I just now realized that if you switch Kylo's first and last sith names and real names it becomes Kylo Solo and Ben Ren.
No joke though the Rush hour franchise review would be fire!
It is the most beautiful and visually movie. Saying that. I re-watched it a third time recently and I still don't like it. It has some great ideas but it doesn't fellow through in the end of the movie. For example. It would've been interesting if Rey accepted and join Kylo to create something new. Nope. Doesn't happen. Everything at the end of the movie goes back to square one. I still don't like Luke and how they handled his character. It's also disjointed from the previously movie. The whole trilogy is disjointed and messy. Also. Holdo story line is dumb. Same with space chase. Same with Finns story line. Lastly. Killing admiral Ackbar off screen will forever annoyed me. Dang. I have to stop because I could go on.
I was so IN of the concept of "Oh everyone can be with the force and ya ya ya" I loved this film, but then just all thrown to the trash with star wars the rise of skywalker
the fact people didnt realize that literally anyone could be force sensistive is glaring and tells me all I needed to know about that portion of people they wanted money from
I love how you guys says Poe is some no name. He’s the “best pilot in the resistance” and led the attack on Starkiller Base. He would be known by everyone.
Finn and Rose get caught and then supposedly find a guy that can do the same job as the guy they were looking for…sent there originally by Maz who is busy having a labor dispute. This movie is ass start to finish.
Yup, he's basically like Luke Skywalker in Empire only he's done a ton more battles and secret missions. To put him down as some flyboy idiot is outright insulting. Han is a general in Return of the Jedi, he just did a fly by at the Death Star, hell even Lando was a general. Poe being treated as he did made less than zero sense.
Idk, I felt much worse for the former slave kid who lost his mother than I did for Kylo.
Loving the revisits! TLJ is an OK film. It’s easily the best looking of ALL the films and I appreciate the attempt at taking Star Wars in a new direction. I really enjoyed the Luke/Rey/Kylo storyline (especially Luke’s demise) despite me not truly buying into the whole Luke/Rashomon stuff.
It’s the other plotlines that truly bring the film down as they quite simply don’t make sense with no real character development outside the aforementioned three (Finn actually dying maybe could’ve salvaged this for me).
Tbh the main issue with this film is the very vocal backlash. Regardless of whether this was the majority or minority or well-intentioned or not - the unnecessary hate led Disney to reel it back in and just play it safe. No new stories, no new ideas or concepts or themes - just old rehashing of old characters. This is most obvious in RoS but has bled into everything since - and it is the toxic fandom who are to blame.
TLJ played it horribly safe as well, they didn’t have the balls to give us something new and make Rey join Kylo Ren. It was a bad film
Regarding the "save the ones you love" comment... Finn was literally in the act of saving everyone he loves in the cave by sacrificing himself by destroying that machine. He wasn't about the beat the First Order with that move, he was just saving the ones he loved. Twice she stops him from saving people.
The film has stated multiple times Finn's act was a suicide mission -- it wouldn't have achieved anything.
@@Linny95 Finn sacrificing himself to destroy the machine buying everyone in the cave more time wouldn't have done anything?
Suicide missions and against all odds is what SW is. Scarif, Trench run, Exegol. Finn dying to let the Resistance escape would have been a better arch than how Disney used him anyway
@@vinced7618 Yes except the film literally told the audience Finn's actions would have been futile -- pay attention.
@@Linny95 And? Neither he nor Rose have any way of knowing that. It's irrelevant. You can't always know if your actions will have the intended effects, you still have to choose.
@@rylace What are you talking about? The characters in the film literally know what it is -- they literally are able to name it and understand its function in destroying the barricade. Were you paying attention?
I just really love the overarching lore of Star Wars so when this movie came out I felt like they forgot all about of the previous movies. There was so many examples of lore breaking/questionable decisions it’s hard for me to look past them.
I'm the same. Its make it really hard for the watch and enjoy this movie. I don't hate the movie. I just think it ruined and miss handled the story and lore.
Like people forces running in episode one then forgetting it for the entire rest of history.............. Star wars has always been sloppy. I still love it. But the hate this movie gets it ridiculous.
