Perfect job with the cost of food. The Video is very informative 😀😃😄
Prices might vary if you buy at PriceMart/Costco. But you are buying in bulk. Many expats in the city as well as in the countryside group together and buy in groups. But you never know what is going to be in stock there.
Hi Anita. That’s true! They change stock and don’t keep offering the same goods. Thank you, 😊 for watching.
This is probably the most thorough list of food video I’ve ever seen! Good job! I don’t recall seeing eggs. Did I miss it?
I think so JB. In any event, they're cheap and good. As I recall around $1.60 a dozen....roughly.
4:45 you can ask in the "embutidos" section from different types of bacon at different prices, and it will be a fresh cut "deli style" they will weight it and you'll know the prices and you can ask them to add more or take out cuts If you want. I'm a Panamanian born and raised and that's how I buy cold meats and cheese.
GREAT to know. Thank you Angilberto.
Your video was extremely useful we going Panama next month, thanks again❤
In US you have to pay with gold your food
Good job
Thanks for your comment. Please subscribe if you will. We're returning to Panama later this month and plan to post more videos.
Duran is a Panamanian brand
Thanks. We have been brewing Duran coffee and it’s pretty good!
I'm told that fresh fruit and vegetables are much cheaper when you buy from stands on the street. Buying in the Boquette area will be much fresher too. The same applies when you buy seafood from the boats at the beach which was probably caught hours before.
A lot of street vendors in Boquete have jacked up their prices to take advantage of gringos, sometimes higher than the supermarket. Street vendors are amazing down in David & other small towns in panama though.
Yes you are correct for the most part, especially in towns less touristy, and shops more local.
I was in Bocas del Toro at a restaurant that had tables on the dock where the boats would arrive with the fish the guys just caught and I could see fish 🐠 swimming below the dock where we were sitting. I joked with the waitress that I wanted that fish I just saw floating by and she said the fishermen would get it for me and I could have it for lunch 🥗. That was one time my joke went over really well in my not so good Spanish. I have been practicing over twenty years since so my jokes are doing even better. 😂😜
Well I like your fresh fish story. 😂
Wow...just wow.@@JuanMoreno-wo5yb
Duran café is Made in Panamá is a panamenian brand.
Figured that out after our first visit Patricia. Excellent coffee after we got used to it.
Local panamenian here. Panama city is stressful and expensive. Most foreigners love coming to Boquete in Chiriquí province and even move there, one the best weathers and places. On the other side of Panama's highest point, is Volcan and Cerro Punta(other alternatives for foreigners who dont like Boquete being crowded). Cerro Punta is Panama's BEST FARMLANDS and the cheapest and easy ways to buy vegetable.
Also people in those highlands are more happy due to open spaces, nature, tourism, cheap, accessible, chill, very low crime, good police presence anyway. Visit those towns.
You are so right, hermit. We did a video on Volcan and Cerro Punta. Liked that area a lot, especially the closeness of all those farms in Cerro Punta.
@@laptopseniors Remember the last strike in interamericana due to increase of gas? Panamá running out of food, and Chiriquí running out of gas but high on food; and people cant eat gas xD
Eggs are 6.25 to almost $8 a dozen in Canada now depending on what you choose
As a 1/2 the year Torontonian, I feel your pain on eggs....and LOTS of other stuff too. Only a month or so ago lettuce was $6 a head at Metro.
I went to Super Carnes in Penonome and bought 30 jumbo eggs for $3.49.
@@hornitosendero wow. That’s amazing!
Love your channel ❤️
Thanks Marcela!
Well the price are higher at Riba Smith supermarket and did you take these photos just after the summer protest in July 2022? Prices for local fruits/vegetables were higher in Panama City wide.
We took those in Sept 2022.
Be open to local brands and you’ll save money.
hi. yes true 😁
The egg on Panama is good here on texas is on $5.00 12 egg docen 24 egg is $16.00dollars
Hola Maribel. 😊 thanks for watching.
