Yo llevo unos 4 años usando el pedal CE-2W y es una maravilla lo uso en mis canciones, por sus funciones da una versatilidad enorme para la composición.
Your comparison really does justice to the MXR. I've seen a couple of other comparisons where I feel like people didn't set the MXR correctly to compare it with the Boss. In your demo I have a hard time saying one is superior, which is an interesting finding!
hey!, i got an 1981 Boss Ce-2 (mn3007) great!, the ce-1 great !, but unconfortable big and heavy!, and I bought a brand new Boss Ce-2w, and I really don t like it, sounds is far to be close to the original. Man, 3 days ago I bought that Mxr and I really love it!. Such a great gem!!.. and the price is soo low!… the best 50yo gift I made just for me!.. MXR!!!! Ps. Don t make me wrong please!, I will love Boss pedals forever, the Boss Dc-2w sounds awesome too… Cheers from far away!
Great comparison! I had both of these until a few weeks ago. I ended up selling the MXR. I had the CE-2W first and wanted to try the MXR for the extra control. The MXR is a fantastic chorus pedal, but the CE-2W is just THE sound that I would find myself trying to emulate with the 5 knobs on the MXR. Watching your video helped confirm my opinion too because I kept finding myself looking at the screen while you were playing the CE-2W. Just like you though, I had to spend some time with both before I knew which one I preferred. I’m probably going to have to get the VB-2W now as well.
Totally agree. The MXR is great - and there are maybe one or two things it's even better at, particularly a kind of indie rock lo-fi Death Cab For Cutie sound - but the CE-2W is *the sound* I was imagining every time I bought a chorus pedal. And even though they sound very similar, the Boss has a smoothness and warmth that the MXR doesn't. I had the MXR first, and the reason my search didn't end there was that I heard a sort of metallic, gritty quality to it that I couldn't dial out, and the Boss avoids that completely. Just smooth and pleasant at every setting.
Jackson, I had the VB-2W and I've found that if you're looking for a very slow rate it doesn't really do the trick. If you're looking for the classic Boss vibrato it'll do it it however, before you purchase try this: plug an extra cable into the expression jack on your CE-2W and move your switch all the way to the right. Bring the rate all the way down and the depth to 9 o clock. You'll have an amazing vibrato sound! When you switch the pedal all the way to the right you're getting the clean signal and a vibrato signal. Filling that expression out with a cable closes that loop and you only get the vibrato sound. I ended up liking this just as much if not more than having a stand alone vibrato pedal on my board. As a solution I've kept an extra cable on my board taped next to me CE-2W. Whenever I want vibrato I'll plug the cable in!
@@Elaleyelunivese I have heard that a lot too.For some reason when it was on my board I never noticed it. After l heard about the tone suck, whenever I used it, I notice it now lol.
Nice demo, man. I've been considering the MXR and the 3rd Dimension, so this is helpful. I love the voicing of the CE-2w, but in the second half of this video, you were able to get these two pretty similar to each other (which was a surprise) though the CE-2w still wins imho. Also appreciate how you explored the more dimed settings. Thanks!
Thanks! Yeah it made me a little uncomfortable how close they can be made to sound. I still ended up keeping the Boss after this but... to be honest a really big part of that might just be my affection for Boss and not that they sound drastically different. I do think it's a little warmer and less metallic but they're not far apart.
Not one time did you do what the MXR does best, which is dial in the knobs in the way that emulates the old boss sound perfectly. That's with leaving the lows all the way down and with the high knob at about 11 o'clock.
They are both good, is it just me or is the MXR a little more subtle, modern perhaps? IMO both great pedals, both blue! Boss has the better battery access, of course, if you're using batteries.
I have the MXR and love it. However it does suck tone when off. If you put a buffered bypass after it, that fixes it. However I do like the boss, it's just that the boss is double the price. I may still get the boss someday. I also find that when the boss is set too high in effect, it is no longer musical for me at least. That's why I initially went with the MXR.
I bought a cheap $25 true bypass looper pedal and run the MXR analog chorus through it so the chorus pedal is true bypass when off. It was a good solution to the tone suck issue and the true bypass looper is passive so it doesn’t require any power. It’s handmade in California by a company called Saturnworks. But yes I do love my MXR M234. ✌🏻
so I DID listen with headphones on, and I am curious as to your feelings after re listening with your headphones in. Did you like one over the other? I thought the BOSS was quite richer in tone than the MXR.
The Boss just sounds so much smoother. And ethereal. But not too strange. The MXR has a metallic harshness. Ok pedal. Love the features. But I need the Boss in my life unfortunately
Haha “telespaul”, I like that. I love this guitar. I’m a Les Paul person at heart but I always admired how Teles look. When I saw this guitar in a rig rundown a few years ago, I knew I had to grab one
I just had the two this past weekend and in my opinion MXR is better, the analogman sounds good, but weak in comparison, I wanted to hear more modulation from it despite it was the custom one with the deep switch to give it that extra delay time and thicken the sound, but no, too subtle for my taste, and two knobs only whereas the MXR can achieve a lot More with all the knobs it has to shape the sound.
The Analogman is phenomenal! A few years back we were playing a gig and one of our guitar guys snuck in the Analogman into part of a song. All of his bandmates' jaws dropped. So cool! That said ... if you want the classic 80s chorus tone ... gotta go with the Boss!
I love Boss, I’m delighted to have one on here again. I’m happy to use a non Waza one too but you’re right, definitely see more of these on fancy boards 😅
@@LeFeversAudio I have Boss, but the newer, cooler RV and MD 500's, so it's OK 🤣, still have a Behringer Noise Reducer 😁. I'm trying to learn to use those 500 series "supercomputers" better, so I'm taking all of my other delay, reverb, and octave/modulation pedals off my board to really dig in to them. I like the CE-1 Chorus and Vibe settings on the MD-500, but that CE-2W you have sounds great. I also have a CH-1 SUPER Chorus that I really like, especially if you want to go more subtle.
@@LeFeversAudio It isn't quite as "warm" sounding, but with the level and tone controls it's great for the more subtle chorus sounds. If you want to warm it up a bit use a tape or analog delay with it, instant warmth, lol.

Thank you! Yeah I think they're both impressive in their own way, and the MXR definitely has some interesting flexibility with all those knobs.

Thank you
I love the MXR Pedal!
It really is shockingly good!
Same here, but mxr really sucks tone in bypass mode, shit!

What do you think of the Julia v2 compared to the ce2w ?
I actually haven't used a Julia, that's probably the biggest competition to the CE-2w but I've never come across one yet to try out. Sorry!
I think deep down everyone wants a BOSS pedal or 2 on their board, Waza just makes it acceptable, lol.

Agreed, I love the warmth of it.
Dang Boss for being so pricey. :(
It's really something. 😬
The Boss is 300$? Forget about it, besides, I would always choose and American made MXR over some pedal made in China. No contest.
$200 and made in Japan, actually, but yeah, I see your point.