@@johncrichton8876 none compare to tlj tho. They literally wasted the 3rd movie trying to retcon as much as possible from that horrible movie
@@Chronz they didnt have to retcon it. That was a choice based on "fan backlash". The internet plays an outsized role in decisions sometimes. The Rise of Skywalker is bad not because of the retconing, it's badly because the story choices are not about the characters or the the story of, they are about the "fans".
There’s stuff I really like and it makes no sense , like never going dislike yoda coming in , but how does it work when Luke makes no sense
Caught part of it on TNT last night. I still like Last Jedi, it reminds me a lot of those old Flash Gordon shows I watched as a kid.
interesting. How so?
@@chisairaccoon1931 Its an entertaining adventure story that doesn't take itself too serious.
My biggest issues with TLJ are the two main subplots: Holdo/Poe and Rose/Finn/Canto Bight. I just felt they needlessly took away from the main part of the story which was the Rey/Kylo/Luke trio, I really enjoyed that. I wish they had given us more of that plot line than splitting the film into three plotlines because the biggest weakness of the Rey/Kylo/Luke storyline is that we get so little backstory to why Luke has deserted his family and friends, and why did Ben/Kylo turn to Dark Side.
I do agree that I think the film gets too much hate and too much praise. I think visually and performance, the film is good to great, but the writing and storylines are weak to bad. I still rank it among the bottom four of Star Wars films to me, along with AOTC, TPM and TROS but I do think that if Duel of the Fates had released, the entire trilogy would have flowed better than with TROS ending it. Also, still won't forgive Rian Johnson for cutting probably two of the best scenes of the film: Luke mourning Han and Finn calling Phasma out, if those two scenes had been left in, the film probably jumps up a point from a 4 to a 5/10
The main issue with the film is that it ends every story thread in the 2nd movie of a trilogy. It could have been pulled off if Rey took Kylo's hand at the end and started to train with him. That would have at least been a set up for the 3rd movie. Instead JJ Abrams had nothing to work with and the 3rd movie was set up for failure. The underutilization of Luke in both movies hurt them substantially. He needed more screen time, more dialogue, more interaction with the plot and fans would have been happy. JJ should have said no after Johnson gutted the story.
This movie is beautiful. Outside of that I don’t see many details where one can say this is a good movie. It being a part of a trilogy brings it down even further, which isn’t entirely its fault. Whole trilogy felt disjointed and lacking a clear idea of where they wanted to go. I wish they kept one director for all 3.
It looks fantastic, it sounds amazing .... and I absolutely despise the character development and changes ... and I hate how they handle the story on on every single point.
Please do a Rush Hour revisited.
Boys still waiting for the rush hour revisted please 🙏
I don’t think Kylo totally made up his mind after the Last Jedi. I think he was still conflicted. It made me think of how Zuko at the end of s2 first chose the bad side before he eventually turned good again.
I honestly have no idea how anyone sees any positives in this movie. Or even how people think this is better than Rise of Skywalker.
I’ve come a long way with this movie. Hated it for the longest time but I’ve come around to thinking it’s the best Disney Star Wars movie. Kylo bodying Snoke is one of the most epic twists in Star Wars. The canto bite stuff and the waste of Finn as a character does really drag this one down though
I’m in the same boat. Hated it soo much. But the shots , music and the passing of Carrie Fisher really resonates with me.I eventually like to watch it now with the perspective as Kyle/Ben Solo as the main character. The reason I initially hated it is they sell Mark Hamil and Return if Luke to us. But totally under utilize him and wrote him so unfamiliar. Just as with Obi wan now. Under utilizing Ewan and Hayden, yet they sold it as if this is a series about them with SW celebration and press packets and the story is not. It’s a rescue mission of lil Leia.
I have no issue with Keva, I think she’s an awesome new character. It’s the 2nd brother that is kinda dumb IMO. The main issue is that this is the Lil Leia show now when it could have been told in a 30 min episode in Bad Batch S2.
Just wasted potential that is part of the story now. That’s why people are disappointed. It’s only 6 episodes , yet their focus is off somewhere else except Ewan and Hayden. And unfortunately other characters are catching the heat for wasting our and the stories time. I guess one can say the whole Finn and Rose caught the same heat.
But I have actually come to really like TLJ now especially that ROS kinda fixed some things. Except for that DUMB ASS TRIP FOR THAT STUPID ASS DAGGER. Still till this day that is the dumbest thing I have seen in SW.
