Graceful and elegant song with an upbeat Crescendo that carries throughout.

This was a really beautiful and powerful song. It’s such a horrible illness that robs people of the ones they love long before their hearts stop beating. I think the song captures the feel of watching someone you love go through it. Sad, haunting and poignant. Thanks for this fantastic request Eric, and for your thoughtful reaction Harri.

    Loosely translated :
    The Light
If i haven't found the light in your eyes
It's because your heart's gone, your lungs, a river
In the castle of secrets, you are the least old
You know such secrets, you say them so you don't forget them
    chorus
To forget your children, and your children's children
To forget your first name and the way home
The precious of your past, your joys, your anger
    You can't remember it
It's the wind that's keep you quiet
If the wind has detroyed in your eyes the rest of the light
We can find, each other, warm under the ground
And forget your children, and your children's children
To forget your first name and the way home

From her new album you might like one of her `movie + song` combos, (there are 4 of these, one for each season) To my mind the best is ¨ film L'Hiver ¨. Somewhat difficult for your podcast since it lasts close to ten minutes! But it is brilliant in the emotions it evokes. Pomme is an extremely rare talent to my mind. Never seen or heard anything like her before and that goes back to Joan Baez`s first albums, and Joni Mitchell and Janice Joplin and all that era. Curiously enough, while most of her songs are somewhat wistful (to say the least) Pomme herself, in all interviews I`ve seen of her, is bright, eloquent and full of laughs and good humour.

You know that she has been a folk fan and a fan of Joan Baez in particular since her teenage years, right?
She was attracted to play autoharp when she discovered Appalachian folk singers playing it.

@@ericsicard910 She has mentioned it in quite a few of her interviews (I've searched all the ones on utube, or at least I think so!) In a very old one (relative to Pomme's career) she sings a bit of one of the first songs she recalls writing when she started out, It was in English and really sounded like typical U.S. country music.. The funniest part of that clip is when she explains that she felt she could compose English pop songs because they mostly don't say anything too profound or complicated, while writing French songs intimidated her because she knew that the audience would be more exacting on the "meaning" within her lyrics! (She didn't mean it as a put-down of American pop, she actually is very into it, but only to explain why she started writing in English initially)

Let me introduce you to Pomme.
Her real name is Claire Pommet and her stage name is Pomme which means Apple in french.
She will be soon 28 yo, from Lyon in France, and is multi-talented :
    - amazing voice: she often exposes her beautiful lower range but there are songs where she exposes amazing upper range : check her duet with Aurora where she harmonizes on top of Aurora in the second chorus ,
    - great instrumentalist: she plays guitar, autoharp, piano, cello, vocoder, banjo, synthetizer, …),
    - she composes and writes almost all of her songs.
    - She is also an actress (lead role in the movie "La Vénus d’Argent" released in November 2023) and
    - She is a writer ( she wrote a book for the youth titled "Sous les paupières").
She erupted on the french musical scene about 9 years ago, with some covers and duets on YT, when she was 18 yo .
Then late 2017 she had her first stage performance in Paris and she released her first Album "A peu près".
She wrote 2 songs on this first album.
But since then, she has composed/written ALL songs from their next 3 albums: the second album "Les Failles", released in 2019, the 3rd called "Consolation" released in august 2022 and a recent one in 2024 titled "Saisons".
She is famous in France: she has won the Best Newcomer Album award in Les Victoires de la musique 2020 (France music award ceremony) and she has won the Best Female Artist award in the 2021 edition.
She starts to be recognized on the international scene as well:
    - Aurora is a fan of her (Pomme also is a fan of Aurora since 2015) and Pomme was the first featuring on an Aurora album (wonderful duet called "Everything matters" ruclips.net/video/yX8bYwl9rKc/видео.html ) , they started a nice friendship, we can expect some additional collab in the future.
    - Billie Eilish also stated she is a fan and subscribed to Pomme’s channel: she recently said in an interview that she met Pomme during her first trip to France when she was only 15yo. She had an artistic (only?) crush and they have stayed in touch since then. Of course, Pomme is also a fan of Billie and made a very beautiful french cover of Bad Guy with an autoharp.
    - She is also highly praised by Julia and Angus Stone or Asaf Avidan that picked her for the opening of their concerts in France in 2018 . Julia invited her later to cover her hit Big Jet Plane with her autoharp on the album Songs for Australia (record from many artists to fund the battle against fires in Australia) and Julia , when she decided to sing a song in french, also asked Pomme to write the lyrics of a french translation of her hit Dance. They performed recently several duets together.
Pomme plays autoharp since she is 14 yo, she explained she discovered this instrument as an absolute fan of the folk and country music ( fan of Joan Baez, Dolly Parton, ...)
She defines her music as Authentic, Acoustic and Sad. She said there is always hope in her songs however.
For some of her songs, hope is visible at the surface and some others, you have to dig down.
Her songs relate to the Nature and the environment, to her own story and family, to different social issues (eg La lumiere is a song on Alzheimer's disease) and also her experience as a young lesbian girl.
She said she is transforming her dreams and nightmares into songs or visuals for her videos.
Her lyrics are poetic, she loves to leave room for personal interpretation and reinterpretation.
This is something she discussed with Aurora recently in a live stream and they were both in the same direction here (as for many other things BTW). You can check this incredible conversation (in english, after the first couple minutes from Pomme in french): ruclips.net/video/mOQWFUkXrM0/видео.html.

    Short explanation then english translation:
The song is about a woman suffering Alzheimer disease and losing her memory.
This is based on Pomme’s experience with her beloved grandmother.
English translation of the lyrics written by Pomme:
    THE LIGHT
    ------
    If I did not find
    The light in your eyes
It's that your heart has given up
    Your lungs, a river
    In the castle of secrets
    You are the youngest
You know some of the secrets
You say them so you don’t forget
    [Chorus]
    Forget your children
And the children of your children
    Forget your name
    And the way home
The precious pieces of your past
    Of your joys, your rages
    You cannot remember them
It's the wind that always shuts you up
If the wind has destroyed, in your eyes
    The rest of the light
We can both find each other
At least in the heat beneath the earth
    [Chorus] x2
    Forget your children
And the children of your children
    Forget your name
    And the way home

"Thank you, public" was a kind of ironic as Pomme and her band recorded this in her hometown (Lyon) during Covid pandemic and there were no audience in front of her.
