I stayed in a Ronald McDonald house with my sick child for about 6 months and they treated us beautifully. They were so kind and supportive during the toughest time my children and I have ever been through. Thankfully my child made a full recovery.

logan buffa Thank you very much. My daughter has wanted to be a nurse since she was 5, she was 14 when she got sick. While she was sick she decided she wanted to be a pediatric nurse because she'll know how the kids feel now that she's been through it too. On Sept 2 of this year she moved into her college dorm room. I swear to God I was put on this earth to bring my girls to the world. They're both that amazing.

It's funny I have given my change to the Ronald McDonald house for years and had no idea what it really did. I just knew it said it was for families and I hate change in my pockets. I'm glad it actually helps people since I have been giving to it for like 30 years lol. Oh and I am very happy to hear your child made a full recovery.

      S. Bull Thank you. Yes, your change makes a huge difference. Your helping families in crisis. People often show up with only the clothes they're in and not even a toothbrush because they've been medivacced from a rural hospital or even straight from the side of a hwy from car accidents. We were suddenly 1200 kms from home and didn't get to see our own beds for nearly a year. They help with everything from food and clothing to counseling. You can take virtual tours of the RMHS as well. The one we stayed in is in Edmonton Alberta, they're amazing. I hope you take the tour.

I’ve done work with Ronald McDonald House Charities, and before I was born, they helped my family out a lot. My brother died at 26 days and throughout those 26 days the RMH in Macon took care of my parents even after he passed. They’re a great charity even if the food isn’t that good for you.

@Leroy Brown I think he means the stuff about Ronald's role becoming so 'legally distinct'. He's a mascot that sells junk food, and they play it off for the hypothetical court like he's some personal trainer for kids in charge of company morale or something. It was political maneuvering to avoid backlash, but geez, really? It's easy to hate this kind of language; it has a technical purpose, but to the ear it just sounds like they're treating the whole world as if it doesn't know any better.
THEN AGAIN, this is 2021, and that same language tricked most of the planet into thinking you could stop a [redacted] by strapping a piece of household linen across your face, so maybe that sort of tone is appropriate after all.

I actually met one of the guys playing Ronald McDonald about six years ago at my local restaurant. I was able to grab some time with him after the parents put their cameras away and ask him a few questions.
Apparently it's an incredibly stressful job as you need to be in full makeup and attire even when driving from location to location, because anyone who sees you on the road needs to be able to recognize you.
It's also emotionally taxing as managers are encouraged to report you if your cheery demeanor drops subpar. No matter how hot or painful the job is.
But the benefits are outstanding, the pay is amazing, and you get to travel the country putting smiles on faces anywhere you go. He loved it, but told me it's a job for highly specific people.

I once wrote and asked McDonald's if they could help me to identify the amazing artist who was responsible for so much of their artwork throughout the 1970s & 1980s because I really wanted to find out more about this person and hopefully see more of their work.
Only recently did I finally discover by unexpectedly finding an online auction of this artist's extensive work that he had created for McDonald's over the years which, quite amazingly and unexpectedly turned out to be more extensive than I would have ever imagined, but included almost every level of detail from the whimsical advertising to the functionality and pleasing aesthetics of the restaurants themselves, from signs, etchings on glass, stained glass, wall murals, fonts, sculptures, and on and on and on. It turns out the artist whose work had captured my eye is described as a "prolific set and theme-park designer for more than four decades until his death in 2005." by the name of Wes Cook. Honestly, it would appear that he was almost entirely responsible for virtually every detail of McDonald's inside and out, top to bottom almost since the time Ray Kroc started out on his plot to make certain that it was virtually impossible to shoot a film, news, or TV productions without having the company logo photo bombing your shots.
Anyways, back to the start of my message about the letter I sent to McDonald's. I waited hopefully expecting that they would be able to help identify Wes Clark, years before I was able to actually find out who he was on my own. Instead, after a couple of months, I finally received an official response from the company in regards to my letter which read:
"Dear Sir, we have received your inquiry and have thoroughly considered your request, but it is our regret to inform you that we are not able to sell frozen meat products directly to the consumer. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but it is our company policy to only offer our fully prepared products directly through our many retail stores.
    Sincerely, McDonald's Corp."
YEAH! you and me both. That look you just made is precisely the same exact look that came across my face when I first read that response too.

I can only guess that somewhere between John Wayne Gacy, It, and a few other terror-clown characters in the 80s and 90s, maybe a generation of clown-o-phobics (I know there's a real name, just too lazy to look it up) was created? When the first MacDonald's opened up near us , they put this giant horrible inflatable Ronald McDonald on top of it. So , naturally , we all went around at 3am to shoot it with our BB guns. We'd shoot it and the next day old Ronald would be dropping all saggy. So they'd patch him up, after two weeks his head was lumpy with patches.
      But worse was to come.
A day before the promotion was to end ,we had gale force winds and Ronald got loose! He was blown from the restaurant, to across the highway, and into and over the surrounding houses. He broke chimneys, tv aerials, broke windows and kept going for 2 miles! So much carnage. Eventually he was torn up and deflated ( except for his head) and caught up in the local tennis courts. We all went down to see the tragic sight and to try to get on the news ( it was the 70s) . I still remember his big old head bobbing in the breeze and all the angry homeowners yelling at the MacDonald's workmen who were trying to pack him away.

In the French town of Carcassonne, the bench fiberglass statue of Ronald that originally adorned the restaurant facing the train station was eventually removed and remained for almost ten years under the front porch of a small villa facing the canal du midi, that housed the local branch office. Out of context, the thing looked incredibly intimidating, as if it had moved there on its own, and was awaiting its next victim.
