This one is good for drinking with beer around the campfire. Got 2 of my friends started on whiskey with this one. My friend that liked Jack Old no.7 switched to this and now drinks Rare Breed with me. I miss whiskey nights...I hope this pandemic ends.
It's good to here that the wether has improved and is starting to look very spring like in Edmonton and my relatives there are enjoying the wether also who I have passed on a recommendation to watch your vlog.My favourite Bourbon is Wild Turkey 101 which I gave the last quarter of a bottle to a friend who is a Scotch Whisky exclusive drinker who immediately went out and purchased a bottle. All the best Jon to you and your family.
I'm on my second bottle of Longbranch. I very much enjoy this bourbon, very smooth. I picked it up in the mid $40 range. You are right, the Rare Breed is extremely good, I quite enjoy my bottle. Thanks Jon, Cheers!
Neighbor Jon - as soon as I saw the thumbnail & title, the thought "on sale" came to mind....and you didn't disappoint!! I too enjoyed Longbranch. Found it a tad tame, but the bottle drained quickly! Good to see you out in the sunshine, my friend. It's a beautiful time of the year. Planning on the first dandelion harvest this week down here. 😅 Thanks for the review!
Great review as always sir! I just picked up a bottle of this and sipped while watching your review. LOVE this bourbon. It will be a staple in my bar along with the 101. Can’t wait to try the Rare Breed. Cheers!
Glad I found you! The last video I watched of you I kept thinking that you remind me of Marshall Dillon from Gunsmoke! LMAO very next video ends up being on the Longbranch! You gotta do an episode dressed like the Marshall! LOL thanks again for your company!
Hi Jon, what a decent content today! I saw an interview with McCaunaghey shared the concept of Longbranch. The goal was to create a quality dram that is nice neat, with ice, party time, etc, something like JD N7 but more solid. If you gave close to 4 stars it is totally WT's mission complete.
Great review, I tried the Longbranch whiskey one week before I saw this review. My personal opinion is, I absolutely love this Longbranch whiskey! It is a very smooth easy to drink bourbon. Has a very nice warmth that comes in slow and subtle. I think you will end up giving this a little more credit by the time you're done with that bottle.🤣
Great review John. This has been a hit and miss for people. I my self enjoyed it. Finished mine but haven’t gotten around to replace it but I will. This was created for Matthew’s palate. From what I got in interviews he wasn’t like us, huge into sippin. So the Russell’s guided him into something new and in the end created this. Which I feel is great for entry level and also bourbon fans (with an open mind). Cheers 🥃
Thank you for the video every time is see it on the shelf pass it by think ill grab it next time. WT 101 is my go to was wondering if long branch was worth the price being proofed down so far.
Thanks Jon , can never never go wrong on a wild turkey product in MHO! Those two are my two regular ‘go to’s “ they are great. The WT 101 is an absolute staple for me, having one right now as i type. Cheers and wonderful review.
Great review Jon, I really must buy that Rare Breed the next time I see it on offer been on my to buy list for too long. I wish they would put an age statement on the label 8 years old is a good age for an American whisky and would encourage me to buy it. Take it easy Jon, cheers.
Thanks. I agree, I wish they would lock in the 8 years. However, I believe they came out with 8 years, but didn't label it so they could change it as reserves allowed. I now bold, spicy Bourbons are not everyone's choice, but Rarebreed is certainly hitting the flavours I enjoy. Cheers!
Hello Jon. Great Review. I like you, held off from buying this one. However, there was a liquor store closing down in Grasslands, and they had 3 bottles on the shelf and I got them for 30% off. I cracked it to your review. Rare Breed is my go to Bourbon, so I wouldn't spend the money on Longbranch. At 30% off it was a good buy, glad I have it, but It won't replace Rare Breed for me.
I think I understand. It was better than I expected, but I can get Rarebreed at $45, regular price. It is so good and also versatile at that proof. Good over ice, great in cocktails, and bold when I want it straight. Thanks for sharing your thoughts here, and cool you got this for 30%off!
Again brother, we are aligned! What I enjoyed about the Longbranch was it was a more delicate WT product, but still very enjoyable. Yes, priced a tad high, but as you say, check for bargains. The Rare Breed, I also agree, is a no-brainer. It's my favourite Bourbon and a great price point for what you're actually getting. If I had to choose only one Bourbon to have ever again, it'd be the Rare Breed. Cheers Jon for another great review and here's hoping the weather there stays as good as your whiskey!
@@WhiskyNeighbour I second that. I hope it happens sooner rather than later. My wife has never been to Canada and I have been 5 times. She wants to go there based on my love of your country - so hopefully, once all this pandemic madness is well and truly over, we can make it happen. I'd truly love to share a few drams with you. Sláinte.
