Mewtwo isn't in the game because it's a legendary pokemon, there's supposed to be only one in the world. It doesn't make sense if multiple people all have mewtwo. Not to mention Mewtwo would single handedly be the strongest pokemon in the game and it wouldn't be fair in gym battles.

Well, considering game plot and the anime plot are in a different universe, we could just ignore that detail about Ash. And Professor Willow is actually Professor X Willow. Not Willow X. Just like the others. Samuel Oak. Aurea Juniper, etc. This timeline doesn't make any sense because AZ clearly stated that it's been 3000 years since he last saw Floette aka the end of the war. So, it's very unlikely that Mewtwo is completed before the war.
What if Lt. Surge Is the Instinct Leader? Think about it, they both have yellow hair, love electric Pokémon and the instinct leader seems to be in his teens 20-30 And Lt. Surge seems to be in his 50's seeing he had been in the great Pokémon war you have to think that since instinct was in that war (as matpat said) and if instinct was in that war and Lt. I'd be the type of game developer who'd see MatPat's theories and use them as inspiration for writing or rewriting parts of my story. Though he sometimes reads into things a bit more than likely intended, he makes an effort to make a lot of sense, and I appreciate that.

As someone who has played Pokemon GO daily since getting into the beta in 2016, this video is an absolute TRIP to watch! I am absolutely in love with the idea that GO is canon in the Pokemon universe, especially the bit about Pryce/Willow. Obviously a lot has changed, mostly thanks to updates to the app and the release of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but this was still a fantastic watch 6 years after this game's release. I wonder if Pokemon GO has any more theories that have developed over the half decade that has passed?

Ditto being in the game doesn't kill this theory. Mew is in captivity being cloned, Mewtwo hasn't been made yet. Unsuccessful Dittos are thrown out and now exist in the wild. Technically, Ditto being added still leaves the theory valid.
They found a piece of Mew's hair/fur. They used the DNA from the hair to clone Mew into Mewtwo. Only Mewtwo and maybe Ditto survived. The ones that didn't make it were CharmanderTwo, SquirtleTwo, BulbasaurTwo, and AmberTwo. Well... That is if we're going by anime logic.

Professor Oak created the Pokedex at the beginning of Red and Blue and you (as the player) are the first one to receive it. In GO the Pokedex wouldnt exist if this theory was true. #TheoryDebunked

One overlooked fact: how do all the Kabuto and Omanyte become fossils within Pryce's lifetime? That's impossible for them to all die out plus FOSSILIZE in only around 50 years?
Alex Lee well those pokemon have been around for a very long time, and there are possibly ancient ones that were since fossilized. they're even somewhat rare pokemon in go, and maybe the already supply of them in go was used up in the war since people usually want more powerful or rare things in life.

MatPat seems to have forgotten that the Pokedex mentions that Kabuto went exstinct over 300 Million years ago, though different pokedex seem to contradict that.
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire Pokedex, "Omanyte is one of the ancient and long-since-extinct Pokémon that have been regenerated from fossils by people. If attacked by an enemy, it withdraws itself inside its hard shell." If this theory were true then Omanyte would need to be regenerated at a lab somewhere without the possibility of it found, even rarely, anywhere since it is "long-since-extinct."

I think the fact that Ditto appeared means that the cloning has started. After Porygon's creation and before Mewtwo's cloning. Which means that the war will start soon.
Or they has the data for Ditto this entire time, and they just wanted someone to find this out and they added Ditto now to simulate the start of the cloning.

What's more likely, they all happen to die out within a few years (a short enough time that neither Red or Gold look any different in B&W) or that these berries just aren't local to Unova or Sinnoh, and that's why you don't see them. I think I'd go Occam's razor here
Potato / keep in mind that the Alola region could be a missing link between generation one and Go. The trials seem rudimentary compared to a structured gym system. If they are holding onto tradition, they may have been the first to convert from candies to actual training. This would leave excess candies about if it were the case

well ditto was just recently added and he probably didn't know it was coming. Interesting though, is that he could still be right. We got ditto, but no mewtwo or mew. Even more, one of the selling points for go was legendary battles, showing thousands of people in time square catching/fighting mewtwo at once. Yet Mewtwo is still absent. This could still very well fall into that time of them creating mewtwo, but not succeeding, I mean it took how many months for that to be added?
second gen pokemons are there when the war occured, the resurrection of the 3 beast came first before the war,. but you are true when mewtwo will come out, or porygon 2

