What a sweet man and generous neighbor! The land is lovely, the forest is fresh, the path through it is inviting and you're all making it better with the ecological work you're doing. Thanks for sharing this life you're making. I think of you all every morning as I tour my garden....very early in the day.
This is what makes the world a beautiful place or a living hell. It all comes down to how we act as individuals and the kindness (or lack thereof) we give to the world around us. If you are reading this please know that we all have good and bad in us and we all go through hard times whatever it is you are facing you can get through it and find the peace that this old man just showed us.
What a lovely donation, to lead to a waterfall. What a lovely example of mankind that man in the interview is. Well done you lot, it's quickly becoming a fine place to live. Enjoy ❤
Well done guys! :) I loved the part where your neighbour, "Tonecas" is talking. I hope you will have a chance to interview other locals too. Keep collecting the stories of the land, documenting local knowledge and history, and carrying on with some of the traditional practices.
I cant tell you the amount of joy it brings me to watch the interviews you do with your neighbours. I have the biggest smile and sense of connection to my home land, especially with living on the other side of the world since I left Portugal as a young one.
The conversation with Toneca is so amazing to watch. seeing people who are knowledgeable and passionate about the places they are from makes me emotional. He loves you guys for caring about the land he loves, not hates you for intruding. It's really beautiful to see!!
Really great what you do there! My big respect for that. Keep it up. Your neighbour directly got to my heart, just fullfilling to see people like you and him living with and next to each other in such a respectful and heart-warming way. A pleasure to see
Best episode of the new season by far, with two gems of humans in your Hungarian chef and Tonecas the neighbor, both brimming with such positivity. Hard not to be impressed by their joie de vivre and generosity.
Such a beautiful neighbor. His philosophy is pure and simple and something we all can learn from. Be kind, be good and get along with those whom have different views and lifestyles. Give that gentleman a big hug from us all. Strong work everyone!!
I had tears in my eyes from the interview with the neighbour. You could feel the joy when he talked about the great lunch they had when they finished the lagoon. Such a simple thing, utterly insignificant in a global sense but an accomplishment and a cherished memory for those involved.
Such a profound encounter you had with Tonecas, a special human being. I ‘d love that all human kind could act and talk the way he does. The world would be so different. Thanks for sharing
Keeping animals would save you some work on the property - goats for example - are great for keeping down bushes/grass/small trees. Think of them as autonomous lawnmowers that also give you free fertiliser for your vegetables. Chickens give you eggs/fertiliser/meat and are very good at eating garden pests and leftovers. Horses keep your grass short and will work for you pulling carts if trained properly. Plenty of benefits with animals.
Agreed. You could also use goat milk, make some yoghurts and so. Id also reccomend ducks for eggs and controling pests. (: I would say, keeping some animals on your property and using their products is the way to go! (:
@@mischawolf7727 Goats and chickens seem good. I heard that ducks are pretty noisy/messy, are difficult to warm up to people compared to chickens and are a lot more work than chickens, do you raise them? I watched a couple homestead farm channels that have negative opinions of them and was wondering your opinion of them.
Thats a great advice mate, It reminded me permaculture in the fact that you can actually get profit of a whole Life cicle like the the goats un this case
Senhore Tonecas brought tears to my eyes 😥. He exemplifies the Portuguese spirit that is my heritage. I'm in the USA (Rhode Island) but was born in a tiny village nestled between two mountains in the Leiria district. I love that you love my country and are working so hard to reclaim this abandoned property. Thank you from my heart! ❤🇵🇹
This was my favorite episode so far. The loving kindness shown by neighbors being generous and freely helping each other is the example we all need in this life. Tonecas is a beautiful man.
IDEA: You can use the 2 lakes of water to store electricity, I explain, one lake is above the other (with more height than the other) the water of the lake below rises with electricity (water pump), and then when you need electricity you connect the two lakes with a pipe, in the middle you have to put a turbine that when the water goes down it spins and produces energy. This method of storing energy is becoming more and more popular, for example, in 2023 the construction of the largest 'battery' in the world will begin in Spain using this method. Thanks to this you will not have to use batteries that have a high price and sometimes they are damaged, as there will be more and more people you will need more batteries, and it will surely cause more problems.
