Great trio. The whole album is wonderful. I always, ALWAYS have a copy of this album. If I was stuck on an island with food and a way to play recorded music this would definitely be one of the ten albums I'd have with me.
An artist creates something and knows what went into it, more or less, artistically and technically. But the observer appreciates the "art" not necessarily for what went into it but how it appeals over-all personally. I have no clue, but this was done during a time when experimentation was happening, maybe with the aid of various psychotropic materials making it easy to say it was an experiment more than a planned thing that went according to plan. Check out Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" which many regard as "THE" jazz album. It's very simple. Miles' lines are VERY simple - but on that recording, it creates something very special. Same with "Timeless." In short, I love it! ENJOY!
Thank you for posting this. "Timeless" was a HS graduation present from a teacher i had in '75. Always thankful for the gift. This is the song i heard on the local Jazz station yesterday. Happy until the DJ mentioned John had passed away the day before. RIP, John Abercrombie..
Written by John for his good friend Ralph Towner, who he played and recorded with on many occasions after this early ECM treasure. Ralph's own acoustic versions of this song are also amazing (no surprise).
I bought this record on a beautiful October day in 1975. It's as wonderful today as it was then. Awesome trio.
It's truly magic sometimes, like on this whole album: John and Jan complement each other so masterly.
A sublime album-I first heard at 13 when it came out and was transformed.

Beautiful record, interesting John said it's not one of his favorites. But Jan Hammer sounds so amazing throughout.

Will have to check it out. Thanks.
Definitely a classic album - one of those top 25 to be stuck on an island with.
I played the hell out of this when I was moving to San Francisco, October 1975.
It was my morning anthem......and beyond.

You had a very cool High School teacher.

This swings deliciously.
I can imagine cruising around San Francisco in a mustang, Steve McQueen style, with this on. :-)