Ditto coming into the game doesn't change anything about your theory Mat! What if the game is now going through the cloning process and Ditto is the failed attempt you talked about? That would explain why we still don't have mewtwo. Because they are still trying and failing to clone Mew successfully and eventually we will get Mewtwo when they finally figure out how to clone properly. But hey, that's just a theory. Liked the theory, especially the bit with Willow, but here the things you got wrong. The fossil Pokemon have been extinct for thousands of years, but only in the main series games. The fossil Pokemon are always found wild in spin-off games such as Pokemon Ranger and Mystery Dungeon. Porygon is not "alive" and Mewtwo is not a clone. Porygon is a program, and Mewtwo is a genetically modified baby of Mew. Formal trainers have been a thing since long before Poke Balls were created. Rare Candies are sold. You can buy them with in various Battle Facilities. They just aren't available in Marts, similar to how most of the TMs or even Evolutionary Stones aren't. My original comment disappeared, so leaving it here again.
I love how game theory fans think that someone is butthurt because someone in the comments point out a flaw despite saying that they enjoyed the theory.
Sugar there's one slight flaw in saying that Mewtwo is not a clone. they never say anything about a second Mew, and, when finding one was such a huge deal, its extremely unlikely that they found a second one and didn't say anything about it, and in order for any offspring to not be a clone, they would need two Mew.
Can we just take a minute to acknowledge that Team Valor could be the origins of Team Rocket? They got defeated by Mystic and Instinct and fled to the shadows and started over again...
Every team in pokemon has always been an evil organization, but in pokemon go they are good. What if after they created the war, all teams were seen as evil after what the original three teams had brought upon the world.
What I think is that there was a final battle in which the team leaders were killed. After that, the teams went into hiding and eventually collapsed. Then, evil teams modelled themselves after teams Valor Mystic and Instinct.

This theory falls apart in more places than your usual theories. For starters; Rare Candies can be bought in later gens with Battle Points. Apparently no one cares anymore? You mention fighting not being a thing yet but there are gyms in Pokemon Go Your evidence that Razz Berries are rare says right there that they're rare *in the Unova region* Willow being Pryce is just stupid, Willow aging 30 or so years would imply that all of the tech has developed in such a short time and fossil Pokemon have fossilized. Your theories are usually half-baked but this is ridiculous.
I think the "fighting not being a thing" basically means, the more sophisticated type we see in the original pokemon games where there's different movesets and not just tackling the opponent's pokemon and they sell the candies with battle points....not the usual money or sold in stores like pokeballs. chances are they created another method without making it cruel...
You could maybe say that Kabutops etc. are alive today, but have been more or less unchanged for millions of years, and so exist in the fossil record too. Then, in the gap between now and Gen1, they become extinct, and can only be revived from the ancient fossils (for some reason...). I'll admit it's a stretch!
What if the reason zapdos articuno and moltres aren't in Pokémon go is because they were artificially created by each team respectively and were used to fight in the war?
Things I found weird : 1. Rare candy works for every pokemon, but candies in pokemon GO need to be used on specific species to be of use 2. Lt. Surge saying there was war before is kind of a weak reason to define that there was war involving the three pokemon GO teams. It's probably just said to strengthen Lt. Surge's military background 3. Ditto is released today... they probably were just confused as to how to apply ditto in battle, as ditto only have the move transform originally 4. If what you said were true, then the era where fossil pokemon still lived and the era where they've gone extinct and become a fossil would be only separated for twenty years or so... which would be impossible Overall, I liked how you pointed Pryce saying his middle name is Willow, I never noticed that, and also the Razz Berry shortage. Geo Stelar Another point: the Razzberry description in 5th gen and X/Y both say that the berry is rare in Unova. Mat makes it sound like it's Rare in Unova and Kalos. It's only rare to one region. And considering that Unova has cities and desert as 2 of it's more defining features, one can safely assume that Unova simply isn't the preferred environment for the Razzberry. It's not a shortage causing the rarity, it's the poor environment.