I love what your doing and especially moments like these when you connect with the local people around you- Your neighbour is a legend! Another interesting focus might be to study the local wildlife, and report back what you find… please keep up the amazing work :)
This was a purely delightful episode. I really like your new cook, and I have to ask.......was I the ONLY one with happy tears in my eyes, listening to your wonderful and kind neighbor? It really warmed my heart.
Lovely 23 minutes of peace. Your chef and kitchen is so organised. The food looks amazing. Its great to see your neighbours and to hear their feelings about who you are and what you are doing. Tonecas is a good man, I wish him health and long life.

Hi! Love the cooking that’s happening at PK! Here, that type of pea are called Snow Peas. Snap peas are a little different, thicker pods, rounder peas. Like Snow Peas, Snap Peas are also fully edible, unlike English peas, which need to be shelled, and only the inner peas are eaten. 💚

Well, a video opened by Rita is a beautiful day!! That waterfall is wonderful! I'm so happy for you all. Sr. Tonecas is a true gentleman! Rita is so beautiful and a wonderful soul! She's my favorite!
I adore the interviews with the older neighbors. They nearly bring me to tears with the stories of the past and their instant acceptance of your project. So much love on your land.
how lucky you are to have a neighbor like Tonecas, if it in my place the owner probably put a high perimeter fence already on that property, i see a humble, simple and honest man with Tonecas, if not that much to ask pls. help Tonecas also clean some of their spaces as a token of friendship since they might be already having trouble cleaning their places due to old age...thanks and keep safe everyone - long live Project Kamp ^_^

Absolutely wonderful man and a great neighbour to have He seems so happy that you are the new caretakers of the land....lots of hard work done and more to do. Impressive achievements so far...
What a beautiful moment, when Tonecas describes his joy seeing you care for and improve the land. This interview is honestly one of the best things I've seen on RUclips in some time. Cheers Project Kamp
I haven't even started the video yet, but I just want to say thanks. It was your 1 year recap video that I first learned about you folks, and since then I've gone down the rabbit hole. I've learned about One Army and all the projects there. I've dove DEEP into precious plastics, soo much so that for the first time *in my life* I felt this INTENSE passion brewing inside me while I researched. I'm bipolar, and I leaned into mania while furiously reading and researching it all. I'm *going* to start up a facility. Maybe not right away, as I have some health issues that need to be addressed, and will take time to do so, but once I'm done with recovery starting up is my next plan. I've already reached out to a buddy of mine who's a recently disabled chemical engineer due to an accident and he seemed very much onboard. I'm soo excited to get this started, in the meantime I'm trying to network and lay the ground work for everything to go as smoothly as possible. Hoping for some big impact, as my location is pretty amazing for this type of thing I feel. AHH soo excited. Thank you for being who you are, and helping to influence the world to change for the better! edit: as a non vegan, that vegan food looked AMAZING.
I'd like to know how you are organising yourself - do you have daily or weekly meetings to discuss your current plans and situation? Is there any form of hierarchy or are you all talking as equals? If you have to make descisions there, do they have to be unanimous?
When I saw the stone/brick walls around the waterfall, my mind couldn't help but go to "alternate history" channels which I watch just for fun. One thing they talk about are structures that are hundreds or thousands of years old that no one today knows how they got there. When Tonecas said that his family went back on the land over a hundred years, and his great-grandparents said the stuff was older than they could know, it just blew my mind. Same when he was talking about the former village on the site. So much history is still getting lost. Makes me think of the hundreds of abandoned villages in Italy.
I was watching a recent Geoff Lawton video where he mentioned that having fish in the bodies of water on the land helps keep mosquitos under control, as well as enriching the local ecosystem. You might consider small fish or other pond life native to your region for the pond and swamp, if you can get them.
I loved your neighbor Tonecas and his simplicity! He is so typical of the people of that region... they do things for others just because they like them and love to fellowship and have good, hard-working people around, who appreciate and improve the land they love
Grande Homem ;)
Project Kamp, thanks for showing me the perks and beauty of my own country. This is priceless. That speech from sir Tonecas is heart warming, that happiness is something that really says you are doing the right thing. Keep it up!