@@Nairb1007 dude if I could like this comment 50 times I would. I completely agree that the 2nd brother is incredibly cringe, Reva has not been bothering me too much. Haven’t seen many people with that take. But yeah the Obi Wan show is really bumming me out… I thought it was going to be a character study of Obi wan starring Ewan and Hayden but it’s not what they sold us.
@Xavi Campoverde they definitely had the effect of making me a little hyper critical of movies. I still love them though personally. Don’t always agree with them but they’re incredibly entertaining content creators
@@Nairb1007 dude that dagger subplot is the dumbest plot contrivance ever conceived in any form of media throughout all time 😂 that’s what I’d expect from JJ and the BvS writer though
My feelings on this movie unfortunately haven't changed much at all in the past few years. It's a fine sci fi movie that looks nice but it's a bad star wars movie. Coming from someone who didn't grow up with the films and isn't a big star wars fan, this still felt out of place and jarring for me and a lot of rhe decisions characters make feel unnatural and like they come from a script instead of natural character actions.
Also the Holdo/Poe thing. There had to be less than 400 members of that resistance at the beginning of the movie. There's no way Holdo doesn't know who Poe is and that he's highly respected by Leia, also "the best pilot in the resistance". He was either leading or one of a group of captains leading a bombing run, he's not some no name grunt. So I dont agree that it makes sense for Holdo to dismiss him like she does.
Episode VIII is my third favorite film in the Saga, but I still give it the criticisms that are due to it.
My biggest gripe (I have them with all of the films, even Empire) is that Rian tried to build a movie with three major A-Plots, essentially trying the film with three primary protagonists.
You had Poe's journey to leadership, learning what sacrifice was, and seeing the larger picture. You had Finn's journey to becoming the hero that people think he is, casting aside his own selfish needs and focusing on the galaxy at large. And of course Rey's journey of finding out who she is.
It led parts of the film to be so tonally different that it felt disjointed. Canto Bight was necessary for Finn's story (or should have been, it irritates me that Episode IX just made him less than a side character), but it was so tonally different than the rest of the film, it sometimes felt like being slapped in the face.
I have been waiting for this for SO damn long
Interesting review, I might have to watch the sequels again. I didn't like them that much.
I feel that actors like Mark Hamill, Hayden Christensen and Daniel Radcliffe for Harry Potter, it wasn't just about their acting ability, they were really believable as their characters and put a lot of effort to deliver that belief. They have made a lot of money for their franchises because of the input that they put into their characters and they have kept their franchises alive for decades and will do for decades to come. Obviously, other actors put a lot of effort in too. Hayden and Ewan trained for months to give us a few minutes of an amazing duel and so did Mark Hamill for his fight with Vader, and they do deserve respect for that.
George Lucas was so ahead of his time and such a risk taker. Casting Hayden was a huge risk, because he was a teenager and new to acting in a major film, but he was playing a teenager. I liked his awkwardness, it was quite endearing. Adam Driver is an adult man playing a teenager. You would expect his performance to be better because he is older and an actor that has had more experience. I love Adam Driver and I thought that his performance was great, but not believable, because that is not quite how teenagers are. Being moody doesn't make you a teenager.
In the film Titanic, Leo and Kate's performance was much better than Hayden and Natalie. I prefer Hayden and Natalie, they seemed to be much more their age. Rose is meant to be 17, younger than Anakin and she acts way older than her age because Kate Winslet was grown woman playing a young girl. I actually prefer Kate and Leo in Revolutionary Road. It was a much more gritty film.
Ok.
You guys are trolling us now.
The RUclipsr Mauler's take is literally cannon to me.
The hate mongers of the toxic brood unite!
I still think Luke should have caught the lightsaber with the force after throwing it over his shoulder
Why would they kill the golden goose of this franchise??? So stupid!! Final episode of mandalorian Season 2 validates this point!
Personally I loved the Mandalorian UNTlL that season 2 finale. I hated seeing Luke ride in and save the day at the expense of our actual main characters who we had been following for two seasons.
It felt like very cynical pandering to nostalgia instead of taking the story somewhere new. Come to think of it that is exactly what Star Wars has been ever since TLJ.
