Thanks! If everything goes to schedule, I should be going to Six Flags Great Adventure this year, so I'll also get to ride my first RMC which I'm excited about
Firstly let me state that this is for me, and possibly my build… I say every person in the world is built differently and different built bodies can have different results… I rode Skyrush for the first time ever last week (at 43 years old, and I am getting to the age where super stressful coasters may get cut off)… But, I did not find the restraints bad at all. It is also the most intense coaster I have ever ridden. I sat on a left wing seat on the front row. I did not feel any discomfort at all, and I actually enjoyed the “open” restraints. But, even with all that being said, I am weird in the sense that I actually LIKE to be stapled in on coasters. So, I actually tell ride staff “Please staple me bro” and they usually laugh as I am sure they hear the opposite all day…. So, in addition, I am a bigger guy.. I am 6 ft even and weigh 240… I am not necessarily “of larger size”, but I am bigger than the average person. With all of this being said, especially that someone 5’2” that weigh 110 soaking wet might have different experiences than me, has anyone else been stapled on this ride and had a “better” experience??? I am curious to see what people say about this..
I did a different way that was EXTREMELY effective. You have to look at the two main problems with the restraints. 1) They clamp down during the ride. Pretty much all intamin restraints do so this applies to a lot of them. But to avoid this, I recommend not giving yourself a ton of room as you leave the station. The restraint will clamp down once you hit that 5G turn and it's best not to give it room to build momentum before hitting your leg. So I pull it down to where it's touching my leg lightly. To avoid getting stapled by the ride ops, I just push one of my legs up against it so they can't push it down on me more and that seems to work. I've tried holding the thing up through the turns and I was able to do it but it took so much effort that it just ruined a lot of the fun for me so I don't like doing that. 2) Where they sit on your leg. I can see why people find it so uncomfortable, the thing touches your leg halfway down your thigh. This causes your whole body to move up AND forward during airtime moments because it isn't pinned down on your center of gravity closer to your waist like on most rides. So the edge of the restraint digs extra hard into one spot as opposed to the whole thing being flattened on your legs. This is where all the pain comes from. Putting your legs under the seat can work as a way to counteract this. By putting an upward force behind your center of gravity (your feet under your butt), your body won't roll forward over the restraint during the airtime. I actually did it a couple times and it did reduce pain. But as you stated, you don't get as much airtime. So I tried something different and it reduced pain and maintained all the airtime. Just scoot forward a little bit. If you sit like that during the ride, the restraint touches your leg closer to your center of gravity and it feels more normal. When I did this, the pain was like 30% as bad. And pain is basically impossible to avoid on a ride with airtime that strong. My legs also hurt after a few rides on El Toro and when I rode Steel Vengeance so I'm not just saying that. It also helps to lean your body forward as well. The more weight over the restraint, the better. Then I like to scoot back into the seat again on the brake run so I'm chilling comfortably waiting to enter the station. So if you do all that, you're left with restraints that feel decent and are wide open on the sides. They actually become good restraints. I bet if you put them on something less aggressive like a B&M hyper, they'd be praised for being so free. Floater doesn't hurt.
I rode Skyrush opening year, and just remember how tight the lapbar kept getting throughout the ride. It was painful sitting in the brake run like that. Hopefully I'll get out to Hershey sometime soon. I remember riding Steel Phantom at Kennywood very defensively so it didn't beat you up :)
So far this year i went to Hershey like 15 times and always go right for Skyrush. For me.... I reach for the stars and this prevents the weight of my arms pushing restraints down in the 5 g turn. I slip waist a little forward and put my legs out instead of folding them under and the restraints never hurt once even after back to back to back riding
I scooted up in my seat and slumped my back down on the back rest and then I was able to put my hands up and didn't get any pain on my legs at all (even on the wing seat), the only pain I got was the rattle and i could actually put my hands up on it! And that made me wanna ride it a lot more
I’m going in a couple weeks, I just started getting used to inversion coasters, and I’ve got thick thighs so any tip’s valuable! Thank you for sharing!
I tried this today and it worked!! I was in an inside seat first run of the day so it wasn’t running as fast as it can but it was the most painless ride I’ve ever had!
I scripted a “roller coaster bucket list video”, and I started scripting a “state bucket list video”. However, I need to finish recording those videos 😅
Another way to reduce pain on Skyrush is to put your closest leg to the middle of the car and scoot up a little in the station, you will have plenty of room and will prevent any stapling, as long as you keep your leg there, it won't hurt, so you could experience all the ejector airtime without pain. Can't believe I figured it out, but it works
i figured out how to not have pain... but...then Im not secured because I have so much space behind my back in order to get the lapbar to be closer to my hips rather than the middle of my femur
I bought it at Hersheypark Supply Co. (the big store located at the entrance/exit to the park) last year. However, because I bought it last year, I do not know if they still have it in stock this year.
Surprisingly it doesn’t hurt my calves when I do this. I’m not very scientifically/mathematically smart (I barely passed Physics class LOL), but when I ride with my knees bent I experience far less pain.
Can you elaborate on what the "thigh crush" feels like? I'm going to Hershey soon but I haven't rode a coaster in a long while, so when I think of "coaster pain" I don't really think of it that seriously. LOL.
Due to the intense ejector air time the coaster has, and the terrible lap bar restraints Skyrush uses, many people come off the ride with pain in their thighs. This is caused primarily when traversing over the air time hills, as your thighs slam into the uncomfortable lap bar. Some people get so much pain from this coaster that they end up hating what should be a world class coaster. Therefore I made this video to help riders avoid pain in the best way I've found possible.
I'm going to hershey tomorrow, and I'm really nervous because of these restraints. If I were to get stapled, wing seat, last row, how bad would it hurt at most?
It would hurt less than Vekoma over-the-shoulder restraints, but more than Intamin over-the-shoulder restraints. LOL Joke analogy aside; they are not doing assigned seating on Skyrush (as of when I'm writing this), so I would advise not sitting on a last row wing seat.
@Coaster Caleb I know not to, but I mean like if I were to, how bad does the pain get when you have all the causes at once. I just wanna kinda get an idea of what to expect at worst.
@@Zatoka. It's really not that bad, but my thighs hurt enough in a back row wing seat that I cannot ride Skyrush back-to-back. However, I have been able to marathon Skyrush when riding in front middle seats. So like I said; it's not too painful.