Good video. I am a block from a Rey in Panama City. Look forward to seeing more of your videos. The ribeyes looked pretty good. Hitting PriceSmart tomorrow to see if my Costco card will be accepted.
You're Costco card most likely will not work in PriceSmart. If you see a Riba/Smith, go in there too. We found them better than Rey.
@@laptopseniors Thanks for the reply. Haven't seen you since applying for my ecedula in Panama.
@@laptopseniors You know I had to try the Costco card. I had to purchase a PriceSmart Card and they do have a lot of meat: not as good as Costco, but worth the card. Love your channel.
@@sweetdragon36067 Would have done the same.
@@sweetdragon36067 finally getting time to edit and post new vids.
Thank You.
You're welcome
Nice video, it was very informative, thanks for that
Hi. Thank you for watching and your kind comment. 😃 We appreciate you.
Large cup of Fresh squeezed OJ $2 from the vending machine in Andrés Bello park, Via Argentina, El Cangrejo, Panamá!
It’s great! 😁
This one of the most expensive Supermarket in the Country so its NOT repesentative of Average prices.
Agreed. Looking for special gluten free and organic sit seemed more likely to carry them.
You can see by most items selected, Americans living in Panama, expect to eat American.
The local brands are pretty good.
Yes, the more we're here the more we end up using. Especially cookies and spaghetti sauce. Who knew?
Yes, keep discovering all the good stuff for such a good deal. Cookies are sooo good in Panama 🇵🇦 their brand so delicious, my son love it all. Ice cream 🍦 are so delicious too. Some made from fresh fruits.
Yes, keep exploring all the good snacks. And yes cookies are super delicious. Food also. It is always good to try and keep trying and before you know it you will find a lots at items to your liking. I always like to try new things when it comes to food and seasoning etc.
The el extra supermarket is cheaper
Yes you’re right. We didn’t realize the local markets sell so many products that we consider more specialized. 👍🏻😁
That gluten-free free pizza is also non-dairy. Daiya is a vegan "cheese" company. So that's another reason that particular pizza was so pricey.
True. Daiya is unfortunately higher everywhere.
Imusa pans are probably from Colombia. The chips and stuff like that usually comes pretty smashed. Bad handling by the freight handlers and the supermarket staff. Sadly!
That’s disappointing! Thank you, 😊 for watching.
Did you prefer Argentina or Panama? My husband and I are researching both. Could you please do a video comparing both places?
I'll gather up our Buenos Aires video and do one for you. As an answer, we LOVED BA. But, some areas aren't safe and pretty sketchy, even in a big city like buenos Aires. Although we never experienced a problem. And it's not really a very stable country, especially their money. Their politics makes US politics look quiet and friendly. You wouldn't want to have to have all your money in AR currency due to living there. Lunacy. But...if you can manage to live there yet keep all your money out of Argentina, then their continually falling peso will make your life exceedingly cheap. I'd say this; for having an exciting and amazing life living in a vibrant city and country, Argentina would win out. To live a great life in safety, serenity, with friendly people all around. It'd be Panama. And...a big one....Argentina gets cold in summer (their winter).
@@laptopseniors We are just looking for a good place to escape the winter in Alberta. -40 C is a bit too much. We are looking forward to your video. Please identify how we can locate the safe places to live. Thank you!
@@HJones-pi5bs I know your pain since I lived in Calgary for 4 years. We're about to head back to Panama and go one end to the other hitting as many places as we can. So hopefully we'll answer your questions. Generally though, it's pretty safe all over Panama. The bigger questions are climate, small vs big town, rural or city, expats or locals, beach versus inland etc.
We considered Uruguay for a hot second. It's so far south that a tickets to fly to the corner store are over $2K. They also have cold winters, something we're trying to avoid. They're also in a horrific drought right now. I mention Uruguay because it's in the same region as Argentina, and these would be problems here too. Great beef in both countries, though. :)
One of the several reasons we are looking into Panama is water. Even thought there's a drought right now, it gets more water than other regions. Also, I'm not sure abt what I'm about the say, but it seems to me that Panama relies heavily on rain and doesn't gather it in reservoirs. Their fields aren't quite irrigated, and rely 100% on the rain. A little infrastructure would help relieve this water problem. Having said that, the air has a lot of water, and we're considering getting an atmospheric water generator if we do decide to move there. It draws water from the air. Great little invention!