@@TheAcharyaa your entitled to feel that way but you can't deny the overwhelming positive response from the Star Wars community
Fuck I love this channel
This continues to be my favorite of the 3, due to what you said-it is the best of Rey, Kylo, and Luke. Admittedly, when I watch it, I fast forward through the other storylines. Bummer, because you have great actors in those who are trying to make the best of the bad hand they were dealt. Agree, it feels like the studio probably insisted on the 3 storylines.
As much as I had issues with this movie, I truly loved the scene when Kylo killed Snoke. I wanted him to die so bad.
It didn’t take a second movie to prove kylo was a bad guy, he killed Han. Rey pretty much barely levels up and learns little from Luke. Luke who saw the light in Vader is angry at darknesss in kylo? Kylo argues the site are stupid and then tells Rey the 2 of us will rule the galaxy… kinda like a sith. The light speed scene ruins all space combat forever. This movie just listening to all your points blows. I am not a Star Wars nerd but I can follow along with basic story telling and where Star Wars wants to be as a franchise. I have 0 respect for the sequels besides the force awakens which was decently fun and a good kickoff for the new characters. Also snoke dying was terrible. I never feared kylo, he is too emotional and never a real threat. That’s why they had to bring palp back for the last movie. All kylo does is lose. Stand-alone without the OG series there would be no success had for the sequels. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug
if kylo wasnt ben solo, its was understandable to be bad without the need of back story. However, how the heck ben turn into dark side? you cant just draft a story where ben just "suddenly feel" he wants to become evil one day. That's why the force awaken didn't make much sense if you watch the 6 Lucas trilogy. Luke already killed the Palpatine and ended the war.
How the hell first order gained his troops after 2-3 decades later? How the hell luke didnt stop the sixth and instead choose to hide and left his sister for the fight. He didn't even save han solo when he was in danger.
TLDR : it should end in the episode 6. the rest should be non related to the skywalker story.
Sorry but I have to disagree about the opening 45 minutes... Luke milking sea cows, flipping his lightsaber into the sea like it was garbage, those silly muppets.... ugh, just terrible.
I find this kind of criticism really shallow and misremembers a lot of Star Wars.
Ep 2 Anakin loses his lightsaber multiple times and throughout the film they are tossed about with no real respect.
Ep 4 Luke and his family on Tatooine are drinking green milk and then of course regarding muppets have you forgotten ewoks?
There are many issues with TLJ but the ones you’ve mentioned you can say the same for every single Star Wars film.
@@TheAcharyaa Find it however you like, it's what I think. The first act of the movie broke the entire film for me, it's as simple as that. Others like it and that's fine, to each his own. I can respect an opinion, but I dont have to agree with it.
Bro how you going to say Rose and Finn have no development in Last Jedi when it’s 2022
You can have great actors and a great stage. But without a good script it limits the actors. No wonder we barely see any of the actors at Star Wars in any other Bockbusters
Please do the new Top Gun movie! I loved it!
Beau reminds me of Seth McFarlane.
Luke getting THAT close to killing his own nephew is the worst thing in all of Star Wars. Wtf would the family reunion be like "sorry Han and Leia, I killed ur only child, he had bad thoughts"
The only reason he considers killing him is because he sees all the people Kylo will eventually kill. Killing Ben would have saved Luke’s best friend, Han, from dying. But Luke doesn’t go through with killing Ben because it’s not in Luke’s character. Perfectly consistent with the originals to me. Luke isn’t perfect, he makes mistakes, but he ultimately arrives at the correct decision.
Luke having doubts is one thing, but you're absolutely correct. pointing a gun at someones head in their sleep isn't a lapse in judgment, it's character assasination
@@a.firkaly6548 why are you just assuming this.. the film says nothing of this. Your just trying to make up ur own reasons when there are none
@@a.firkaly6548 even if this was true. The luke we saw in return of the jedi would try to fix ben rather than slaughter his sisters only child in his sleep
@@Zakatkpro watch Rian Johnson’s directors commentary he covers this. I’m not saying this movie is perfect, a lot of the ideas could have been conveyed with more clarity, but it’s not a complete shit show like force awakens or rise of Skywalker. And people forget Rian didn’t make Luke a cowardly hermit, JJ Abrams did with his stupid mystery boxes in episode 7. Rian had to come up with a reason for why Luke was in exile and I think he did a decent job considering the corner he was put in by JJ
I've missed the animations!
