  • WHY THERE IS OIL IN SPARK PLUG WELL, ENGINE MISFIRE FIX
    If you have oil in spark plug well / oil in spark plugs well in this video we will explain what can cause you to have oil in the spark plugs and how that can lead to engine misfire. It is very common to see oil in spark plugs on an older car or a car with higher miles. This is due to the fact that gaskets tend to age and often the oil in the spark plugs is cause by failing valve cover gasket. We demonstrated how the spark plug well was full of oil on this car and this was causing engine misfire and you can get multiple misfire codes any thing from P0300 to P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 on a 4 cylinder engine. We were able to fix the oil in spark plug well and the engine misfire by putting new valve cover gasket.

    I saw a clever BMW tech on a video take a sprayer out of a bottle like Windex and put the sprayer suction tube tip into the spark plug hole and he squeezed the trigger repeatedly until he drained all the oil out into a rag. Because the tip of the suction tube is small enough to go around the spark plug and take out all the oil there’s less oil at the bottom of the hole when you finally remove the spark plug. I hope this helps you guys.

    My elderly tenant was told she "Needs Engine". I asked what was wrong with the engine? That was all the information she had "Needs Engine" and it will cost $5,000. It won't start now and was misfiring before it quit...I decided to compression test it and went to remove the spark plugs and look at them and see it they had that nice tan color or not...I found oil in the spark plug holes exactly like this and when I took the plugs out, they looked filed out or points looked to be very dirty...I'm not sure if this will solve her starting problem but I'd give it a 80% chance...Her batt was down so could not do compression test...it needs 155-180 psi to be in speck per GM. I hate to see people get bent over...now, engine may have a problem, but we will see if I can get it started. Thanks for the good video, I had no idea why there should be oil in the spark plug hole. I'm not a mechanic, but know if you have compression, fuel, air, and spark the damn thing will run if timing is correct...you just have to hunt down any other problems after you get it running. It has exactly 100,487 miles on it and is a Buick Regal with the Ecotec 2.0L engine. On most cars these days that is not a lot of miles. I found out by accident the coil will pop apart and there is a mini fuse link inside of it and will test all 4 for continuity...just thought I throw that in, because I never in my life saw anything like it. The top of the coil will pull out of the rubber base and they you will see a miniature little fuse. Unbelievable when it fell out into my hand, I tested it and it tested good, now need to check the other 3. I don't think those mechanics even attempted to do a compression test...engine sounds quite and smooth when attempting to start it...I tried it a few weeks ago...her batt is dying because I had charged it two weeks about and it's now down again...she is going to need a new one. Watch out for Firestone and Goodyear throwing out some sweetner to get you into their shop like a $19.95 oil change...then, when they get you into their shops, they put the damdest sales pitch on you for what all was found wrong when they were changing the oil with the front end...;I swear they had me about convinced so I took it to another shop I knew who were trust worthy...Nothing wrong found! lol The Firestone man was such a good actor he would surpass most in Hollywood. Goodyear tried to get my dad like that back in 1970...my dad was too damn smart for them...lol

    I had a check engine light and the code reader said it was the ignition coil. I went ahead and changed the ignition coil, cables and spark plugs. When I was doing the work I saw oil on the spark plugs and wires. After I put in everything new the engine light came back on again. This time a misfire on all 4 cylinders. I put on the old cables and now reads misfire on cylinder 4? Is it the oil?

    Hello, I need some help. I have an 03 civic, I replaced the donut seals, cleaned the coil packs and spark plugs ( spark plugs were new) because some oil got in the wells. It ran fine afterwards but eventually the check engine light came on, and says it's misfiring on all cylinders. It looks dry in the wells with the new seals doing there job. So my question is why is this happening? I cleaned spark plugs off incase I didn't do a good job last time. Coil packs look good since I last cleaned them. I don't get it. Do I need to get new coil packs, and or spark plugs? Did the oil getting through it before ruin them?? Please someone help. I don't know what to do. Thankyou!

    I have a Honda Car with 1.3 IDSI engine having 8 spark plugs. The engine is powerful but the only center two spark plugs get really black after one week driving. I replaced old park plugs with new NGK spark plugs but the problem is same.
    Can you kindly guide which is causing this issue?

    • @BrianLiu
      @BrianLiu 2 года назад +1

      If the plugs are really black, it means that the fuel mixture in those two cylinders are rich, ie. it is burning more fuel than normal. This can be caused by a faulty ignition coil or a dirty air filter, however as it is just the center two cylinders, I would say its more of a spark issue.
      Check to see if it is the ignition coil by swapping the center two coils with the outer two, and if the outer two spark plugs turn black, then replace the coils.

