It depends very much on which age the masc transitioned to femme. Depending on when a person could transition fully, and pay for the full transition, those of modest means have a harder time of it until they are older.
The previous generation, who are already middle aged, or in their 60's, masc to femme, struggle a bit more with body image, and passing effectively.
Since the age of 18, is the legal point when a young person can consent to more radical, and permanent transition, it's usually very effective.
Also, the actual body TYPE of the person makes a difference too.
But hormones, and living in the other gender as early as advisable is better for the transition to be more complete.
You raise a fair question, but that's the reason why.
As we speak, states across the country are creating laws to ban transitioning at all, and based on misinformation and bigotry.
Which will only make the process unobtainable when it's best to start.
Nothing worse than laws based on fear and ignorance, instead of actual facts and scientific results.
Masculinity seems harder to physically reverse, however women who trans do not hang about male toilets/ changing rooms with ulterior motives, men on the other hand, not all, are using it for creeping on females of all ages.
Or is it that you readily see/hear some people who are not 'doing' their chosen gender well? I think the people you are seeing who seem to be trans-women are just not doing the women thing very well. (Vica versa for trans-men.)
Surely there are trans-women who are transitioning so well that it no longer occurs to you that they might have once been men? I've met one such woman, before she was finishing the trans process and I would never have been able to tell she was born male if she had not told me.
A lot of it has to do with the voice box and its size. That's usually where you notice the difference first. There are some hosts on YT channels who have never mentioned being transgender but sound like the opposite of their appearance. I was really confused with some of them at first and thought they might be putting on a cartoon-like voice until I realised that this is what some Americans actually sound like! I no longer judge people by their voices.
I've met quite a few cross-dressers (NB not the same as trans but the example still applies) over the years (at some funky parties put on by some very open-minded friends). Some cross-dressers made a real effort to get into the character they wanted to be. Others looked terrible. Cross-women whose makeup was awful and hadn't shaved anything and had dressed really badly. (Just the same as the rest of us! Ha!)
Until boys and girls hit puberty they actually have almost the same body strength, endurance and stamina. So many just don't realise this still. It's society (and mostly parents/grandparents or other parents at school) that encourage kids to act or feel like a certain gender. And they also make them feel 'wrong' if they are not dressing/acting like their born gender and this is often reflected in the way their kids tease these other 'wrong' kids. It's unfortunate that after puberty so much in our bodies change, including upper strength differences for men and women; and much lower strength and stamina women have when they are menstruating.
Everyone has the right to dress and act and talk in the way they feel is genuine for them (so long as it's not nasty or inciting others to be hateful/cruel, etc). I actually don't think some people would feel such a deep need to try to make themselves seem more acceptable as one gender or another if we accepted them exactly as they are REGARDLESS of their gender.
We're all different types of people who all have our own struggles along the way. Accept people as they come; whatever they want to wear; however they want to do their hair and makeup.
See the REAL person WITHIN and get to know THEM individually. If we accept and value people individually I think there'd be a lot less trauma and people feeling the need to change anything. They could be just AS THEY ARE and still be BEAUTIFUL and WHOLE within themselves if only the rest of us were willing to see them deeply and genuinely.
It's time for us all to stop being so superficial and judgmental. There are tonnes of people all over the world (particularly on social media) who spend so much time on their outward appearance and having all the right 'things' in their lives. There's nothing wrong with wanting to appear well, healthy, presentable and have some nice things. But imagine the difference in the world if all these people decided to CULTIVATE their MINDS just as much or instead of things which don't last for long? Imagine if we all focussed on the things that are really important for the longevity of our humanity and planet? Imagine people working really hard to be better at how they think and value others? Imagine people valueing integrity and honesty above appearance and ego? Imagine what a change could be made that goes far beyond gender-reassignment?

If the birth of a child happens, then the birthing parent definitely has a Uterus, Ovaries and Fallopian tubes -- a woman. Cutting off your breast and taking hormones to grow muscles does not make you a man. They are living a lie and there are, obviously, people in their lives helping them to live that lie. But despite my opinion, I really am not bothered by this. I could care less what a grown adult does with their life. Their choice does not physically hurt me. But I draw the line when this is done to children. That is purely insane. Even if a child really believes this crap, they can wait until they are of legal age -- an adult -- to mutilate their body. Your years as a child are nothing compared to your years as an adult. A drop in the bucket. If by the time you are a grown adult, you still feel the need to do this to your body, then go ahead. Despite the 'success' stories out there, there are many who have regretted doing this and have committed suicide because of it. Perhaps had the people in their life made them wait, they would have gotten past their confusion and adjusted to being what they were born to be. And I believe any doctor who would begin this process on a child, has got to be pure evil and do not get me started on my opinion about a parent that would allow this to happen to their underage child.

