  • This is my video for my new About page on my new site. You know me from UltimatePaperMache.com, but Now I'm also spending time at JonniGood.com and my new wildlife portraits are bringing up a lot of old memories.
I first sold animal prints at the Pike Place Market in Seattle in the 70s, way back in the distant past before they invented the iPod. :)
Back then, I couldn't afford to print anything in color, so all my animal prints were black and white. There were no acid-free, fade-proof inks available, and the new digital printers hadn't been invented yet.
After a few years, I went to work in 'real' jobs, but I always wanted to get back to art. In 2002 I started my first website, and a few years later I started UltimatePaperMache.com.
And now, I'm going back to my roots, and creating animal portraits again. Instead of a technical pen and black ink, I'm now using several digital programs to make full-color paintings. With each painting I make, I try hard to show how much I admire and respect the animals the paintings represent, and I hope that each one will look like the portrait of a friend. I want them to be a part of your family for a long time.
I do still get emails from people who bought one of my prints way back there at the Pike Place Market, in the 70s.
Since I sold those first black and white animal prints, digital printers and fade-proof, acid-free inks were invented, which allows me and other artists to sell affordable fine art prints on museum-quality paper. My new Giclee prints will look beautiful on your walls for many years if you treat them like you would any other piece of art.
If you have any questions or suggestions, I'd love to hear from you. Is there an animal that you think I should add to my collection? Let me know. :)

Great ideas! I have started working on a trio of Greater Rheas, which is fun because they have silly faces, but the colors of the birds you mentioned would be really fun to work with. Thanks!

Hey Jonni ,I was watching your video on "The Business is not working!'lost it somehow ,but I agree with you that most of the " Blog"how to sites are in for their "course " kit and not really to help the individual! I am late to computers, the language, etc! I love Pinterest and I'm kind of confused as to why your wonderful sculptures are not selling or your books! There are quiet a few of the books on eBay for sale at a dollar or two below original price! So something is up with Amazon on that I think! The other thing I wanted to share ,two actually,is that on Facebook social media ,there are"sales groups"dedicated to free exposure for your prints and beautiful creations! and might I suggest you approach a gallery in your area and ask for them to display/or sponsor a show for you!Your sculptures are high quality and just so unusual! Also ,your state has an Artisan Association that is juried ,they must see your art ,and vote you in,then at their sales site ,you take your work to be sold! Many tourists visit these stores! My community of WALTERBORO ,SC has a very large one in an old historic house! (We are just N of Charleston ,SC) YOUR ARE A FABULOUS TEACHER!! Any community college or above would benefit from your patience and attention to detail and caring teaching! I know I jhave! I too am trying to reinvent myself at the "Social Security" time of life! I am Lucky to have an artist " sista-friend "who partners with me to keep looking for an answer and support when we each get weary! This video was 6 months ago ,I do hope things were better! Oh..have you investigated the" etsy" site for selling on line!?Bless you Jonni,(my believed great grandmother was Jonni Etta)! You have Blessed ME with renewed hope and Lifted my Spirit in my journey! D

Hi Donna. My books are selling just fine - they're often at the top of their categories on amazon. But getting traffic to my online store where I tried to sell the prints was an experiment that didn't work. You have to have traffic to sell anything. I've checked the prints that are now being sold on amazon and they don't seem to move very many of them. An etsy site needs traffic, the same way an independent site does, and my little experiment using Pinterest just didn't work. I think if I actually wanted to go into the business of selling prints instead of just playing around with the idea, I'd have to sell at local art fairs where people can see them in person.
Was your great grandmother from Oregon by any chance? My name was popular at a certain time in NE Oregon.
And you're right, having other people to encourage and support you is so important. I'm blessed to have artists in the family, and to get such wonderful feedback from my readers and RUclips subscribers. I hope you have fun reinventing yourself! :)

I agree about the office job thing. I worked 3 different office job, 1 movie theatre job and 1 warehouse job. The office jobs had more comfortable working conditions like climate control and air quality but were so boring. The warehouse job paid better too. I have an office job now but I work from home so it's not so bad. No office drama and I have my spouse here to bring me coffee and make me breakfast/lunch.

That's right - the office politics! I forgot about that part. Much better working at home, especially if you have such a nice spouse. :)

A snowleopard would make an amazing painting. Any feline for that matter. I always enjoy seeing these kind of updates, it inspires me to try out new things as well. Thank you and keep up the good work!

That would be fun to do! There's a snow leopard at the Sioux Falls zoo. I tried to take a picture last time I was there, but he was sleeping and it didn't come out good enough to use as a reference photo. Maybe I"ll take another trip down there and try again. They have a tiger, too. He was also sleeping. Next time, I'll go early, just when they open, and not on a weekend so I'll have the place to myself. :)

Hi Jonni, I have always been drawn to animals stacked on top of each other. You know the bigger as a base and smaller ones on each others' back. Most of the art I have seen are depicting farm animals, which I love, but may be you could try a pile of wild animals.... a bear as the base, a wolf, a fox, and a squirrel at the top... just an idea... love your art...
