I was always confused why you would say “no attack is a good thing”. I always thought the CP was related to the HP. This makes more sense. I’m not much for PVP but I’m a big Raid fan and it will be handy when clearing out my Pokémon.

I cant believe ive been making pokemon w/ higher attack IV vs the other two more of a priority😭😭 I saw somewhere a 0/15/15 was the best for pokemon but i was so confused.

Thanks!
Am I understanding this correctly? CP becomes a limiting factor in PVP and since ATK has a higher multiplier, investing in DEF and HP will allow you to reach a higher level without going over the CP cap?
I've been looking for a video just like this I kinda had an understanding of it all but now I have all the info I've been looking for. As always a great video straight to the point thank you.
Great video. I feel it will help people better understand why they might be getting overtaken in pvp. I must say however, using Azumarill as an example since its rank 1 is 0 15 15, I feel like it would be harder to find a 0 15 15 than it would a 15 15 15. I mean, I have about 20 or so various Hundos, I'm not sure that I've ever seen a 0 15 15, and if i have, i didnt pay much attention to it. I hate that they complicated this so much. It’s a slap in the face that high stats are the opposite of helpful for battling. It makes NO sense. Thanks for helping walk us through this ridiculous nonsense.
Doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. All my Pokémon are “bad” iv meaning all the Pokémon I chose for GBL were either maxed out or almost perfect IV Pokémon because I wasn’t aware of this. I have consistently hit Ace rank and was always under the impression that my teams/mons were solid af. Ignorance is bliss lol
Just had to jump into the chat to give a huge shouting THANK YOU! Finally some one explained all this AND gave me the tools needed to make this work more me. I understood this mechanic, but finally some one included the links and resources needed to run with this on my own.

What I wanna know is, is there any point waiting for that 99% vigoroth for example if if you have an 88% (much higher cp) already? Or in my case, I've got a medicham (89% and lucky) and 99.7 normal medicham that will require more than double the star dust. Is it worth?
I'm starting to see that max ivs are more for raids and PvE. PVP you need to really tweak. I've been fine tuning my great league team and actually run mons that have maxed defense or stamina IVs and also focus on very specific and unconventional movesets.
I finally understand, thanks bro I play a lot of PVP I’m going to take sometime and figure out which ones I should keep moving forward. Btw my GL team is charizard (shadow), snorlax(shadow) and crobat (shadow) 😅
since attack stats increase the CP twice more than Def and Sta does hence to make sure highest stats in lowest CP (due to CP cap i.e 1500 or 2500) its best to have least or 0 attack IV, so a pokemon with 0 att will (for eg.) level 30 and still under 1500 cp but other mon of same species will reach above 1500cp at level 25 just cuz it got higher attack stat(same def and sta for both mons)
Another year later jumping back into it, my question is how do you know which league you're going to select? I don't think he explains that (if you can pls)
I would like to know what ranking range is acceptable for a good performance in pvp, for example, only the above 100 are good or only the above 20 are good. Thanks!
Very useful video as always! I still cant figure out which filter should i choose for pokemon caught in the GBL CUP as a reward (usually for your third win out of the possible five). Is it the "wild catch" or the "raid/egg/research"? Cause if you change these two, without changing the ivs of your pokemon, the ranking in each league changes too. The stadiumgaming site for rank checking is a little different now compared to what you show in your video (November 2022). Thanks to whoever can help🙏.
I would suggest using an app like PokeGenie or Calcy IV to check the rankings instead as those tell you the exact level of your Pokémon alongside their PVP ranking as a percentage.
Another awesome video!! This all makes sense. But , how do we really know what pokemon to choose for battle. For Example , if we have an azumarill thats ranked 3 on pvpoke but the one we have has a terrible stat product ranked about 2000. On the other hand, we have a pokemon ranked 50 on pvpoke but it has a perfect rank of 1. Which will do better in the league? Should we be focusing on picking up hi ranked pokemon with terrible stats or using mediocre pokemon with perfect stats?
I’m so confused. Please help, if anyone can. Thanks in advance. If IV’s in PoGo are in ADDITION to their base stats, I can’t grasp how a 0/15/15 can possibly be “better” than a 15/15/15. It sounds like a handicap has been put in place? How can one reach higher CP, with a poor attack stat, which somehow then translates to a higher level and maximizing your Pokémon? It’s almost like saying, “hey, your attack stat is trash, here’s a few levels to help you out.” Uh... catch a better quality Pokémon and bring that to battle instead, yeah?
Thank you so much, Ive been pvping for 3years now and never understood why it was better to have no attack, now I get it, I think the way niantic handles IVs is a bit flawed but hey I guess if its the way than so be it!
One topic with adding to this then is PVP ranking based on both the stats here and movesets and why the rankings keep changing as Niantic adjusts and adds new movesets. Also, it would be interesting to see someone actually calculate what the PvP IV perfection actually means comparing a meta relevant Pokemon like say Lickitung at 100% vs say 90%, 80%, 50% etc. Sometimes we kill ourselves for perfect IVs when a delaying a switch for a second is the real issue more than a 100% vs 93% perfect 😂
Thank you for the content. I’m sorry if I sound like an airhead but are you saying that a Pokémon with a lower attack and higher defense and HP is better then say a Pokémon with a higher attack and lower defense and HP? I’m still newer to the game. In the beginning I was just deleting all Pokémon that were the lowest CP. Now I have learned to appraise them before I transfer them. So I’m learning the ropes slowly but surely. What app would you suggest for getting their exact IV percentages? I don’t want to install something untrusted, so figured I’d ask you first. Thanks again!