Luke is prickly? Prickly? What is he, Walder Frey?
What happened to the Knights of Ren?
probably was intend to put in the return of skywalker (RJ version). He has a custom scene of red stormtropper fighting white stormtropper.
Obviously could’ve been better but the performances given were the best in any Star Wars movie. The story was ok but the acting made the story great and 3rd best Star Wars movie imo
Laura Dern
You guys giving this movie praise blaming the hate these very awful films get on the fans makes no sense the writing was god awful with no redeeming qualities.
The opening makes no sense at all given where the resistance eas at the end of the first film they literally won and now all of the sudden after having support of the entire galaxy they have 3 ships and no support from anyone in the galaxy ya totally makes sense 😂
I can go on for hours breaking this film apart.
Your fans of GOT so am i so let me put this in perspective not understanding how fans hated this film and its sequel is like saying you don't understand why fans hated season 8 of GOT.
Just rewatched this movie. I liked it the first time. I appreciate the Luke cut off from force after watching Kenobi cut off from the force. Great review guys.
The film was trash when I first saw it in the cinema, it was trash when I watched it again when I got the bluray and it was still trash when I watched it recently as I did my yearly watch through of all the movies in order.. If I watch it in 50 years time I'll still hate it.. This was a toe punt to the nuts I'll never forgive Johnson for, visually great is the only nice thing I can say about it he knows how to craft a good shot..
TLJ is one of those movies that will forever be remembered as some of the worst writings put into film
The Disney Star Wars trilogy is hot spicy garbage. How do you have Mark Hamill, Carrier Fisher, and Harrison Ford in the same movie and not get them all together on screen...of all the fan service they could've done, how do they fk that up.
Fact that you guys work so hard to find anything good about TLJ proves how awful that movie is. Nothing was done right in that movie. Absolutely nothing. It's complete garbage. Every character is annoying or disappointing. The story makes no sense. It's only there to piss on everything that came before it. Just let it go. I mean seriously. Burn the master reels. Let it go and pretend it was just a dream.
I have been pretty consistent for almost 5 years: The Last Jedi is a good Star Wars film, just not a good Saga Film. If that makes sense?
If you just watch it as a standalone movie and don’t think of it as Part 8 of the Saga, I actually think it’s a real good movie. It’s beautifully shot, has a consistent theme of failure and the Rey/Kylo force Skyping scenes are intriguing.
If you watch it as Part 8 (or just Part 2 of the Sequel Trilogy), it just doesn’t work. The characters don’t jive with the other movies, the plot feels detached from the Saga, and it just feel like a middle movie for Episode 7 and 9.
The problem is you shouldn't have to look at the second film of a trilogy this way.
Leia should have been able to think of Luke and because they're twins and she's force sensitive he hears her. He then could reach out to help her survive and show her how to pull herself back aboard the ship.He then would be too weak to go with Rey. Then uses the last bit of his strength the way they show it in the movie.
Or how about, something completely different 👏 👍
So you’re not going revisited more?
i agree mostly, but yes the poe subplot and finn were lame, but YET I STILL cant stress enough that he should of never killed snoke. he was far too interesting. and if they still went the way they did , they should of committed to kylo being the bad. personally blows my mind, its crazy how far star wars still misses even today. if they had rey join kylo , then kylo in ep 3 flips back to the light side and has to stop rey. thats how to go past the normal expectations right there. for me movies 2 & 3 are pretty trash with enjoyable moments while force awakens remains the peak of disney star wars in terms of moving the timeline foward
Was 100% with you guys until the "green milk sucks" comment. Green >>> blue
My biggest gripe is that this movie follows the expression "to have cake and eat it too" to have Kyle ren be conflicted the entire movie abs have that culminate in him trying to get rey to forgo both the rebels and the sith, to form their own path, only to have him cop out and return to leading FO was so disappointing. The same with the final luke fight.
Agree. If they would've had Rey joined Kylo at the end. It would've made the movie a lot better. I really hate that at the end of the movie. Nothing really changed.
@@lukeluke333lukeluke what???? Kylo becomes the final bad in those moment. How did nothing change?