Sonny and Cher brought her every night they came out to close the show once she was about one. But when he "came out" he was fully supported by his parents. I agree that people, mostly, are born with a certain DNA. I also agree that no-one should encourage people to think about changing themselves based on a feeling. But see my comment posted a moment ago for a fuller explanation of the following:- I think the fundamental reason people don't feel 'right' in their bodies is because we put pressure on 'girls' and 'boys' to act/feel/look a certain way. If we took away that pressure and accepted people for WHO they are (not HOW they look or behave) I don't think we'd have nearly the same amount of people wanting to change their gender.

You can't believe that we are different. Even in flowers and other animals there has been confusion. Some people are born with both male and female organs. Did God screw that up? It is an anomaly, but not unheard of. Aside from all of that, does your identity make you good or bad? These folks aren't hurting anyone. They are the people who live with the consequences. I can't imagine thinking that I am in the wrong body, but if it happened I can't imagine the struggle and pain (unless you have a supportive community).

Yes, God is our creator, but other things factor in as well. I’m very concerned about all the chemicals in our environment. These chemicals affect us in different ways and we have no way of knowing what cocktails of these chemicals are doing to our bodies. The most vulnerable are the brains of fetuses. I would not be surprised at all, if all the chemicals we are exposed to are wrecking havoc with the brains of fetuses causing things like gender dysphoria.

I know that some people say that gender is seperate from sex and means basically gender roles but I have never before heard anyone claiming you can change sex too.

They have bigger and stronger heart, lungs and bones and bigger limbs and body parts etc. They have male genitals and their pelvis is not wide like women's pelvis because men don't have uterus and vagina and they can't get pregnant and give birth. Even if you legally change your gender, your medical info shows your real sex so that you can be treated based on your body and not the identity.
Doctors can make so called neo vagina and neo penis but they don't work like normal genitals and they are made from different tissue. In organ transplants receiver and doner are almost always the same sex because genes are important in it. Few doctors overseas say that they could experiment switching genitals between transman and transwoman, but I haven't heard anyone volunteering for it. Few women have gotten donated penis and testicles surgically attached to them but after some time their body rejected them and the genitals had to be removed. Most transpeople don't change their genitals because the results wouldn't please them.
In future the medicine is likely more advanced in all medical fields.
They may look male, but they're still really females, regardless of the hormone treatments & operations. So the guy giving birth is still really a Female.

There is a thing called phsychology...the study of the human mind. The study of physiology, the development, abnormalities. Many thing can alter thought that can become dangerous. There is zero chance that a person born male or female feels they were born in the wrong gender without evidence.
1. A Hormonal imbalance. Carring more male/female hormone proving thus human was born in wrong body. Not likely out come as there is always a medical reason why there is an imbalance. Such as malfunction of the pituitary, thyroid and other glands that distribute hormones through out the body producing what is necessary to keep said body healthy.
2. Human kind has seemed to need to "control" everything. The attraction between the opposite and same sex has been part of human development since the creation of human kind. There have been documented catostrophic events that have nearly wiped out human kind. Yet there are still humans that attract to the same sex.
3. Now when a human finds gravitation towards harming the self or others. This is not a positive path. Self mutilation, trying to find acceptance by being more male or female to make having the attraction to the same sex seem "normal" or what is said to be "normal". Can lead to inapproprate conduct towards the self and others. Being tormented, harmed physically or emotionally for some can lead to escalated behavior. Then behaviors leading to the belief that one should have been the sex opposite to what one was born. Other psychological aspects can be the mental disorder of a parent. A brutal assult. A brutal childhood. There are so many psychological aspects. I will pray for all humans, for our Mother Earth, Our Universe. As all in this together. Be still

The only one that I knew about was Chastity Bono..when she was a little girl and appeared on TV with her mother, prior to transitioning, which was many, many years later.

I think it was a Feudian slip, because a female can NEVER become a male; every cell in her body contains XY chromosomes. Same with men. You can cross-dress and multilateral yourself, but you cannot change from a woman to a man or a man into a woman. I have nothing but compassion for transgender people.
I don't understand why other people oppose them. My sister was born with Down syndrome. Most people have compassion for people who are like my sister. My sister lived a terrible life. She was severely handicapped and didn't even develop enough of a vocabulary to have even a simple conversation with anyone her entire life. She had to be cared for by our family from the time she was born until her death at age 58. She never learned to read or write. She was completely dependent on our family for her care. She was not able to live independently. We loved her and took good care of her, but none of us would have wanted to live that life. I wish everyone would have compassion and respect for transgender people and all people who are born with differences. Let them live the best life they can. They know what they need. You don't!!