Hey no worries it's a confusing subject. But yes that is what I am saying *for pokemon used in PvP aka agaisnt other players* however note in master league/raids, where there is no cp limit to the pokemon you use, this rule doesn't apply and you want as close to perfect as you can for IV's!
3 года назад+2
I use pokegenie. It can quickly tell you iv percentages and even how good your PvP IV's are! But calcy iv works too! Those are the two best!
@ Thank you so much for your response! Okay so here’s a question for ya.... I’ve been searching and trying to figure this out.... I now use Go Stadium IV rank checker because that’s the one you showcased in your video. (thank you btw). Do you suggest to just change to the pokegenie one? Is it better? Here’s my dilemma with the go stadium IV checker. I just started playing Pokémon Go in February of this year (2021). I enjoy the game a lot and I’m starting to understand it a lot more than I did in the beginning. When I first started playing I only kept high CP Pokémon. I then found out about 1, 2 & 3 star Pokémon.... I then would delete all the 0 & 1 star Pokémon and only keep high 2 star or 3 star Pokémon. I then found out that having less then perfect IV’s was actually a good thing for PVP. So have been occasionally playing PVP for about 5-6 weeks now. However, I’m not sure what to mark the shadow Pokémon that I get either from Grunts or from battling leaders. They also don’t have an option for Go Battle League Pokémon? At first I was listing them as raid/research but if the IV’s are low they say not found. I just don’t want to be wrong when inputting the information. What should you mark the Pokémon from GBL? And then what about the shadow Pokémon that are t legendary Pokémon? So sorry for such a long comment. Your help is greatly appreciated. 😇
So, if I have two different Pokemon, let’s say a Stunfisk with 4400 stat product and a Talonflame with 3700, will that Stunfisk be better in PVP than that Talonflame? I can’t understand if the value of the stat product can also compare different Pokémon species.
I am confused by something. I know there are floors if you got a Pokemon from an egg or best friend trade, but some of my Pokemon are ranked terribly then I update to put the floors then it is amazing 99 percent. Is it actually just as good as any other 99 percent or is it just in the top percent of egg Pokemon? For example, if I had a Pokemon that ranks 90 wild catch but 99 if you put that it was from an egg is that better than a wild catch 98?
How big of a difference will any of the IV make tho? Im trying not to be too sweaty wtih this whole thing but also dont wanna throw dust on totally bad IV's.
My only criticism of this video is the weight IVs have in a match. Frequently a 100% IV pokemon will perform well in any league regardless of species. Having CMP is also a useful strategy, but I’m glad you kept this simple ;)
Thanks for the video! Very informative! Question: Does this apply to shadow Pokémons? For example: if a regular Muk has 0/15/15 iv is rank 1 for pvp. Does it mean a 0/15/15 shadow Muk is also rank 1.
Re Galvantula (and other Pokemon that max out near 2,500, e.g., Talonflame): While 15/15/15 is rank 1 at L50, this may not be the absolute best IV combo. In Galvantula's case, 13/15/15 maxes out at 2,500 at L51. It's a small difference (
Okay so i mostly didn't care / know about pvp ivs but now im starting to check ivs more often. I use an app called Calcy iv, can i use that instead of pokegenie to check where to use which mon? Like what league n stuff.
What is the difference between all the different types of Pokemon Go candies? I'm a bit confused about XL candy...isn't XL candy the same as Mega candy?
Alright two point: 1) At high level pvp is it better to look at the specific break points against specific common match-ups? I have seen this mentioned, and even thought the stat product might be lower it would perform better by way of just reaching an attack or barely surviving an attack. 2) For heavy quick attackers, like a shadow granbull could we situationally do 15/0/0 to max out pure damage rather than trying to live until we get to a charge move - I'm not sure if this is relevant.
Imagine CP Cap as a Jar HP and Def are Sand Atk are Pebbles The jar has max capacity (1500cp / 2600cp) The jar with sand is more filled than a jar filled with pebbles. Thus a pokemon with 1500 cap can pack more hp and def than if you mix in all 3 stats.
Thank you so very much for the video. Literally throwing stuff because keep getting annihilated in battles because the Pokemon are average. Don't know how many were transferred that after watching your video were choice ones to keep. This bites monkey balls.

