- A Guy Called Gerald Live at Victoria Baths November 1988
Otherside of Midnight.
In my memory this night was a lot crazier ,but I think most people came later after the cameras
'Wet' (Aqua Party at Victoria Baths with two heated swimming pools, Turkish baths and sauna; DJs Mike Pickering, Graeme Park and Jon DaSilva, plus a special beach-wear fashion PA. A wonderful idea, but it was bit too cold to entice a lot of people to come down; there was hardly anybody on the dance floor in the sport room, but luckily there was plenty of space in the sauna and the amount of people in the pool was just right. A half-hour of the night was televised as part of 'The Other Side Of Midnight' - a weekly arts programme presented by Tony Wilson and broadcast by Granada.)
From "The Hacienda Must Be Built" by Jon Savage.
had left ,
Cant believe your complaining about the lack of builds or drops, This was a time when dance music was still being defined, you want formulaic build up-breakdown-hands in the air its not exactly hard to find just turn on the radio(its everywhere at the moment) - this is classic stuff, its about mood and atmos and drive. also how boring would it be if everything sounded the same (sometimes i think were not far off with the current dance music scene) C'mon dude - open your mind a bit : )
Here I am, reading this comment 7 years later and this still rings so true. The commercial music is still the same crap, if not even worse and the classic stuff, is still the most desired.
Still better than a lot of the stuff today though
2024 and this track is still better than most of the trash out there. You can tell almost always if it’ll be good when they call it electronic music, or really bad because they address it as EDM 🙄
Who were you saying this to? lol
The acoustics sound fucking amazing to me in that place. Listening to that 303 sound bounce off those tiles, delicious.
You can smell the ecstasy.
It is look like Boiler Room from 90'S. Awesome and great sound in side that swimming pool. 😀👍👍👍
Funny though , Gerald used to live opposite my aunt Norma on Claremont Road. My aunt and my mum used to go swimming in that pool in the 1950s.
what a bizarre setting
was just thinking the same thing
lol no way they'd allow this nowdays.Too much health and safety bullshit.
In the UK at least. They love this sort of stuff in Hungary.
BassGoesBoom1 they just had a boiler room there, some hope for us all :)

Health and safety Knightmare
I found this song through GTA San Andreas SF-UR radio. Definitely one of my favs from the game
Music will always bring different race together. HOUSE LIVES 2017 N INFINITY
I was there at the start, and this track for me defines British dance music,it stilll gives me chills now, memories of dark clubs, ultra violet lights and smoke!
With Graham Massey!!! 808 State used to play an early version of Voodoo Ray live 1988
This was the only point in the entire human history where the venn diagram of water aerobics and acid house crossed
everything was so experimental back then its so refreshing to see because it was a start of a new genre you can tell hes still testing to see whats good. insane how things like new genres of music get made. people who are complaining have no idea of the history
Ludicrously authentic.
I went that night with steff and Gary awesome times for sure.
Is this a certain remix of Voodoo Ray, or just a live version programmed for this performance?? Its really cool
80s and early 90s were a golden era
no reverb box required!!
how random is that..Voodray at the baths! love it
this is fukcing crazy amazing....
amazing I wish I was there, dont think health and safety would allow this now like
Even Alan Partridge wouldn't pitch a rave in a swimming baths with Tony Wilson and water aerobics.
Jerry Sadowitz making an appearance at the beginning!
Tony Wilson, Legend, Always saw him in the stretford paddock at old trafford in the early 70s RIP. Collyhurst reds
I hope no-one splashed Gerald's 303!
+turn1210 Get another for 30 bucks
I don’t think they’re that stupid to do a thing like that.
name sound 3:43 please ?
The old 808 , stunning
Bruh, that looks like an abandon NY subway.
Girls dressed so much hotter back then.
Juno 106. Analog polysynth, NOT a sampler :)
In case anyone was debating the value of alternative venues.....case closed, we need more. Bars and clubs are much too regimented with regards to how we party and get into music.
no midi here just machines talking to each other clocking and slaving
Not correct. TR-909, TR-707 Juno 106 are connected via midi.
Fuck mate,i was enjoying the documentary about the Traditional Gaelic game that's a bit like hockey.
I can't believe you taped over it with this shite!
Good call tho-it's not every day you see acid in the public swimming baths.
Would be a great Vaporwave sample
This is a vibe
A no time masterpiece... ❤️😎🎶
amazing video material!!! I wish I was there!
A Rave with a pool? Why not. They could mix the party drugs into to water.
now I just need an impulse response of Victoria Baths.
Cool cool wow video 😋✨🔥😛💯🌟⭐️✌🏽🤟🏼💫😁👨🎤😄😮

Oh I loved the 80s and 90s sooo much! 😂💕😎
Don't think they were out then. Would have been 900, 1000 something like that
This was a drum beats of the song called Pacific State. Maybe It’s a drum demo of Pacific State. Maybe they use that drum demo back in 1988 before the release of 808 State - Pacific State (Origin)
True fact: there are actually only about 7 different 808 or 303 patterns. It's a good job they all kick arse :):):):)
@@tonelemoan bullshit. Have you ever programmed a drum beat?
Graeme Massey (from 808 state) is playing the synth next to Gerald Simpson
I know. I mentioned it for the benefit of anyone unfamiliar with the 106.

It was pure magic.

@@gaughen this isn't Dave Guetta
Ha..remember hearing it back in the day and thinking the same thing but tbh.I thought that about a lot of those late 80s dance tunes
TheMrE1974 lol I love this tune, I was definitely on something when I made that troll
It was at the bit tony Wilson appeared in a wetsuit 😳
Cool edit from the original.
