I started planning my trip to Mackinac Island a few months ago and this video gave me some of the best information. I wish every tourist destination had a video exactly like this one.
The best first tip is take the Ferry out of ST IGNACE. We go twice a year during peak times and walk up 15 minutes before the boat leaves and walk right up. On site parking as well, no shuttle bus.
Yes, I like how you talk about parking your car and getting to the island in detail. I also like how you talk about getting to certain places and methods of transportation available. Well done!
I recommend taking the tour around the island. It isn’t fast by horse power but the driver guide shares a lot of information/history that you might not get otherwise. Another tip, no matter how warm it is, it is much cooler on the ferry if you sit outside.
I have been going to Mac island every year of my life since I was about 10, just started 6 years ago going there with my wife every August for our anniversary. this year we actually stayed on the island at stonecliff beautiful beautiful resort. strongly recommend checking that out as well a bit pricey but worth it. the great video. And I might add, staying on the island makes it easier to navigate around the big crowds because everybody tends to head to the mainland around 6 and 7:00 p.m.
thank you. I was there 26 yrs ago so I know things have changed and we used Arnold Line which is gone now....I don't remember in May being any line but that was 1997! lol Thanks for these great tips- we are going in September.. maybe things will calm a little by then- thanks again!
@@youtubeuploads7208 Hoping we do, too! Things definitely changed from when I visited as a child. I hope your trip in September is awesome! Thanks for watching! ☺
I believe it would be okay to leave the bikes parked (not locked) if you go on a hike. I would ask the bike rental company to be sure. Thanks for watching! 😊
Mackinac Island Carriage Tours charges $36 for Adults & Seniors, $15 for Children. The tour is approx 1 hour 45 minutes. (No charge for children 4 years and under if held on lap)
Thanks for the info. We rented our bikes on the island at Mackinac Cycle. They offer FREE BOTTLE OF WATER, FREE BASKET, and FREE HELMET. Thanks for watching! :)
@@MrsShredder When you bought it online, did they mail you the plastic tag that wraps around your handlebars showing that you paid? How did you get your plastic handlebar tag?
@@jimknarr we still had to get in the ticket line, but that doesn't take very long if you get there early in the morning. We never travel in the middle of the day, so I can't say how busy it might get later. We also parked our car there because we were staying on the island for a few days, so we had to give them our keys, thus there was no avoiding going to the ticket window.
Glad I saw this video. But you didn't say what you do with your car. Does the ferry bring it over to the island or is there a parking lot before you get to the ferry? How much is parking if so? thanks
We parked our car at the ferry parking lot. I believe there is no charge for parking there if you are using their services. There are no motorized vehicles allowed on the island. I hope your trip is wonderful! Thanks for watching! ☺
Hello! To explore the island we usually stay for the whole day but if you have a tight schedule I would plan for at least 4-5 hours. Renting bikes to ride around the island or a horse-drawn carriage is a great way to break away from the busyness of the island and do some sightseeing. I hope you enjoy your visit! Thanks for your question! ☺
@@MidwestMoodandFood going to ride my motorcycle north an want to make that a stop. I have not been there since 2005 when we stayed on the island for a few days. Thank you so much. It was a great video.

I appreciate your positive comments. I'm glad my video helped you! Thanks so much for watching! 😀
Pro tip: the lines for the boats are much shorter in St. Ignace. Cross the bridge and cross from there!
Thank you! 😄

I love the lake view. Maybe one day I'll settle there. I live In a big city but have the heart of a small town boy.
The island does have gorgeous lake views! Thanks for watching! 😊

Would love to stay on the island next visit! Will have to check into Stonecliff Resort. Thank you for your comment and thanks for watching! :)
You may catch a shuttle from St. Ignace for shorter lines and shorter distance to the island.
Yes definitely worth a try leaving from St Ignace. Thanks for watching! 🙂
Thank you for the video!! Very informative!
Thank you and thanks for watching! 😃
One of my favorite places on earth 😎
We love it, too! The UP is amazing as well. Thanks for watching! 😃
Good Video!

If you go across the bridge to Saint Ignace, the line and the wait for the ferry is much smaller and the ride is shorter to the island.
Thank you!

When you park a rented bike and take a hike, do you need to lock it or is it safe to leave it?
I believe it would be okay to leave the bikes parked (not locked) if you go on a hike. I would ask the bike rental company to be sure. Thanks for watching! 😊
The lines aren't that long all the time. We got our boat tickets at the local motels there in mackinaw city. No problem.
Great info! Thanks for watching! 😃
How much is to ride the horse carriage? Thank you
Mackinac Island Carriage Tours charges $36 for Adults & Seniors, $15 for Children. The tour is approx 1 hour 45 minutes. (No charge for children 4 years and under if held on lap)
Unfortunately for bringing bikes to the island, you still have to stand in line to buy a bike ticket. They don't sell those online.
Thanks for the info. We rented our bikes on the island at Mackinac Cycle. They offer FREE BOTTLE OF WATER, FREE BASKET, and FREE HELMET. Thanks for watching! :)
You can purchase a bike ticket on line for Star Line Ferry. We did it last year and this year too. I think it was $13 per bike.

Are bikes allowed on the ferries?
Yes they are but there is a fee of $16 to take your bike on Sheplers Ferry.
