The Kentucky Headhunters are an incredible band! Always enjoy their music. Saw them live a couple of times- they can are amazing on stage. Also met them -such down-to-earth people.
I have never understood what this band is not a lot more famous than they are. One hell of a bunch of talent on stage and the drummer is one of the best in the business.
I think i can answer your question, so please allow me to elaborate.. As a drummer, song writer, lead vocalist and occasional mult- instrumentalist, i can say that the business today is a totally and utterly controlled, recycled, pile of sewage waste.. If you take a closer look, you'll realize that REAL talent and musicianship is almost non existent in the "big time" spectrum of the corporate controlled music industry.. Because of this, REAL musicianship , as these gentlemen so proficiently display, has an unfortunate shelf life within the industry, while piles of scrap bands such as Nickleback, and a whole slew of others get to be millionaires several times over.. This is not because they're talented, it's because they licked some seriously dirty corporate music industry ass, and fell into the trap of "Do and play what we tell you to play and write about, and you'll be wealthy and famous.. This is how they entrap potential future "artists" ( I use that term loosely ) in every genre of music.. The genre that's suffering the most now is Pop, R'n'B , Rock, Hard Rock and Metal.. Any bands or artists that are part of those genres who are actually talented, are ones that have been already established for more than 2 decades.. Yes, shitty music has been around that long, and even more so.. So you see my curious, and perceptive real music lover, this is how the music industry works.. It's all about who you know, who's ass will you kiss the hardest, how much will you debase and demean yourself just to get a recording contract, and for the fame and fortune that comes with it.. In other words, and i say this as a Christian, you'll have to sign a deal with the devil himself, or in this case, the brain dead minions that work for him.. With that being said, These dudes love what they do, are respected musicians, make a decent living doing what God himself put them on this earth to do, and have been doing it for years, and will continue to do so until the good Lord tells them it's time to retire.. The fact that they won a Grammy is testimony to their talent, and even though they don't need awards to show their talent, the Grammy's itself means absolute nothing, when you have crotch stains like Justin Bieber, or Lady Gaga winning Grammy's.. I'm pretty sure they know this as well.. Hope this clears things up for you my friend.. Cheers ! From the great white north country of Canada ;)
They don't make bands like this much any more. I hope the kids are paying attention - these kinds of bands are a dying breed and thank GOD that TKHH's keep rockin!
I have seen the Headhunters in WV but not recently. I am loving this show, and would like to see them live again before I die and join up with the Spirit in the Sky!!
These guys are really fun to watch. I have dug this band since the early 90's when I first saw them on CMT or some music channel during Farm Aid. Roots rock, country, blues, rock 'n' roll it's all there. I miss Rickie Lee Phelps on vocals, but they sound great. Doug Phelps makes that P bass look small.
Good wake up music for me today. Lived near Glasgow, KY for over a year back in the late '90s and used to see some of these characters around now and then....usually Wally World.
I sat here and suffered through this concert. Not the same band my granddaughter sang for Doug. I will always believe the Kentucky Headhunters the greatest band, but only their older stuff.
I've said it for years... The Kentucky Headhunters will make you do one of two things... go home and practice.... OR... quit playing altogether 'cause you'll never be this good! FRED YOUNG IS BADASSSSSSSS!
Fred Young one of the best percussionist ever~these New Yorkers do not know how to party~ Dullsville USA need firecrackers up their...........when they came out with WALK SOFTLY usually the crowd is going off....this bunch how boring! finally at the end of the concert they musta had a few more Bud Lites ;)
Very entertaining video for once the drummer is actually part of the show instead of just someone keeping the beat at the very back of the unlit part of the stage.
a good song gone bad, otherwise they were a great wild band back in the eighties, i still love their song dumas walker today! that one, oh lonesome me, spirit in the sky "kind of a gospelbilly one" and a fiew others.
Actually, the song is "Have You Ever Loved A Woman", first made popular by Freddie King and later for the rock world by Derek and the Dominos on the classic Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs album. The HeadHunters covered this song on their album Soul. This is a fact, and it is definitely the song in question.
When the Phelps brother left the band in 1995. They formed the Brother's Phelps. After a couple years, Ricky Phelps was the only one that didn't come back. But from time to time he will make a guest appearance with KHH.
Rhythm guitar player needs to let the bass player do the soulful singing. Those vox in “Have You Ever Loved A Woman” left a lot to be desired. Otherwise, they’re an immensely talented band.
2024mAke room for the Kentucky headhunters let these guy thru god bless. Dc
