(this probably isn't the reason at all, it's probably because the term nightcore came first I think and people named it nightcore to be cool and daycore is the opposite of it so people just stuck with it. I don't know the real reason so I'm just guessing)

Guys the "night" on "nightcore" comes from it starting as a project of two guys that really liked 90's hardcore techno of the style of the artist Scooter, it was supposed to be "songs to dance all night" but internet and the anime scene blew it out of proportions (for the best imo), daycore is just the opposite of what got popularized as nightcore.
