I had a similar idea about Adam; like this was Adam's posthumous opportunity to make peace with his loss and loneliness in life

I think both interpretations are sublime. But yeah I was totally surprised when Bruce offered that theory. Honestly I tend to agree with both your takes as the days progress. Bottom line hope people find a lot of value in this film.

@@DeepestDream I keep thinking about the scene in the night club, where Adam and Harry were face to face and backlit with an extraordinary, almost unearthly brilliance behind them, shining on them and them alone. Was this because they were, for all intents and purposes, alone? FWIW I choked back tears through the whole movie starting with the Jamie Bell Andrew Scott scene and one poor fella in the theatre cried through the end credits, inconsolable. This film has universal appeal, but will ring so sadly, tragically, beautifully true for gay men of a certain age.

@@hammond3603 yeah I couldn’t really go in-depth with my feelings for this film bc I would have teared up during the review. What also makes the story one of a kind is that u think it is about reconciling with one’s parents but it is ultimately focused on healing one’s self and actually giving life a shot (or in the other case, moving on untethered to another plane).

I am in agreement with Bruce re Adam. I definitely want to believe that version. This film absolutely shattered me when I saw it last week & I will be going back to see it next week.

Yeah Bruce had a spot on interpretation. It makes the movie an even richer and melancholic experience for me. Am a bit disappointed that it did not receive a bigger spotlight during awards
Season but this movie will gradually catch on imo.

Thank you so much for such a great review of this wonderful movie. This movie reminded me of inner child work in therapy. I cried for a long time after seeing it & know that I will re-watch this time and time again. This is definitely in my top 10!

I really thought adam is also a ghost. His parents often refer to him as “burning”, got me thinking he also burned with harry the same day. And the light colour with harry is always in a tint of red.

Good point - did not catch the burning part. Will listen better upon 2nd watch.

Adam died from apartment building fire. That was Adam spirit walked out and down all by himself.

Thank you for another insightful review of an important film that is, now however, being marginalised in two significant ways. Firstly, Andrew Scott’s outstanding performance was seemingly snubbed by BAFTA’s anonymous diverse sub-committee, brought in to ensure full ethnic representation in the films chosen for member voting. Secondly, there’s Disney’s decision not to release the film on hard media - blu ray or dvd - but only as streamed content. Such actions will have a significant impact on the gay community. Both decisions are irresponsible, potentially homophobic, and will limit the audience for a masterpiece in which gay people are presented realistically and not as the stereotypes that normally exist in mainstream media. Such patronising films as BROS, for instance, are released on every media platform despite the image of gay people they present being false, reactionary, offensive and damaging to many in the community. Both Disney and BAFTA’s treatment of Andrew Haig’s film are unacceptable and should be called to account.

Had no idea about no physical media - an absolute travesty. Honestly shocking to me that this was ignored/snubbed during awards season.

The film is a masterpiece, and very soon will be considered a classic.