This is awesome! Thanks for the video. Mr Tonecas has a great attitude and having such a neighbour is a real treasure! The same counts of you for him - which he clearly expressed. :D
LOVE the neighbor! And I love that the older people around you all respect you. They know what hard work is and they know hard workers when they see them. They know what decency is and recognize that in you. Well done.
Great vid guys. Really hope you stick around for years to come. Fantastic to see all the neighbour's so welcoming n accommodating for the project. Must be special for them to see a bunch of young ppl trying to revitalise the area
OMG, Tonecas is a gem, I love him!! How sweet are our Portuguese men? A lot. I was just in Tábua, had I known u guys were so close I wiuld have visited! Thanks Rita, you guys are in heaven. Love 😍 fm Santarém
Tonecas seems like a really great guy. All the interviews you do with your neighbors are really lovely, and it’s great to hear how they’re perceiving the project and your influence on the land and the environment around it.
Having some goats on the land would do wonders to control that forest! Rotationally grazing goats would be such a powerful tool to repair the landscape, you protect the trees you want and the goats can eat the rest. I have been rotating some chickens and even after just one year the effect is very clear, I even have some spots with grass up to my shoulders. Do you have any plans to implement animals in the project?
Great video, really! Still missing the season 1 intro though. “So we bought this big peace of land and are prototyping are more sustainable way of living. Not sure how it’s gonna go, but let’s see.” 🎵Na na naaa naaa na na na naaa, naaa naaa na na na naaa 🎵
This has brought tears to my eyes! The interview with Tonecas was beautiful and has made me even more determined to learn Portuguese so I can really converse with our neighbours ❤️ and so interesting to hear your thoughts on eating vegan. Thanks for sharing xox
To create diversity for your nutrition, I can suggest bulgur salad (called "kısır" in the local language) or bulgur balls from Anatolian cuisine (Turkish/Kurdish) which are also vegan and very delicious :)
Excellent video -- beautiful marriage of the old vlog style and the new polished style! Thanks so much for listening to our feedback and for continuing to add your own flavors
what i really want to know: what about wind- and hydropower on your land? what about waste water treatment with a constructed wetland? what about biogas for cooking?
You are blessed to have such a kind neighbor. The conversation with him touched my heart and brought tears. His willingness to share part of his land, who does this anymore. To me, this is what neighbors do. Work together and help each when they can, I love it! ❤
Loved this episode! Good people, great to meet the neighbor and cook. Wonderful to see the progress and cleanup of access to the waterfall. Can't wait to see the next episode. Cheers!
Everyones hard work, high spirits, love and respect for each other and the land is very evident! It brings me joy and hope watching your videos that this will become more common globally.
I've seen some youtubers use waterfalls to generate electricity, It seems this waterfall is too small for that, but would that be something you would consider to generate electricity?
Yeah, while I have no doubt that Tonecas would likely allow them to, I doubt they'd be comfortable doing so since it isn't their land. I believe it was last weeks, or maybe the weeks before, I left a comment suggesting they create a liquid battery. Essentially you have an upper and lower reservoir connected by a turbine engine and reversible pump. The lower one (likely their pond) would pump the water up to the higher reservoir when they aren't using the power, or using "excess" power, then when they need extra power for say a big day project or something, they release the water from the top down into the bottom reservoir, through the turbine creating more power. They're typically quite efficient and can come with all kinds of added benefits. you could even have "runoff" from the top reservoir be used for a bunch of things like drip irrigation systems for the gardens, could maybe run a waterwheel to grind flour, there's lots of benefits to having them. The important part is having the two reservoirs separated by a big height difference while not being too far away horizontally. looking at the 3d map they did with the drones, I think they have one or two spots they could pull it off pretty well.
@@sandwichmatt8339 yes but they make a deal for the water. Didn't cost them much. They will improve the water situation, as they grow. They have to be careful with money
Awesome episode !!! Your group is very close to my heart in my later years. I had/have the same goals and share the love for the land that your rosy cheeked old neighbor.Tell the chef that her cooking skills had me drooling. I am a kitchen person too. Mine has every thing you can imagine... now I have to work at moving it on.The old fella had me in tears !!