It'd be so amazing to see you update this theory! There's now research tasks, EX-Raids, Raids in general, and special research which after completing several pages you finally unlock capturing Mew. Community days usually introduce the shiny form of a Pokemon as well as making it appear everywhere worldwide for 3 hours on a particular day once a month. There's been lots of legendaries and 3 gens out with the 4th one coming out anytime within the next coming months. Loved the theory! I like it a lot still, but I'd love to know your thoughts about all the new things added and what it means for the Pokemon Universe!

My idea on why rare candy is rare: since all candy in Pokémon go is species specific, and rare candy can be used on any type of Pokémon, wouldn't that have to be ditto or mew candy?

Ditto being in the game doesn't kill this theory. Mew is in captivity being cloned, Mewtwo hasn't been made yet. Unsuccessful Dittos are thrown out and now exist in the wild. Technically, Ditto being added still leaves the theory valid.

Alex Lee well those pokemon have been around for a very long time, and there are possibly ancient ones that were since fossilized. they're even somewhat rare pokemon in go, and maybe the already supply of them in go was used up in the war since people usually want more powerful or rare things in life.

MatPat seems to have forgotten that the Pokedex mentions that Kabuto went exstinct over 300 Million years ago, though different pokedex seem to contradict that.

If this theory were true then Omanyte would need to be regenerated at a lab somewhere without the possibility of it found, even rarely, anywhere since it is "long-since-extinct."

I think the fact that Ditto appeared means that the cloning has started. After Porygon's creation and before Mewtwo's cloning. Which means that the war will start soon.

Even more, one of the selling points for go was legendary battles, showing thousands of people in time square catching/fighting mewtwo at once. Yet Mewtwo is still absent. This could still very well fall into that time of them creating mewtwo, but not succeeding, I mean it took how many months for that to be added?

That would explain why we still don't have mewtwo. The fossil Pokemon have been extinct for thousands of years, but only in the main series games. The fossil Pokemon are always found wild in spin-off games such as Pokemon Ranger and Mystery Dungeon.
Porygon is not "alive" and Mewtwo is not a clone. Porygon is a program, and Mewtwo is a genetically modified baby of Mew.
Formal trainers have been a thing since long before Poke Balls were created.
Rare Candies are sold. You can buy them with in various Battle Facilities.
They just aren't available in Marts, similar to how most of the TMs or even Evolutionary Stones aren't.

I think the "fighting not being a thing" basically means, the more sophisticated type we see in the original pokemon games where there's different movesets and not just tackling the opponent's pokemon
and they sell the candies with battle points....not the usual money or sold in stores like pokeballs. chances are they created another method without making it cruel...
You could maybe say that Kabutops etc. are alive today, but have been more or less unchanged for millions of years, and so exist in the fossil record too. Then, in the gap between now and Gen1, they become extinct, and can only be revived from the ancient fossils (for some reason...). I'll admit it's a stretch!

1. Rare candy works for every pokemon, but candies in pokemon GO need to be used on specific species to be of use
2. Lt. Surge saying there was war before is kind of a weak reason to define that there was war involving the three pokemon GO teams. It's probably just said to strengthen Lt. Surge's military background
3. Ditto is released today... they probably were just confused as to how to apply ditto in battle, as ditto only have the move transform originally
4. If what you said were true, then the era where fossil pokemon still lived and the era where they've gone extinct and become a fossil would be only separated for twenty years or so... which would be impossible
Overall, I liked how you pointed Pryce saying his middle name is Willow, I never noticed that, and also the Razz Berry shortage. I always wondered why it has to be specifically Razz Berry in Pokemon GO.

Another point: the Razzberry description in 5th gen and X/Y both say that the berry is rare in Unova. Mat makes it sound like it's Rare in Unova and Kalos. It's only rare to one region. And considering that Unova has cities and desert as 2 of it's more defining features, one can safely assume that Unova simply isn't the preferred environment for the Razzberry. It's not a shortage causing the rarity, it's the poor environment.

It'd be so amazing to see you update this theory! There's now research tasks, EX-Raids, Raids in general, and special research which after completing several pages you finally unlock capturing Mew. Community days usually introduce the shiny form of a Pokemon as well as making it appear everywhere worldwide for 3 hours on a particular day once a month. There's been lots of legendaries and 3 gens out with the 4th one coming out anytime within the next coming months.

My idea on why rare candy is rare: since all candy in Pokémon go is species specific, and rare candy can be used on any type of Pokémon, wouldn't that have to be ditto or mew candy?