Which one is better, the one with closest cp to Max cup or the 1450 one with better iv ?
How big of a difference will any of the IV make tho? Im trying not to be too sweaty wtih this whole thing but also dont wanna throw dust on totally bad IV's.
My only criticism of this video is the weight IVs have in a match. Frequently a 100% IV pokemon will perform well in any league regardless of species. Having CMP is also a useful strategy, but I’m glad you kept this simple ;)
What is a CMP ? Snd how is it useful?
Charge Move Priority...The pokemon with the higher attack will get "CMP" *priority and will be able to throw its charge move first
Mind Blowing
Wow...man thnxxx
Never knew this. ive been powering up 3 star stuff since the summer lol
Thanks for the video! Very informative! Question: Does this apply to shadow Pokémons? For example: if a regular Muk has 0/15/15 iv is rank 1 for pvp. Does it mean a 0/15/15 shadow Muk is also rank 1.
Yes, the ranks are the same for shadow pokémon because they have the same base stats.
Re Galvantula (and other Pokemon that max out near 2,500, e.g., Talonflame): While 15/15/15 is rank 1 at L50, this may not be the absolute best IV combo. In Galvantula's case, 13/15/15 maxes out at 2,500 at L51. It's a small difference (
me with a hundo galvantula: ;(
Any difference if you catch the Pokemon in the wild or if you got it by trade ?
Could you explain the effect of the best buddy cp cap on level and pvp? Thanks and keep up the great stuff!
Alright two point:
1) At high level pvp is it better to look at the specific break points against specific common match-ups? I have seen this mentioned, and even thought the stat product might be lower it would perform better by way of just reaching an attack or barely surviving an attack.
2) For heavy quick attackers, like a shadow granbull could we situationally do 15/0/0 to max out pure damage rather than trying to live until we get to a charge move - I'm not sure if this is relevant.
relevant for sure. attack weighted ivs are better for high damage fast moves
5:11 That scared me !
Thought it was just me
So I want higher attack for raids, but less attack for PVP?
yea
U want less attack for ultra and great league but for master league u want the highestvivs
Imagine CP Cap as a Jar
HP and Def are Sand
Atk are Pebbles
The jar has max capacity (1500cp / 2600cp)
The jar with sand is more filled than a jar filled with pebbles.
Thus a pokemon with 1500 cap can pack more hp and def than if you mix in all 3 stats.
@@GrandMaMaYT damn that was a rlly good explanation
@@AK.akkk. for real i now actually understand how it works now just from reading that lol
Welp, that completely knocks of my current strategy 😂
which pokemon is worth iv hunting for, and is useful in pvp to have?
Mind blown 🤯
for shadow pokémon are you supposed to use shadow legendary or is it just wild
Why is this game so confusing? I feel like this is totally dumb. Very helpful video by the way
Dose the best buddy boost make a big difference in master league?
What's the higher attack you will ever find?
I still have a question??>>>>> who would win a CNP TIE......15/15/15 or a higher ranked 0/15/15 ????
please helppppp!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so very much for the video. Literally throwing stuff because keep getting annihilated in battles because the Pokemon are average. Don't know how many were transferred that after watching your video were choice ones to keep. This bites monkey balls.