Q&A: Why don't you keep some animals on the land, like chickens? In that way you can ensure that they are kept in a natural way and live togheter with them in a symbiotic way (eggs, fertilizer, land grazing, foodwaste source...) I understand the vegan lifestyle, but isn't the main focus here to live sustainable + biofriendly?
@@Amber4 But why? Veganism is all about animal-, environment-, and self-related motives. Here on their lovely piece of land they can ensure those 3 things so that discards the current, society-shaped definition of veganism.
I think you’re doing just fine with going mostly vegan as it’s always preferable not to kill another creature and eat it. It’s definitely possible to be vegan without any exotic food that has to be shipped from overseas. We’re living in Spain and eat local (vegan and super tasty) food. And some eggs don’t hurt as long as the chickens are free roaming and happy.
If you raise poultry as a vegan you can also cook the eggs and feed the chickens with it, so they wont rot and the chickens regain part of the nutrients they lost while producing such eggs.
I've been a vegetarian for two decades, but I'll never give up eggs and honey. When integrated into permaculture I'm comfortable with the life of a honeybee or chicken
I like the Flexitarian approach. You'd go for a more Vegan diet but prioritise local produce instead of industrially prepared foods, and you'd be accepting any animal products that you'd get from neighbours. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
so long as you maintain the fact that the produce is local and sustainable, it would be better for both yourselves and your surroundings to have animal products in your diet. The problem with most meat and animal products is the way in which it is harvested, so as long as you can guarantee its sustainability and also ensure that the environment in which the animals are kept in is of high quality, then you are being most beneficial for your selves, and the planet
Hi. We love the project and the people working within or living around. Keep up the good work - it's really inspiring. We are also very pleased how you listened to the community on RUclips and made some changes on the concept of the video. They are now super good ;-)
The best Part of this Video was the Interview with the Old Man. The other Parts are not my Favorite Ones. My Question: Are there a Book about this Region or other Old People they could tell us more about the Land. How are the Changes in the last 500 Years. Who are oldest living People in your Region?
Great video guys, really liked the videpgraphy, the flow, and meeting new members. It felt like watching a high end documentary. And what a great neighbour, all about seeing the countryside come back to life.
This is my favorite episode so far. I enjoy learning about the large projects, but it is great to learn more about the people in the camp and the day-to-day happenings in the community. It's so different from my urban lifestyle, and I find it fascinating.
If you love the neighbour as much as we do. Have a look in this video were we interview 3 of them!

Grande Homem ;)
That's a lovely neighbour you have there! The progress is great and it has really become a wonderful little community.
So beautiful esspecially the connection with amazing neighbour whose generosity is wholesome ❤
Project Kamp, thanks for showing me the perks and beauty of my own country. This is priceless.
That speech from sir Tonecas is heart warming, that happiness is something that really says you are doing the right thing.
Keep it up!
Nem sempre é assim... mas isto é Portugal no seu melhor!
Melhor video até agora!
Parabéns
Abraço ao Senhor Tonecas! Obrigado
This is awesome! Thanks for the video.
Mr Tonecas has a great attitude and having such a neighbour is a real treasure! The same counts of you for him - which he clearly expressed. :D
Looks like you really addressed last years deficits and hit this year running.
Hiring a camera guy really was a smart idea....
LOVE the neighbor! And I love that the older people around you all respect you. They know what hard work is and they know hard workers when they see them. They know what decency is and recognize that in you. Well done.
She has such a beautiful and awesome spirit of life and giving. Looks like a great feast!
I loved the interview with the neighbor! What a lovely neighbor to have - I would love to see more about how you guys become part of a community!
Great video, really! Still missing the season 1 intro though.
“So we bought this big peace of land and are prototyping are more sustainable way of living. Not sure how it’s gonna go, but let’s see.”

This has brought tears to my eyes! The interview with Tonecas was beautiful and has made me even more determined to learn Portuguese so I can really converse with our neighbours ❤️ and so interesting to hear your thoughts on eating vegan. Thanks for sharing xox
O Sr Tonecas é muito humilde e um grande homem abraços aqui de Arvoredo SC Brasil ora pois.....🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
This kitchen is amazing👏🏼! What a wonderful meal ❤️ congrats for the project !