Where are you living now? My wife and I are looking to make the move by this time next year. Looking at the Coronado, Ensenada Beach area.
At the moment we're in Boquete. Just left Coronado after weeks in Panama City. We're looking for that perfect place. So far, Coronado is pretty sweet. Definitely a choice. Others we ruled out and we'll show you them and tell you why soon in some new videos. BTW...if you want a good size city with not many expats, Penonome and Santiago looked pretty good to us on that front.
I have been studying the Cocle District. Looking for a quiet place so probably will have to be a little out of town. Up the hill from Penonome is definitely an interest. Appreciate your videos. Very well done!
Wow , the price is not good, but last December I went to Panama city colon, the food place in the farmer’s market is lot cheaper.
Yes true. This is a more Americanized store.
Diet time!!
Lol 😂
My wife and I are planning to move by this time next year to the Coronado area. Been watching videos about Ensenada Beach Resort. Do you know anything about it? We want to start out on the beach first. Planning on a permanent move. Also since you have been in Coronado, where would you rent long term if you were going to move there? Thanks for your help. I have the Panama Relocation Guide--very helpful.
Hi Barry, don't know about Ensenada Beach but Coronado is very nice. We've been there 3 times now. The first two we didn't like it. Third time gave us a completely different view of it all and turned us around. No idea of where to rent from yet though. As for living on the beach, that'll be a problem. There are BIG BIG (as in expensive) homes on the beach and they close off the beaches with their land and gates. So it's actually difficult to get to the beach given those houses unless you're in one of those big high rise condo buildings on the ocean. Then, easy.
@@laptopseniors You might want to google, Ensenada Beach Resort. There are tons of videos of this guy and the rent is from $1,200 to $1,500 right on the beach with beach access . . .but don't rent them all!
Thanks Barry. We'll check them out when we go back to Coronado in a couple weeks.
Wow 10.50 for strawberries that is higher than Canada in February for half greenish white and pinkish strawberries
Canadian import strawberries are never really red until about summer time from USA
Out of season locally those were imports. Imported food, or anything really, is more expensive than the local products.....which are actually very good.
Strawberries from street vendors are much, much cheaper.
Juice is almost 6.59 to 8 dollars depending on how much REAL juice you want and less crap in it
Excellent point on quality. Thanks.
The food on texas is too much Spencer and the medicene too expensive
How much is cheese 🧀
In kg
Can't remember now if cheese was in the video. I do remember that the prices generally seemed much like those in Florida and the local cheeses like Queso's etc seemed a bit less. They weren't crazy high unless it was an import like Sargento.
Slightly higher than the US.Queso blanco is the cheapest cheese in Panama.
I’ll check the market next time. I do know that the Panamanian cheese is awesome fried! Especially with pepper jelly on top. We had it first at el Trapiche and then started making it ourselves. The taste and texture reminds me a bit of cottage cheese but drier.
Hi JS. I took photos of all the cheese here at the RIBA Smith. What cheese would you like to know about?
It is help me.🍀🐐
Great.
thanks for watching.
The Rey is too much expensive I'm Panameña the supermarket 99 is very no to much Spencer and the extraterrestriale supermarket and albrook mall
Sorry El extra supermarket is cheaper
This video is Not representative of what you will pay if you live here unlies you just want to eat "Foreign" food wich is not very smart!!!! if you want to do that, just stay home!!!
True....In most of the areas of Panama City we were in, Rey and Riba Smith were the options. Here now in Coronado we hit El Machetazo Groceries. A NOTICEABLE drop in pricing and more local brands.
@@laptopseniors Great! Panama City has some Machetazo supermarkets too. It caters to the working (blue collar) class of Panama. Cheers!
