    Hi Kelly,
I am from the Oregon Coast, most seafood stores will give you ice to transport. Also it is illegal to take female crabs in Oregon, so what they sold you is correct. Cooking crabs with Myrtlewood leaves is a tradition on the Oregon Coast, Old Bay is awesome.
Those are some really nice crabs, crab is my favorite food, you are what you eat...
Glad to see you are having a good time.
P.S. The ducks were Mallards, the males (drakes) have the green heads. The geese are common on the west coast, they are Canadian Honkers.

you need to boil Dungeness crab in saltwater. actual ocean water is best but you can add salt until it tastes right. i personally don’t use old bay on Dungeness. they taste perfect so why mess with that by adding spice?
and you need to make sure the crabs are submerged in the boiling water. also when you take the crabs out of the boiling water you need to put them immediately into ice water to stop the cooking process.
nice to see you traveling to the NW. love your content.

The geese are Canada Geese, otherwise known as Canadian Cobra Chickens. Try and approach them and you'll see why they have that name - they will attack you. The green head ducks are male Mallards and the brown ones with them are the females. Great vid as always!

Kelly hi . I am from spore. Our best crab comes from Sri Lanka. When it arrives by plane there are on average only 3 to 4 twin shell crab out of 2000 crab. They are very expensive. These are crabs that are to shed their shell in order to grow bigger. They are always hiding. Before shedding their shell they have another shell hence the name. You threw it away . The yellow stuff is a delicacy. Thanks for reading

If you were to pop the back shell off the crab and clean them, into the two halves, they will last on ice. We always clean ours before cooking them up here in SE Alaska. You can fit more in the pot and you don't have to worry about PSP possibly being in their stomach organs and then in the pot you cook the most in.

Kelly, this is a spice combo I designed in chef's school. I call it Magic Spice, cause it's good on just about everything. I put it on fish and smoke them, although I've never had the opportunity to put it on crab. The number represents the number of scoops of each item. The bigger the scoop, the bigger the yield.
    3 salt
    3 blk pepper
    3 gnd garlic
    2 thyme, gnd or leaves
    2 dill weed
    2 powdered mustard
    2 celery seed
1 crushed red pepper (like you'd put on pizza)
Stir it all up, making sure to crush all the lumps of garlic which always seems to be there and season to taste.
I put a good amount on pork chops and use it as blackening spice, too.
Hope you try it. I ran a restaurant for 23 yrs and never had a complaint.
All the best to you and yours. Chef Scott

Wow! As a Polynesian, I was taught by my dad and my grandfather that nothing goes to waste from the ocean, the juices from the carcass and butter would make a great sauce. The only thing that should be tossed out, are gills and the shell, everything else is eaten guts and all.
Also, NO seafood should be washed in fresh water, fresh water taints any seafood.
If you ever get the chance of collecting sea water from the sea, grab it with both hands.
Trust me, its the ONLY way to prepare seafood, weather its fishing, crabbing or anything related to the sea.
As a seafood lover myself, and by the way, Im not a great fan on red meat, I won't have it any other way.
    Love the vid.

Kelly you can catch them or buy them live and then tear their back off, clean them, break them in half and then put them in the boiling water. It takes a lot less water and a lot less time. Then don’t forget after you eat the meat out of the legs that you can eat the meat out of the body it’s easy to pick it out, you just use the pointy tips on one of the legs to dig it out. There is more meat in the body than actually in the legs

I'm in BC and we go crabbing off a local pier. We mostly catch Red Rock crabs and I cook them in fresh sea water. (I bring the water to a boil while I'm quickly killing and cleaning the crabs. I don't like to drop them in boiling water alive.) And of course we're only allowed to harvest males. I went to the Oregon DFW and see that you can harvest female Red Rocks and the limits there are WAY higher! Where I am, the daily limit is 4 crabs/license TOTAL.