Wow, his interview brought a tear to my eye. What a wonderful welcoming man. Nothing like the people here in the UK.
Your neighbour is a sweetheart! You guys have made so much progress, it is a joy to watch your vlogs.
what i really want to know: what about wind- and hydropower on your land? what about waste water treatment with a constructed wetland? what about biogas for cooking?
Viva Portugal e todos os portugueses! Thank you Project Kamp to show more of this amazing country and people.
Why call it anything? Just eat healthy and mindful 👍🏼 love your approach anyhow 😘
You are blessed to have such a kind neighbor. The conversation with him touched my heart and brought tears. His willingness to share part of his land, who does this anymore. To me, this is what neighbors do. Work together and help each when they can, I love it! ❤
hello from the England! I love your project and I am very interested in coming to help
Currently we are looking for a full time role here at Project Kamp, if you are interested - How well can you scrub toilets?
Loved this episode! Good people, great to meet the neighbor and cook. Wonderful to see the progress and cleanup of access to the waterfall. Can't wait to see the next episode. Cheers!
Q: Whatever happened to the giant table from the bowling club(?) that was transported to Portugal in the kitchen container?
Everyones hard work, high spirits, love and respect for each other and the land is very evident!
It brings me joy and hope watching your videos that this will become more common globally.
I've seen some youtubers use waterfalls to generate electricity, It seems this waterfall is too small for that, but would that be something you would consider to generate electricity?
No, it's not on their land.
@@mccarraa their water source isn’t from their own land. Think it’s a kind of mi casa es tu casa type deal
@oliviermonteyne In the PK Q&A session, posted recently, they said that they do not plan to add animals.
A few chickens shouldn't be a problem, right? But wasn't there a fox...?
@@princesspearlthumb This video just came out on May 30th. They said the Q&A is next week. Did both videos come out earlier for Patreon?
They are vegan so they do not want to use animals ....
@@Amber4 But why? Veganism is all about animal-, environment-, and self-related motives. Here on their lovely piece of land they can ensure those 3 things so that discards the current, society-shaped definition of veganism.
i think this has been my favourite so far the locals seem like genuine good people i loved his little bit of history
@@Beni10PT Precicely.
You are not a vegan if you eat eggs you are a vegetarian. Some people clearly do not know the difference between the two.
@@kameljoe21 You are absolutely right. Even though you sound quite rude. Have a great day, Sir.
@@lomalinke5042 You are very welcome. I sound rude because have you read the comments? People clearly are stupid.
i cant get enough of these videos its really inspiring thank you for this!
I've been a vegetarian for two decades, but I'll never give up eggs and honey. When integrated into permaculture I'm comfortable with the life of a honeybee or chicken
The mentality/hospitality of people there is just amazing! ☺️... Makes my heart happy!
I like the Flexitarian approach. You'd go for a more Vegan diet but prioritise local produce instead of industrially prepared foods, and you'd be accepting any animal products that you'd get from neighbours.
Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Loved this video. The waterfall area is a wonderful place and your neighbour is so lovely and to be cherished.
so long as you maintain the fact that the produce is local and sustainable, it would be better for both yourselves and your surroundings to have animal products in your diet. The problem with most meat and animal products is the way in which it is harvested, so as long as you can guarantee its sustainability and also ensure that the environment in which the animals are kept in is of high quality, then you are being most beneficial for your selves, and the planet
They dont need meat or animal products
My Question:
Are there a Book about this Region or other Old People they could tell us more about the Land.
How are the Changes in the last 500 Years.
Who are oldest living People in your Region?
what are you, a cop?
@@dano9704 Lol.....
Great video guys, really liked the videpgraphy, the flow, and meeting new members. It felt like watching a high end documentary.
And what a great neighbour, all about seeing the countryside come back to life.
How do you get money to buy the land and keep getting food etc. I really struggle to understand how thats possible

This is my favorite episode so far. I enjoy learning about the large projects, but it is great to learn more about the people in the camp and the day-to-day happenings in the community. It's so different from my urban lifestyle, and I find it fascinating.
