Gai Realini may be small in stature, but she's got so much fight in her! I was very impressed with her determination at the end of that TT. She's definitely a worthy wearer of the maillot rojo. Thank you for covering the women's races, Patrick. There's seems to be more parity between the teams this year, and we've been treated to some fantastic racing so far.
Women's pro cycling is really coming of age these last couple of seasons. Some fantastic competition in the pro peloton and so much diversity in rider type
Literally was just wondering if you were gonna cover this! Thank you for the recap as always, best coverage of the women's (and men's) races outside of the live streams for sure! Incredible win by Lidl-Trek today
I don't really get why the first 2 riders slowed up much at all - that close to the finish. They weren't going to be of any use pulling anyone back up.
I didn't like them at first. But they are growing on me. I'm actually surprised they haven't found a way to have the helmets move to adjust to the angle of the head. Maybe in years to come.
Super high level in this TTT! Great to see such an exciting finish with so many teams and the big guns close on GC. Will definitely be watching the rest of La Vuelta
Gaia Realini back in the podium just starting the season !!!. Last year she gave us some very thrilling moments with her courage and determination. I wish her the best for this season !!!.
I literally laughed when they all went over that little bump and the giant lampshades on their head all bounced around. (I’m a TT’er so I’m used to looking ridiculous but that helmet is next level 😂
That's wild. This is another piece of mounting evidence that Realini has some mental horsepower to go with her w/Kg number. Reacting the wrong way or doing it any slower at all would have lost them the stage.
Anyone who had bet on Gaia Realini as red jersey end of stage one needs to be investigated for psychic powers. Also amused by the wide shot of the former Valencia F1 street circuit in the port at the end there.
Gaia is actually on of my favorite riders. Her and a couple of the other climbers look like little kids compared to the other riders. Gaia pulled them through. What a awesome T.T. better then any mens team TT.
Nice stage and also sad with the crash. It looks crazy to me that the 40 kg rider on Trek has to follow riders twice her weight for +20 minutes. That must be insane W/kg and even with a crash at the end they do well.
Not pulling through saves a lot of energy, also a smaller rider has a lower frontal area and thus lower wind resistance. I don't know the numbers but I wouldn't be surprised if Realini actually had an "easier" ride than her teammates.
Van Dijk was going into that corner a bit tighter than everyone else and she tries to correct it but too much lean and disc brake (disc brakes are VERY difficult to modulate in a split second panic situation when all you need is a dab rather than a grab).
Those climbers can likely pull through just fine, the problem is they provide almost no draft for the people behind them, so it is better to not bother.
Absolute power and thus speed on a flat course would also be lower, so the team is better off to distribute the work across the heavier riders who can ride faster.
@@xTTfreakx It isn't quite that simple, power is a function of height. Just adding muscle/fat doesn't raise your aerobic power output. And height also has a penalty on your aerodynamic drag which is the primary issue on a flat course. But because everyone is bent over, only about half of your height impacts your frontal area. HOWEVER, shorter riders have a bit more leeway with positions under UCI rules, so sometimes can get their watts/CdA in a similar place as bigger riders. Anyway in the end a shorter rider tends to be at some disadvantage to a taller rider, all else equal on the flats, but a talented climber would still be able to pull through because all else is not equal, they are talented! But whoever the tall person is behind them ends up doing effectively just double pulls and just wastes them. I had a team TT where we found this out the hard way. The short guy was our strongest rider but he destroyed our 2nd strongest rider before we got to the finish. In retrospect the 2nd strongest rider should have just pulled through and immediately back again.
The women’s cycling has been much more exciting over recent events. Both this year and last. No long, boring, breaks like Tadej or Mathieu. The top women cyclists have at least two top riders battling to the line.
You wonder if the Visma helmets are as fast as they rate for all their riders. Some of helmets don't seem to fit very well and no one helmet fit all. I wonder if all the riders have tried them in a wind tunnel or would they be better off with different ones?
A pedal strike seriously? I thought this was professional racing how do you even do that? Why did she have to risk it and pedal on the turn completely unnecessary.
I always look forward to your highlights packages, mate. SBS doesn't cover everything, unfortunately... Starting with fewer riders and having to nurse the climbers makes for a tough TT! But, geez, what a stage! Wow. 😮 M 🦘🏏😎

Lyanna Mormont of the Cycling Tour 💪
Realini sat on van Vleuten's wheel for like 10k last year just to attack in the last 100m to steal the stage. Not impressed.
The best highlights by a long way.
Thank you Señor Rouge!
Good to see Marlen back too after her crash.
Did not even mention her. Bad LR!
Canyon losing just 8 seconds with 5 riders is crazy good in my opinion, especially since 3 of these 5 are pretty much light climbers
they need to make these tours 10 days man
Women's pro cycling is really coming of age these last couple of seasons. Some fantastic competition in the pro peloton and so much diversity in rider type
Are you kidding .The clown show at the end and they still won.Comedy gold but not an advert for women's sport
Amazing to see the size differences of the riders within a women's pro team. Super impressive managing the effort in a TT. Very, very hard to do.
Thank you for covering the women’s Vuelta. An incredible start by Trek given that crash near the end.
They wanted to make sure they had 4 riders. Time doesn't stop until the 4th rider crosses.
Whatever draft they provided was probably worth 0.02 seconds and the race lead.
@@wesleybrooks1538 lol no. They crossed last. If they had kept going the team would have probably won with full second at least.
Its 4th across the line, doesn’t matter what the first 2 do.
Emotions took control over in these women.
The space balls helmet is spreading
Especially when you can get up to…. Ludicrous Speed!
I didn't like them at first. But they are growing on me. I'm actually surprised they haven't found a way to have the helmets move to adjust to the angle of the head. Maybe in years to come.
As always, an absolute analytical clinic, wrapped up in edge-of-the-seat highlights.
Crazy close results. A great watch!