    While BMW engines are great, their cooling systems have design flaws leading to overheat and subsequent oil leak, radiator crack, and ultimately engine failure. One such a flaw is the use of an unreliable coolant temperature sensor/fan switch and put at the top (hottest spot) of the engine. This is against the tradition of inserting such a sensor at the bottom of the radiator to detect coolant temperature after cooling off by the radiator, and worse yet the sensor may only detect the temperature of engine chamber air when coolant level simply reduced below the sensor. Many BMW cars failed at "young age" (my 2012 528i got engine oil mixed in the coolant reservoir within warranty period).

    ok, no one answer me but ill tel you how i fix mine...
    first my engine skip a bit for like 2 seconds as i was driving then a big missfire ensued then it backfire, engine turns off.... open hood look for anything admiss, find #1 and #2 well full of oil try to star engine to no abail. it will only backfire, had to tow the car to my house ( i only use mecanics to fit new engines or transmissions )
    my car uses GLP so i check everithing, vacum leaks oil put new well gasket and spark plugs. try to start engine and kaboom it backfire. now i'm like wtf, try many times and backfire. i take the rest of the day off to think about the situation. next day my mind is more clear and i can add up the numbers. skip a bit + missfire + backfire is equal to unmitered air, fuel air ratio or bad spark. so i allready look for air leak, fuel air ratio was good as i can control it, now the culprit bad spark, change spark plugs same no start, i had my old sparkplug cables and cap so i replace the new one with the old, engine start on fist try. so new cables went bad, why ? was it due to them been submerge in oil on #1 and #2 well, or it was pure bad luck .

    One further point after doing this a few times on Ford Fiestas ,do not bother just draining the oil out as a temporary fix ,always replace the gasket seal and then the spark plugs and most importantly replace the spark plug leads because once they are coated in oil for a while they become soft as the oil rots the material thus causing them to arc out etc .Gasket seal ,Gasket sealer ,plugs and plug leads ,petrol or white spirit to clean the rocker cover once off the engine and brake cleaner to clean the engine head oh and a nice little scraper to remove any old gasket sealer .2 hours should do you nicely but remember to let the sealer set for a while before starting the car up .Sealer is required at each end of the rocker cover over the curved part .

    The best way to clean those spark plug wells is to use a shop vacuum. Put duct tape on the end of the vacuum and then pop a small hole in the duct tape. Get a long drinking straw from McDonald's and stick the straw in the duct tape hole .just a little so it is attached to the tape and vacuum. Then turn on the vacuum and point the straw down in the spark plug wells and start sucking up the oil and other debris. I also use that method to clean other small areas and inside the intake ports and valves

    • @terrakoat
      @terrakoat 2 года назад

      Can you use that method to remove the oil that leaked into the piston?

    • @conormcgregor5460
      @conormcgregor5460 2 года назад

      @@terrakoat let's say you remove the intake manifold (I'm not talking about the (air intake filter box)
      I'm talking about the intake mani. So with the intake mani off 'the valves will be the only thing visible in those open ports that you will be able to get to for the most part.
      Also when you turn off your motor some valves will be slightly open and some valves will be closed . You will definitely be able to clean out some debris in the exhaust valves and the combustion port but even on the open valves however your engine stopped on the rotation you might be able to reach the straw down a little.
      if you get oil out from down under the open valves above the piston well I won't know, only you will know when you do the job, so while you suck just visibly watch the straw and see what you have getting sucked up.
      If you can get a clear straw you will definitely be able to get a good look at what your results are.
      Most likely you will get dry chunks of debris like I get when I do it to my cars or my friends cars. the straw might clog up a bit' just pinch it and it should break up the dried gunky debris and suck into your vacuum.
      As far as your piston area you would honestly have to take the valve covers off the intake off the exhaust manifold bolts off the motor and then remove the head to do piston cleaning with the motor block exposed and visible.
      What kind of car do you have and what engine?
      Honestly if I were you I would just remove your intake mani and vacuum out the exhaust valve ports and then run a bottle of fuel system and engine cleaner that you pour into your gasoline tank to finish off the job to help burn off the rest of the residues left over while driving

    • @conormcgregor5460
      @conormcgregor5460 2 года назад

      @@terrakoat if you had oil in the spark plug wells like in this RUclips video we are commenting on, and you removed the spark plugs and accidentally spilled it down the spark plug well area the oil will travel thru that combustion chamber, around your exhaust valves the ports above your piston heads. The amount of oil is definitely negligible and not enough to really cause any alarm I would try to suck up what you can get either thru the hole where the spark plugs were that you removed and also remove the intake mani if you want to really clean up some junk.
      But if you didn't spill oil down there and there is oil in the combustion chamber/ exhaust valve ports you definitely shouldn't have amounts of oil down there so you may have bigger problems if you have oil flowing above your piston heads right below the engines combustion point.
      That should all be dry naturally
