... Nobody will bother to install a new panel (but that would be the better option) and the thing ends up in the electronic waste dump...
      The step Asus has taken only shows that they definitely know the problem, but are too cowardly to give a decent warranty. And 2 years doesn't help anyone...
      "just buy new, we don't care about global resources"
      I used to like ASUS, but the last 3 years have only shown what a pile of sh** ASUS really is

    The warranty on my alienware monitor has lead to such a care free experience for me. Not that im trying to induce burn in or anything, in fact I use wallpaper engine and hide my icons and taskbar, but if I am doing productivity work for a few hours at a time im not worried about it. If I had a monitor without a burn in warranty it would certainly be something in the back of my mind while i was using the same application for productivity work for several hours. I do have a second IPS display on a dual monitor arm to go with my 34 inch ultrawide and anything really static I usually put over there but a lot of times I will run 3 applications across the 2 displays and switch between them.

    seems like a lot of people snagged one of the Alienware oled ultrawide displays in these comments. So did I, upgrading from a Dell IPS ultrawide that didnt go above 60hz.
    The curve on my old Dell was 3800r, which was actually perfect for productivity, but too little for gaming I found. The Alienware DWF is a lot closer to what I want from a gaming focused display, while also offering better colors, no IPS backlight glow, no washed out image in the corners, and also it doesn't cut away a few pixels on the side because of the bezel/polarizer like the recessed IPS pannel did. The OLED actually has a bunch of off pixels all around the sides for pixel shifting, and the lack of polarizer means the corners are crisp without anything getting hidden from certain angles.
    Overall QD-OLED really fits my needs perfectly as someone who mostly games with the blinds closed, in a country where the sun sets at 4pm half the year. Matte finishes do help a lot with fingerprints, glare and such, but I found it more distracting than anything while actually playing games.
    I'll most likely still use my IPS for productivity, but the QD-OLED will probably still see quite a few late night essays written on it. I'm pretty excited to see more competition in the OLED uw monitor space, since that's probably what allowed a bunch of people me included to get great deals on our monitors, but as someone who values color reproduction over absolute speed, QD-OLED still seems like the best bet for me right now. Not only does my computer not run most bames above 80fps, but 1000 nits peak brightness already strains my eyes after long gaming cessions. I really feel like instead of pursuing brightness and refresh rate, which LCD's are already kings at, OLED manufacturers should focus on improving their sub-pixel arrangement/text clarity as well as burn in, which are the main concerns of anyone I know who owns an OLED. If I wanted an eye searing 3000 nits 400hz pannel I'd buy an LCD ya know.

    • @wizardd
      @wizardd 6 месяцев назад

      higher brightness = better detail in hdr. contrast ratio carries oled, it really doesn't get bright enough. 1000 nits in a 3% window is fine but the fullscreen brightness kind of sucks a bit comparatively to miniled. it really does make a difference, as someone with kerataconus and bad light sensitivity i promise theres really not much of a difference in term of eye strain when you get used to it (at least for me.) it would be nice to see fullscreen window brightness 1.5x on qd oled, that would make me upgrade from my aw3423dwf

    Trying to find out why the LG 34GS95QE that uses the same panel only allows gsync range of 48-240 vs 40-240 on the Asus. I thought that was a limitation on the hardware not the firmware. Also makes me wonder if you can flash Asus FW on the LG for the OSD and extra features.

    I think there's nothing wrong with a less accurate mode that makes things brighter in HDR. In some usage conditions this can be really handy. The problem here is that the accurate mode actually achieves lower brightness levels than the inaccurate one that track PQ EOTF brighter. But in general you should also advocate for the inclusion of a "DTM" like setting on monitors. They cost almost or even more than TVs after all

    Does this monitor have issues with color banding like the PG27AQDM? Bought that display but in games, streamed content and even some of the built in desktop wallpapers, light rays or certain colors seem to suffer from color banding. Same content on a standard ips lcd seems to be far less noticeable or nonexistent.

    I hope we can see better burn-in protection for these products going forward. I'm still on the fence about an UW OLED, a 4k 32", or a higher refresh 1440p 27" to replace my current main monitor. The burn-in risk for daily use is just not worth it as it sits, as rtings found it occurred within just 700 hours.
    I also wish we'd get more mini-LED monitors that offer much of the same benefits as OLED but with superior text quality and no burn-in risk. I assume it's probably cost prohibitive in screens larger than 16" which is why we only started seeing them in laptops recently, but I'm hoping it gains some ground soon.
