Kajagoogoo was Nicks band, formed by him and four friends from Leighton Buzzard which rose from the ashes of Art Nouveau. EMI even held a crisis meeting about it, but Paul Ryan (the manager) and Limahl, couldn’t concede their differences. The issue was with Limahl and Paul, there was also a lot of unpleasant circumstances that occurred that led to that decision to fire him at the peak of their success. Things became untenable very quickly. Paul had to fire Limahl. Only managers can fire people, not band members and that’s what happened. They all tried hard to make it work with Limahl, however no matter what they did it wasn’t enough. Hence the split.

They had a record contract to fulfil, the other boys aren’t singers, so Nick had to step in with their support and pushing as he didn’t think he was up to it. Why would Nick bother in the first place to advertise, audition, then hire, Limahl, if he wanted to be frontman, to his own band. Nick started Kajagoogoo from the ashes of Art Nouveau. Nick spent weeks calling Limahl trying to catch Chris, as was on holiday in America at the time, making sure he got him. And he did. That situation became untenable very quickly. Limahl has been in several bands before Kajagoogoo and had been fired from all of them, due to similar situations. Different personalities in bands can often clash and implode.