Completely agree. Rey should have joined Kylo and actually taken Star Wars somewhere truly new.
For me all of the force users had thr best character and story moments, everyone else was ok. But seriously they just wasted finn in all these movies
Horrible
Horrendous
Flagrant disdain for the Lore
One of the worst Star Wars films in History
Then an extremely inept plot point "Running Out of Gas " in a Star Wars film
It feels like these guys say “this is an ok movie” and then go ahead and pick apart everything wrong with the movie.
tis called critique, they are actually a lot more balanced on this film then most
I think they were very fair with critiques and positives. You can like the movie but it clearly has a lot of flaws, and that is perfectly okay.
I’m full of admiration for those that can go back and enjoy this shit show of a movie but I can’t. For me It’s like going back to an ex girlfriend that’s a smoke show, sure she looks great but there’s not much between the ears and she gave you the clap and you went back for more 🤦♂️
Are you guys high?
When it came out I really loved this one. But I get less enthusiastic about it the more I watch it.
Edit: I do really think it is because of the 3rd film though, they did set Kylo up to be the main Villain but of course they got to sideline him for Palpatine. Such a terrible choice. Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver where the standouts, both of their characters deserved more and this film did the best by them. Force Awakens > Last Jedi > .......... Rise of Skywalker (atrocious)
I have one major issue with this movie: the humor. It was kinda cartoon-y. Overall, however, I do like this movie. It's not ESB, of course, but still.
I do like everything revolving Luke, Rey and Kylo Ren. Those scenes I can watch over and over again. Even though I can understand people who reacted strongly at Luke's arc, I do think it makes sense. Let's remember, Luke has always been having weak spots for his friends, which is exactly the thing that is dangerous for a Jedi (it was the big reason why he was close to fall, in RotJ). And he saw that Kylo would bring death to everything he have ever loved (aka Han and Leia). And I did like to follow how a broken hero would get back up on hsi feet again. Just like Charles Xavier in Days of Future Past. And thehn the whole Kylo/Rey connection was also interesting, it was a neat way to introduce new ways of how the force can work.
And I also liked DJ, I thought he was sort of an "anti Han Solo". He's not charming and dashing, like Han Solo. But both of them has the same principle at the start: "good and bad guys, blah blah blah, show me the money!" Han changes his mind and goes back and help out, since he relises he does like these peopel, after what they've been through. DJ on the other hand, stays true to his ways even after all they've been through. It was a surprising twist the first time you saw ANH, and it was a twist again in TLJ. I also like the callback to those money boxes, that they both got.
I hate the goofy crap. They undercut every serious moment with some slapstick garbage. The movie ruins Luke... then TROS tries to make up for it and cram 2 movies together.
ROTJ is a 1000x better ending, for the Saga.
It's a good stand alone, but bad in terms of the Saga.
Every Male character is regressed and demoted, so they can relearn lessons they already know.
Fs in the comments for Carrie Fisher
Terrible movie. The Leia scene was the most Kringe moment of not only Star Wars. But movie history. I laughed out loud for like 4 mins in the theater and then got yelled at.
As bad as this movie is... I don't think it deserves as much hate as it gets... its better than the rise of skywalker and the force awakens...
TLJ is my favorite of the sequel trilogy cause Rian Johnson at least had the balls to do something different but that also still felt like Star Wars. The visuals were stunning, as opposed to that horrible blue filter that was slapped over parts of TROS. TFA played it too safe and TROS was probably the worst movie of all time. It kinda goes without saying that if Rian, or even a different director & writer, had complete creative control over all three films, the sequel trilogy would have been a more cohesive body of work. The way it ended with TROS leaves such a bad taste in my mouth because it’s depressing to think about how great Ben, Rey, and all the other characters’ arcs could’ve been 🥲
This movie sucked “but” I watched it a lot. I liked Kylo/Rey
They destroyed Luke which make it a 4/10
This movie still sucks because the Luke character makes no fucking sense!!!!! He already faced his doubt and conquered them on episode 6!
This reminds me of the situation with Robin Williams. One of the most positive people, ever. He starred in so many hopeful movies, including some which dealt with suicide, he faced so many challenges in his personal life... and yet he took his life away.
Sometimes the most charismatic, most inspiring people, harbor the deepest sadness.
