@@SeanYauder new tld is much less aggressive and kicks are more softer and not as strong compared to old. Old they would kick super hard because of no electronic gear and would be much less aggressive in sparring. Its not something I agree with yes it might be not as exciting but I prefer new

I didn't think it was boring just because no one got knocked out -- the same way I don't get bored watching wrestling, or judo, or Floyd Mayweather, or Saenchai. If I want to see knockouts, I'll go watch heavyweight MMA or kickboxing. As for skills that can be carried over to other sports, I understand the emphasis on power has been lost. Taekwondo's back kick is one of the most powerful kicks in all of combat sports, and the spinning wheel kick is one of the coolest kicks in all of combat sports (although both are very difficult to land, when they do land flush they have devastating effects). While I miss those kicks, the new Taekwondo makes up for it with an emphasis on speed, balance, and ultra-precise distance management. If there is one skill that Taekwondo guys have to offer in the kickboxing ring or MMA cage, it's their long-range distance management, and those skills have improved under the e-Hogu system.

@@williamdean4775 Taekwondo was originally invented in Korea to fight invaders. Your opponent shouldn't be seen as an invader but as a friend, you don't want to cause harm to him. You want a clear and peaceful match, but peaceful doesn't mean boring.

Since I belong to the modern era, I really understand how difficult it is to register a point on electronic armors, causing fighters to control their kicks, reducing their speed and power. I've been searching for young and known athletes who competed in 2008 Beijing and honestly, Those athletes that still exist today are countable with my ten fingers. But we can't blame the fighters themselves, they trained for so many years being engaged in flashy and powerful kicks and these electronic armors ruined their fighting style. No wonder so many athletes that came from nowhere have competed in 2012 and 2016 Olympics. I really hope that WTF would come up to a solution for this. I think requiring more power in order to score on these armors could make a difference. I'm looking forward for better changes, Goodluck WTF!

I also miss the flair and excitement of old school Taekwondo. However as an Olympic sport you need to realise that the sport needed to evolve to conform . 1. An impartial scoring system by having sensors in the feet and body guard. This makes the scoring “fairer” but also makes the athletes adjust their styles just to compete within the framework. 2. No punching to head, grappling, etc. Yes it makes it less effective as a self defence art but it means these athletes that have spent hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars in their training are less likely to get seriously injured.

Believe me, you guys should watch "pencak silat"....we all know tkd is all about kicking and i admit it was Really COol, but silat are relates on our life called self defense, they are rich in techniques, aggressive and more intense.!!
There's no need to be blood everywhere while performing martial art. TKD in olympics has evolved in a way that puts accuracy and speed over power. If you wanna call olympic TKD boring because there is no blood and pain througout the game go and watch MMA. They also have great TKD players with bigger actions and power.
