    I got this the other night, and had a first pour. It's remarkable how people's palates are different. It was love at first sip for me. Rich leather, caramel, honey, and spice notes. Absolute hitter.

    Have had the 14 and 15 year Calumet. Probably liked the 15 the best. Am presently searching for the 16 year. The Bourbon Junkies said the 16 was a must have.

    I think it's a fantastic price at $150. Just think of the price we would all be willing to pay for anything from Buffalo trace at that age.

    I had the same experience on the C16; neck pour was underwhelming but after letting it open for 2-3 weeks it’s delicious! I enjoy it over the C14 & C15 but I also like oaky/funky profiles. Curiosity Public’s review of the C16 is pretty on point for me. Cheers 🥃

    Good review! I picked one up in early 2023 and it’s hot, spicy, and not that good. After a few pours and 10 months mines not that much better.

    Barton mashbill is 74 corn, 18 rye, 8 malted barley. Calumet 14 has a great amazing beginning but a completely off putting moldy dirt note in the middle. Calumet 15 is almost amazing to start but follows through with an equally amazing cherry bomb without being medicinal. If it's that vanilla the Calumet 16 sounds like it's going to oaky. At 17 that juice is gonna be past prime. I'm seeing Calumet 15 now down around $110. That's the one I'd buy.

    Here in the peoples Republic of taxachusetts we have both the 14 and 15 year for $130 & $150 respectively was looking at both of them for 2 weeks now unless something changes I think its a pass now . so thanks

    I think this is a great bottle to gift someone for a special occasion. I have a hard time spending that much on any bottle that I plan on drinking, but given the overwhelmingly-popular opinion of it being a hitter, it’s one that I would love to gift someone or receive myself

    • @bourbonkingdom
      @bourbonkingdom  2 года назад +1

      I see what you are saying with that Remus but I think that Remus would blow it out of the water. But we plan on doing a bourbon battle with that and Sam Houston again.

This Calumet 16 could be the best of those 2 bourbons. I ordered one @ $140, should be here Friday so keeping my fingers crossed!

    Is Sam Houston and Calumet from the same distillery?

    • @gregs7375
      @gregs7375 2 года назад +1

      Yes they come from the same NDP sourced from Barton. The Sam Houston’s are micro batches (2-3 barrels) while the Calumet’s are small batches (19 barrels). To my knowledge Sam Houston is done (no new releases) as they are saving barrels for future Calumet releases.

    I’m a fan but of Barton, so I was eager to try the 14 and 15 year; I was really happy with them both! The price point makes pulling the trigger on the 16 a bit tough, but we’ll see how this is after it opens up.

    I have a bottle of the small batch that is a blend of the 8 & 14 year. It's a solid pour, but for the price I paid ($80) I wouldn't buy it again. For that reason I have shyed away from trying any of the 14, 15, & 16 yrs. I just can't see myself spending twice as much for them.

    I saw it today but I gave up on spending $120 or more for bourbon nowadays. After tasting SOOO many bottles now, I now stick to the everyday drinks like Rare Breed, Makers cask strength, Russell’s 10 and so on. Chasing bourbon 🥃 is getting way too expensive now. Try tequila blanco my friends 👌🏼. You won’t be disappointed AND half the price or less than that. Cheers 🥂

      I can look at Old Forester, Buffalo Trace and Heaven hill just to name a few that has raised the price on most if not all allocation and the secondary market just bumps it up to continue to make profit. Also and this is our opinion but when you look at the number of people that watch videos and read reviews about whiskey it is a very small percent of the entire population of whiskey drinkers. I do agree like some brands like Whistle Pig for example try to price out the secondary of course. But the amount of brands that do that is very small and is actually harder then you think to do.

    • @blakeanderson1214
      @blakeanderson1214 2 года назад

      @@bourbonkingdom u make some fair points. Counterpoint, those distilleries u just mentioned do it because they are smart. They keep the low prices because in marketing terms it then makes them “unicorns”. It brings a cache to the name. I mean be honest, weller used to be a mixer. Old forester used to just sit on the shelve. And I know for a fact, as you do too, the distillery is looking to reviewers and influencers just as much as the consumer to see what the market can bare. Imho