Enjoyed the review 👍 Haven't yet tasted any American whiskey/bourbon, so found it very interesting. Just had a quick look and over here in the UK, the Rare Breed is £49 UKP whereas the Longbranch is £38 UKP. I think I'll add these to my whisky wish list 😉
I hope you find the right time to enjoy some Bourbon. It is a shift from Scotch, and sometimes takes me a bit to adjust. Once in, there are some rich, spicy drams out there! Take care.
Hey John, thanks for the review! I’ve heard pretty mixed reviews on this. It is $60.00 (RB is $53) here because I really love WT101 & RB. I think I would have pulled the trigger if it was bottled at a higher abv and reasonably priced. Great looking decanter-style bottle. Have you started an infinity bottle? Keep up the great work!
Thanks. I have not started an Infinity bottle but I love the idea. I pick this up for $43 and at that price, it's worth it. Good flavour, just not as spicy or bold as 101 or certainly RB. Cheers!
Being a native Texan, I love both McConaughey and mesquite, but I'm like you - a bit suspicious of the overly-marketed whiskey. It's cool to see Longbranch held up as a decent dram, but thanks for comparing it to Rare Breed, a bourbon we all know is high quality. Keep up the great work, Jon!
You have such pretty eyes! Why don't you open them more? Also smile! God's given you a talent for whiskey reviewing so use it to spread happiness. God Bless, love you and your goatee.
I dont know if I got a faulted bottle but I find the taste of mesquite to be very very strong and I think its wierd nobody reviewing it mentions nothing about it. Of course its sweet but compared to other bourbons I think Longbranch tastes like drinking charchoal
I can get some on sale for $20 off so Longbranch is now $43:95 I've not been finding Rare Breed for less than $58 lately. I have seen Knob Creek 9 Small Batch for $39 lately. I love Rare Breed and even like regular WT as a mixer with ginger ale.... do you think it is worth it to try Longbranch for $43.95 or should I just get Knob Creek 9 again instead? I'm tempted to try longbranch but I don't want to end up hating it. I spent $50 for some Russell's 10 and was quite disappointed (guess Rare Breed spoiled me for a lot of whiskeys) I've heard people say it is waaay too sweet and should almost be a liqueur. Man I wish I could find Rare Breed for $39 again though
Totally agree ... where has the $40 Rarebreed gone! For my tastes, I would bring home KC 9. This is sweet. That said, it was not liqueur level. Easy drinking, but not as tasty or spicy as RB for sure
@@WhiskyNeighbour At the price, I had to pick it up just to try. I don't mind it but it is not my most favorite,. I definitely would go with Knob Creek 9 for $39 over this at $44 again. It has a bit of a musty note to it, I don't taste the mesquite but after a few minutes, the aftertaste does get a bit of that woody smoke but I have to look for it. it feels a bit watered down but still has a fair amount of flavor... Perhaps the smoke reminds me a bit of a smoky scotch... Oddly I think this was really meant to be more of a liqueur... if it was a bit sweeter, it could almost be an American Drambuie. I think I'd go with WT 101 over this at the same price and no way in hell would I get it for a higher price... I agree there are too many better options, but it was interesting to try.... it might be good to cook with though... not that I'd do that much but compared to some other bourbons it has a note I think would work
That is a big question. Overall, I think Elijah Craig 12 year is close to my favourite. That said. Right now I seem to like Booker's the best for caskstrength, and Eagle Rare is a very nice, easy drinking dram.
I get these 100 + proof bourbons and there great very challenging diverse you know serious then I try a normal one 80, 90 proof and it's good easy, Christmas is only once a year for a reason.
Well, I had a honey pot for Rarebreed. $30. Sadly it is no more so I may need to switch to WT101. Good and affordable. I picked up this Longbranch for $43 so, not bad. Great looking bottle, but the liquid is not exciting. Thanks for doping in !
I put very little to no weight into 'celebrity' pushed products. I do enjoy Wild Turkey products. Today (8/31/2022) the Longbranch is a special here in Oregon, so I will probably give it a try. Salude !

Great review once again. Only a 5 dollar difference in Ontario .
60 vs 65
RB is awesome.

i am grabbin a bottle...i have been wanting to try it...I like all the other turkeys..that rare breed is a favourite of mine too..cheers buddy !

@@WhiskyNeighbour Not yet. I saw it only once for 50USD. I follow your tendency and wait discounts ))
Big fan of Longbranch, it is one of my favorite bourbons so far. Smooth, tasty, little burn.
Certainly "smooth" for bourbon and easy drinking. Cheers
I still need to try Longbranch. Looks beautiful out there🙂. Great review Jon!

Longbranch is a nice first dram of the night, a way to settle into the evening before pouring a higher proof. I enjoy it.
A great idea. The favours are good, just relaxed!