welcome to the coaster community hope you get to ride lots of rollercoasters outside of Pennsylvania

Welcome to the coaster community and I have to agree with this gentleman above ⬆️
I’ve heard great things about RMC’s
Now do “how to not get your shirt half way up your back on SkyRush”.
Also, the hat transition was clean AF.
SO IT WASNT JUST ME
Thats everyone who has ever ridden skyrush @@HHPYE42
Literally what I used to do was lean forwards after the first airtime hill and turn after that, but now I can do whatever I want and I get no pain

forget Skyrush, Wildcat at Hersheypark staples you during the duration of the course.

hershey park is amazing! also nice hat transition, also never ridden skyrush and candymonium scared mee
I love Hershey Park, and it's not just because I work there LOL. Also thank you!
I got stapled really bad in the back row. Thanks for the tips! I’ll be sure to use them when I ride it tomorrow

I'm glad to hear it worked! The inside seats are definitely less painful, in my opinion at least
You need to re rank your destination dream list. Florida definately needs to be number one

Nice hat!
Thanks!
Great advice man!
thank you!
😃👍
Hey do you have videos on knoebles?
I do have videos on Knoebles. I've made a vlog there, and I've also uploaded some footage of the coasters there!

Not a bad tip 😅
i figured out how to not have pain... but...then Im not secured because I have so much space behind my back in order to get the lapbar to be closer to my hips rather than the middle of my femur
When I rode sky rush I was on the outside and my legs hurt really bad but it was still my favorite
Outside seats are the most painful. However, they do provide the most intense ride, which is always more fun!
I got stapled on skyrush a few times and I thought my legs were gonna fall off lol it hurt so bad
Fresh hat swap
Thank you 😆
I see this after I go to Hershey
i rode the skyrush yesterday and tbh i didnt get much pain. on every ride i asked the operators to loosen the restraints and they did.
That definitely helps! If they’re crushing down on you’re legs it’s going to hurt no matter what 🙃
where did you get that skyrush hat?
I bought it at Hersheypark Supply Co. (the big store located at the entrance/exit to the park) last year. However, because I bought it last year, I do not know if they still have it in stock this year.
I want time went on skyrush and I almost Passed out It was terrifying
wouldn’t that make your calves hurt?
Surprisingly it doesn’t hurt my calves when I do this. I’m not very scientifically/mathematically smart (I barely passed Physics class LOL), but when I ride with my knees bent I experience far less pain.
@Coaster Caleb ok next time I ride skyrush I’ll definitely do this!

@@Coaster_Caleb Thanks a bunch.
@@mustard9808 No problem, glad I could help!
basically there’s a lot of intense airtime and the restraints are bad so your thighs press against them really hard, making them hurt

Just rode this 3 times.. just asked them not to staple me in and they didnt.didn't..
Where’s airtime thrills when you need him
He's hiding somewhere in the middle of America; visiting the most random parks known to man LOL
RIP my thighs (who in there right mind designed them)
Somebody show this to airtime thrills
