F A D E D C U L T U R E.
scissor steps:
- Trim top to 3 fingers in length, small sections at a time starting from the back then working your way to the front, match left side and right side to the middle for even length trim.
Fading Steps:
Debulk If needed
1st step, guideline with zero (make sure it drops towards back)
2nd step, guideline with .5 (no guard lever open)
3rd step, guideline 1.5
4th step, 2.5 blend outwards
5th step, 3.5 blend out to the top
6th, step clipper or shear over comb finish blending to top
7th, step blend out top guideline w/ 1.5 guard open to 3 qtr
8th step, blend second guideline w/ .5 guard open to 3 qtr
9th step, continue blending second guideline w/ 1 guard open to 3 qtr
10th step, blend first guideline w zero, lever closed
11th step, open lever half way, continue blending
12th step, continue blending with lever open
13th step, do any touch up work
14th step, use trimmers to take out bottom hair
15th step, use electric shaver

My wife test for covid so I can’t be too careful when coming in contact with others keeping me from my barber who’s lost several near and dear family members due to covid. Thank you for the guidance on the self haircuts. My barber also gave me some advise and I’ve been able to cut my hair. I keep it short as I can’t do combover myself. Do you genuinely think you did something with sections, shapes, over direction, or any graduation/building of weight? Infact i know for a fact you don’t know what half of these mean 😅 i know more in sections than you do an entire haircut. P’s im a salon owner who educates other shops 👊👊👊
First of all, I know exactly what everything you said means. And good for you, I was out of line by assuming anything. I try to be the guy who elevates those in the industry instead of just pointing out what I perceive as a problem while offering no solution. And for someone who is so accomplished in the field, I would think that you understand that not every cut needs to be overdirected and that every once in a while the purpose of shears is the same as that of the clippers.... to cut the hair shorter. The shape was established simply by a slight graduation off of the parietal ridge, using the clipper. The shears were used simply to cut the top to a length that could not be easily accomplished with clippers. So first of all, I apologize for my comment. I strive to remain humble and more importantly, teachable. I fell short and I am sorry. I pray that you continue to succeed and grow in this industry and most of all I pray that you continue to be a blessing to those you reach.

When you go to the 1/2 position on your second line, do you run over that initial line or scoop out just above it. I have a hard time finding that line with fine hair is the reason I ask. Great edits btw...huge help in staying consistent with my cuts.

I have a question so if the clipper isn’t zero gapped does it still work setting in the first line or should I use the trimmer cos obviously if it isn’t zero gapped it won’t work as well