In Louisiana we cook a hamper of craps in large 35 gallon boiling pot. I like to use Zatarain's or Louisiana Seafood Boil, I like Louisiana better because it has no gluten. It comes in liquid, bag spices or powders, I like the the liquid and a few bags. We also put 1-2 boxes of salt depending on how salty you like the crabs, we add about 12 lemons cut in half, we put about 6 onions cut in half and 1 large celery quartered. You bring everything to a rolling boil so the components can blind and then you drop the crabs in it. You boil anywhere from 12-15 minutes depending on how many crabs you have. After they boil you let the water cool, I use a hose on the pot some will drop ice in the boil, when you cool them down it draws the spice into them. I think you know Nicole Spence that little Coonass could show you for sure what to do and get you the stuff.

Kelly it is your choice but I have cooked these crabs for many years. The best way I found is with butter and garlic. Either way you want to remove the entire shell first, get rid of the guts, gills, and clean the inside. Several ways to clean are to use my preferred method which is to grab the legs and with a hard and swift hit (on the underside of head) on the edge of a 5 gallon bucket. This is fast and humane and the shell comes right off. The other way is to pull the male part back and pull the entire shell off. Add your spices, wrap in foil and put on BBQ for an awesome dinner.

The entrails and offal will be thrown out. Rip off the front little bits of face left over and the operculum from the bottom. Then just rinse out in the water and eat.

I was born and raised in Portland Oregon. I moved to Virginia in 2019. Barnacle Bills was the place to go if you couldn’t get anything out at the sea. If you can go to Mo’s Seafood Restaurant. Get the Clam Chowder Bread Bowl. Or anything there. It is a staple
You’ll really enjoy the West coast. But politics suck 😂😂

You are correct. All are male crabs. The apron, as it's called, indicates if it's a make or female crab. The male aprons are always more triangular shaped. The female aprons are more rounded in shape.
    Those are all Canadian geese.

Kelly, it is pronounced Or-e-gun. You should come back in the summer (Aug) for some warmer weather. (Fall mid to late Oct) is when the Chinook Salmon run. That is something you need to do. get a local guide in Tillamook about 43 miles North of Lincoln city or 85 mi west of Portland take Hyw 6, some of the largest Chinook on the west coast run there. The trees are Douglas Fir mostly. Definitely NOT the largest trees in Oregon! Next time you go to Salem go 20 + miles southeast to a park called Silver Falls State Park Early spring or early fall is best when the falls are running good. cool but great for the Hike to see 10 Awesome Falls, some you can walk behind! count on spending 2 days to hike the North and South falls. Love your channel💖

Barnacle Bill’s is a must stop for the spiced prawns when we visit the coast which is often. Usually we go crabbing ourselves on the boat. We clean our crabs before we cook them and steam them in a few inches of salt water. Pretty much any way you do it they’re going to be delicious. Oregon has a lot of coast line to explore. Hope you have a great trip and bring everyone back to enjoy the Oregon bounty :)

I lived in Astoria for about 20 years...the coastal drive north is amazing and worth a road-trip. There's a beautiful park in Warrington for biking/razor clams and providing you could get tags, the Saddleback Mt. range is great for bow hunting Elk.
There's a Oyster processing plant just North of your location (Garibaldi?) that I worked on...and they had the Spruce Goose airplane in display just north of Tillamook.
Try some Sturgeon fishing if you get a chance(Astoria) and have fun! 🦀🗻🌲🦌🌲🦉

Hi Kelly , it’s pronounced Orygun, and those are Canadian geese , .
You should add salt to the boiling water to mimic ocean salt. Leave the old bay for blue Crab . Not dungeness . Thanks for what you all do . Steve

A little like fish out of water the Florida girl on the west coast. You need to walk the Piers in San Francisco during crab season. They cook the crab fresh right in front of you. Also to see some really big trees explore the red wood forests on the west coast like Muir Woods ] of which 240 acres (97 ha) are old growth coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens). You would be blown with these spectacular trees.

Dungeness imo, are the BEST crab far and beyond! and, here in Kentucky we don't need a rodent with a shadow to tell us spring is coming, we have V formation flights of the Canadian Geese flying north(occasionally hitting your fishing rod while landing in the lake for a break..lol) FUN video as usual! Thank you!!