The Last Jedi is the best of the sequel trilogy and it isn't even close.
Also welcome back Ted glad to have you back
Love u guys. Do not care for this film at all and definitely do not like the way it treated my boyhood hero Luke skywalker. All three Disney films disrespected star wars and its fans. This film especially was made by people with little or no love for star wars.
I like somewhere in the neighborhood of zero of the storytelling decisions made in this movie but somehow I still enjoyed listening to this review
If you are a OG Star Wars fan this film is trash
This is one of the worst movies ever. Total disaster. All sequels suck. 7-8-9 episodes does not exist. They are just some idiots nightmares. Didn’t really happen. I really would avoid all movies that has such a bad writing with woke agenda. I hate all the storylines in those movies. There is even nothing to comment, it’s that bad.
The last Jedi is by far the worst Star Wars movie.. I said Star Wars movie.. not necessarily the worst movie movie
Just come off as Rian Johnson apologists, movie was mediocre at best.
I was on the masterpiece side of this and was the most surprised in my entire life to see how large the divide between critic and diehards was, especially bc I was a die hard and I loved it. I know it’s got huge problems but I still put it next to Empire as my fave.
Having loved KOTOR I and II, even from the start I saw Kylo as Revan-y and I genuinely liked what they did with Luke. The themes of failure really resonated with me and the depth of that arc made me frankly not care that Canto Bight was as mediocre as it was. I still hold it as one of my faves, but I think the fan reaction to it made Disney double down on not exploring much originality with the source material and instead milking the shit out of what already is.
I just want something new. I don’t understand why doing something fresh with Star Wars isn’t attempted; you’d get returns on it regardless bc of the name and no matter what they do some branch of diehard will hate it.
But this diehard enjoys taking risks and Disney frankly is scared to do so bc of the internet’s wrath post TLJ.
this movie is shite and ruined the saga you guys are reading too much into this one.
I am one of the seemingly few people who actually loved this movie! Felt like a fresh of breath air for Star Wars movies to actually have interesting themes and ideas being presented. And then the next movie literally just shits all over this one because Disney thinks that’s what we wanted…In all seriousness though this movie was so polarizing that I honestly think it hurt Star Wars as a franchise way more than helped it. I feel like most people who now hate these movies and possibly the whole franchise point at this movie for being the culprit of that because Luke skywalker wasn’t nice to people or whatever their specific complaint was.
For me it’s the rise of skylwaker that really bothers me, that movie literally took the fun out of Star Wars for me and I haven’t been able to enjoy a single aspect of the franchise since watching Disney just shit all over things that I like because they were afraid of more backlash.

It was the biggest disappointment of the year. Little to no redeeming values. They could have saved the movie if Rey had joined Kylo but no Rian Johnson had to play it safe and compromised any follow up film in the process
I think you guys missed the point on Hux. He’s meant to parody how stupid and goofy the Nazis were in reality.
I hope that's a joke. Seems like a joke but i've come across tlj fans who legit think that
@@YoniLiron the fuck are you talking about
Yeah the nazis who killed millions of people based off ethnicity, race, sexuality, etc. sure were goofy!
I can't blame rise of skywalker because of this movie. This movie had 0 respect to the universe it was in. It was almost ashamed to be a star wars movie.
you should blame the force awakening as well. How can you explain why Luke chooses to run and hide, yet his sister do the fight. Luke didn't even go rescue Han when he in trouble. And how the hell first order can gain so many troops in a short time, this doesn't even make sense.
You guys have your opinions and I have mine. I completely and wholly disagree with all of your takes on this. This divided the fandom in ways that will never be repaired. enjoy your Disney Star Wars guys, I'm sure you'll love it and everything else that's to come next. Good grief
Slaves who love their masters are a thing.
This movie is abysmal at best. 👎👎👎
Looked pretty, better than Rise of Skywalker....still a BAD movie
The internet Star Wars crowd is toxic …but guys …this movie is Garbo. It’s not entertaining
You might be a bit harsh on the fans there, but agree its garbo
Well yeah for the biggest blockbuster ever almost to be just eh is pretty bad 😂 coulda solved world hunger with that money and instead they made a mediocre movie. Lukes death sucked tho, fins character did nothing. Holdo does stupid stuff all movie. Rey gets 0 character development. Snoke dies for no reason and is wasted. Lukes done dirty. Not great dont compare it to the originals 😂
You have to watch this movie knowing it's a trilogy. On its own, it's a mediocre star wars story made slightly worse or better depending on your politics.