Continually, the best commentary. Great setting of the story for Realini.
Really enjoyed your review of this TTT….thx, Patrick !
Realini going into a leader's jersey after a TT/TTT is top-tier ciclismo!
A real nail biter, it was fun to watch. I hope everyone is ok on Lidl Trek.
in this Vuelta have very much people in the road, fantastic race, great organitation
That was an excellent race summary. Thank you!
The Visma tt helmets will never not be funny 😂
They do look fast though
I literally laughed when they all went over that little bump and the giant lampshades on their head all bounced around. (I’m a TT’er so I’m used to looking ridiculous but that helmet is next level 😂
from the back, all I see is Dark Helmet.
@@HIcycles exactly "good helmet"
Aero is all that matters.
Nice to see Marlen Reusser back racing after breaking her jaw and losing teeth three (or two?) weeks ago.
TTTs look so cool, seeing the team working together so closely.

Appreciate the coverage! 💕
Every time I hear you say, “Lidl Trek”, I hear “little trek”. Then I start wondering, “Who’s big Trek?”
Really?! I though it is Little Trek indeed! What a cute name that would be!
Yowsers. I love a TTT, you never know how crazy it's going to be.
"VAI!! VAAAI!!!" is my new favorite LR clip.
Without that crash it would have been a dominant performance by Lidl - Trek: undoubtedly the strongest women team of the season
Isn’t Lizzy only just back from injury? That crash would have scared her
If Canyon started with 7 they would have similar time or even better 2 riders is a huge difference
Just love the TTT!
Darth mothers with strange helmets.
I though they looked like shark costumes.
I always hear Lidl Trek as "little Trek" and it sounds cute
That was incredible!

I actually think that it's good for SD Wroks that Koppeky is not at the start :D good to see Lippert back =)

Edge of my seat for that one.
Van Dyk definately unconcious in that corner, look how weirdly she is leaving her right arm! Crazy they say no concussion😢
I still can't get over how those Giro helmets were able to meet the helmet dimensions. Doesn't even look like a helmet.
So they can put down a good TTT course in Spain.
Gaja in rojo after a TTT just shows how much potential she has got for the grand tours.
I was still waiting for the Amstel Gold race fem recap😢
I don’t have Amstel race rights

Lizzie Deignan 😍🤩😍🤩
Pedal striking on a corner at world tour level racing is mind blowing. Shit happens tho.
She's 3 time world champion TT, i'm pretty sure she knows what she's doing
i've seen it happen at the mens TDF, everyone has mental lapses sometimes
Its not a pedal strike. She just gets on the power too early over the zebra crossing and looses the back end.
@@guusd8898 you'd hope so
02:33 what the shark is going on?
Can't wait to see how SD-Works is gonna screw with Vollering this time. Best Entertainment 😅
In 2065 we will see UCI kosher genetically engineered smooth skinned hotdogs with legs for optimum aero gains in the TT.

Can anyone explain why the whole trek team got the same time? other teams' riders after their 4th finisher got own times
Realini!!!!
Realini's watts/kg must be insane given the TT bike is probably like 20% as heavy as her
I think he mentioned it was a flat course though...
Is it just me or does Gai Realini look like Bella Ramsey/Lyanna Mormont/Ellie?
Realini did a Gasparotto / Di Luca
0:16 Diarrhealini? 💩

Please comment on ANA (TOTA) MAGALHAES, from Bepink - Bongioanni!!!! she is from BRAAAAAAZIL
Realini can't even go on the timetrial bars :s
Never seen womens race this close. It used to be all over the place. I guess the overall level is more even now.
Those helmets. Won't anyone think of the children?
No womens LBL recap?
It was on the podcast a week ago.
That’s the excitement people wanna see In womens sports. 😂🎉🎉🎉🎉
Who said women can't drive?
teammanager lidl-trek..... k.ck some as.
I'm just happy that banana-helmets didn't win
2024: When you put all your player points on speed and none on control and wonder why your player is always crashing.
Disc brakes in a TTT just BEGGING for crashes. 😂
Why do they nurse the protected climber like this? In group rides you just take a short pull and rotate
Because they are their gc leaders and risk being dropped if they pull
A pedal strike seriously? I thought this was professional racing how do you even do that? Why did she have to risk it and pedal on the turn
completely unnecessary.
