Just finished watching your video again after a couple years. The photos are superb. The flowers show an incredible softness. They have amazing texture and color. I surely do agree that the Portraits are great as well. Great video!

Great video. Love the 16mm shots. I’ve owned the 80mm for about a year. I only use the focus ring in the studio. When I’m out in nature I set the camera to manual focus, turn on focus peaking, turn shutters focus off, back button focus to get close, then rock back on forth until your subject is in focus. I set the focus peak to blue because nature has so many reds, yellows oranges and greens.

I did own one.. was a gift.. used it for few months and traded with 10-24.. i guess i made a mistake.. XF80 is superbly sharp and colour rendering is amazing. Take care with jerks.. when not used it unlocks lens couple.. :) nice vid..

Haha...I know the feeling...the moment you get rid of a lens you find all sorts of reasons why you need it back :) I still want to try the 10-24 myself. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Really happy to come across your video, Sir. I don't know much about this lens, but should get it today from Fed Ex. Taking Portraits is a huge plus! This video displays what I wanted to see in the photos. Just learning about Fuji for about a year, and this to me is a fascinating lens. Thanks for an excellent video and excellent music. Love all the photos!!!

For me, the macro lens enabled me to look at the world differently, and therefore open up a whole new world of photographic opportunities and see a whole new perspective denied to me previously

Great video. You have a brilliant color there.

Many compliments for your family and video! There are no chanches to focalize in auto for macro photography. Do not turn! You fix a focus and get it to approache to the subject with focus peacking and you have to use a flash and a diffuser

Hope you remembered to lock the door on the way out. Like the colours of 16mm shots. Good choice of music as well. Sometimes I will skip videos because of annoying music. Good job.

I would own the 60mm "macro" but would love the 80mm (a decision based on price) and don't get me wrong still love the 60mm ... prob my most used lens
A tip I picked up, sorry can't remember where, is (when in manual focus mode) to hit the AF-L (Autofocus-lock) button on the back, it will quickly (in relative terms) bring the focus in to something in the view, from there it's normally just a small twist away from where you want to be to get the exact part of the subject in focus that you're after
    Good work, thanks

Hey @Paul Rampant - WOW - that's a GREAT tip. I knew there must be an easier way and this may be it. Thank you for sharing it - I can't wait to try that out. Thanks also for watching!

Hello, shooting macro i handhold my camera, focus manual and go forward an backward a little with the camera to get the focus. Focuspeaking turned on (red/high) somtimes i use a little fill in flash difussed. I never use a tripod.
    Kind regards.

You should definitely do more macro. I think you will enjoy it... water droplets are especially fun :)
I know you chose Fuji on purpose based on a previous video of yours I have watched (I watch all of them). I did too (switched from Canon EOS M system). But if you are looking for a compact, ridiculously lightweight, affordable and respectable macro system, I strongly recommend picking up a used Canon EOS M50 and their award-winning yet grossly underrated EFM 28mm F3.5 macro. It is the smallest lens ever built that can autofocus from infinity to 1:1 magnification in milliseconds. It can even get to 1:1.2 magnification in a super-macro mode. With it's fairly normal field of view, I found it to be the perfect walkaround lens when visiting museums or gardens. You could be shooting portraits or landscapes one second and proper macro of textures, flowers or bugs the next. The f 3.5 is not stunning for portraits but I would argue that in those settings, there is really no need to be obliterating the background - better to let the background tell a story of place for the person being photographed. I am honestly planning to buy a used M50 plus this lens new again as both come in considerably less than the Fuji 80mm macro. I'll keep Fuji as my main system but I simply cannot find a better compact APSC macro solution than this EOSM combo. Think about it and watch a few videos on the lens - I think you will find it intriguing. Always enjoy your videos... hope your wife lets you keep buying gear :)

Thanks, @Anthony Sanni - Good idea regarding the M50...I just took a look at used prices and it is quite inexpensive. I'll check out some reviews of that EFM28mm to get a better sense of what it's like. Thanks for the suggestion! And thanks for watching! (Yes, hopefully more gear on the way!)

nice images, is this lens as slow to focus as Im told, Id like to use it for people shots, still not sure

    • @lifethroughalens9878
      @lifethroughalens9878  4 года назад

It is slow...I had more "misses" than usual. I guess the benefit of digital is we can take hundreds of photos, making the "misses" a little less relevant, but it definitely isn't the fastest focusing lens. On the flips side, when you nail focus the pictures are tack sharp. I want to compare it to the 90mm for portraits, but of course with 90mm you lose the ability to do macro. Perhaps try rent the lens for a few days to see your experience...often money well spent.