But as the meat of a trilogy, its such a let down.
This movie made me tap out and stop consuming blindly
The Last Jedi revisited? You mean the Obi-Wan series🤣
Can't agree 'Driver' is the best actor, not when 'Ford, Guinness, Cushing' have all been in Star Wars movies.
Second best Star Wars film and we’ll never get anything this good again under Disney
Rose crashing into Finn was terrible. Admiral Holdo not telling Po her plan and using an Ex Machina lightspeed dash to destroy Snoke’s ship is bad writing. Leia pulling force powers out of nowhere and using it in a way never seen before to save herself is ridiculous. Luke’s death was disappointing and undeserved. The entire Cantobite arc was inconsequential.
Shame. I was really excited for the film. The redeeming qualities are how it is shot and the acting. Snoke and Kylo’s dynamic is good but the rest is poor
I stand by my thought that all the overblown hate for this movie is what gave us TRoS.
I like somewhere in the neighborhood of zero of the storytelling decisions made in this movie but somehow I still enjoyed listening to this review.
This movie was pretty terrible. So many unnecessary plot lines and laughable in its most serious scenes. I left the theater full of disappointment. It felt more like a practical joke Johnson wanted to play on the audience than a direct sequel to TFA.
I've moved past the vitriol I feel for this movie and now I'm just content to ignore it and the two movies bracketing it for the foreseeable future.
I recently left a comment on this very channel and I warned about it being dangerous to approve of this type of movie or content.
Someone of course laughed and was like "dangerous" 😆
I replied and basically said that if you would've told me 30years ago that everything I grew up with would be remade with such poor quality, I would've laughed too..
I just saw the slate for both Marvel and Disney... I'm willing to bet money that that out of the 40 or something shows scheduled within the next 18 months, barely 10 will be worth watching or have any real substance. They want consumers. Nothing more.
Yep I feel exactly the same. I’ve moved on but occasionally dip in to see the state of the union.
I just let go, I finally did what disney wants us to do, forget the past. I don't consume media outside of independent channels like this. I can keep up with the culture without giving my money to disney
For me the issue is that there are three main story lines in this movie. Finn's, Poe's, and Rey/Kylo. Finn and Poe's story lines are boring and make all the characters involved in them look like fools. Rey and Kylo's story line is interesting but it's not strong enough to make up how much the other two drag the movie down. There is also the fact that as the middle movie in a trilogy it did not do a good job building off the last one or setting up for the next.
There is also dropping the ball on characters like Phasma and even Luke. The old master who is disillusioned but gets pulled back into the fight while training the next generation is a classic trope but was not executed well here. To little was done to set up why Luke was in this position, the entire destruction of his Jedi order is told to us and only shown with less then five minutes of flashbacks, that is not enough.
I do think people went overboard with how they criticized this movie and anyone who harassed the actors because of this should be ashamed of themselves. That said there is just to many issues with this film that I can't overlook. To me this is a C- movie, it has some good elements but not enough to make up for the bad ones.
This whole movie felt like one big "punch line" to me it felt like it was a parody SW film. It was a complete joke. Visually stunning, yes. Johnson threw the SW lore in the trash.
Same opinion.
100 %
I really tried to be open minded about the positives here but I really doesn’t matter if one character or one scene really worked for you if the whole movie failed in the trilogy or in the whole nine. I can think of lots of flaws with Jurassic park one but because the film is great and works they are mostly irrelevant. The flaws in this movie actually end up destroying the it because the movie doesn’t work and is so flawed as a whole. The same can be said for the positives with the movie
I do really love The Last Jedi, but all the issues I have with Finn's treatment in the trilogy can be traced back here.
Rian could've been different and did something significant, but he really did absolutely nothing in the entire movie. It was insulting to fans and to Finn
@@queenb2450 Outside of Finn and Rose's story I'll have to respectfully agree to disagree, I think Rian did plenty of interesting and significant stuff with the story he told.
@@queenb2450 Fin should sacrificed himself at the end instead of saved by Rose.
Yo you guys always have killer intros
