Hey brother. “Quick” retort (for me!). With you 100% on the picks themselves. And great vid. I do disagree completely about valuation. Valuation relates to local market, print run, and social media virality. Year-on-year, the YG populations and grading have gone up exponentially. What you are more narrowly describing is which players are under appreciated from a following standpoint. I'll give you an example. Connor Ingram and Joey Daccord are having Vezina type seasons. Ingram is in a dead market, and Young Guns are being printed over 100K. Is he undervalued? No. He's under appreciated, and might be until he is established in a big market. Keep in mind the proliferation of new watered down products, year on year. This means YGs as a whole eventually may be substituted (in the econ sense) for other RCs, notably autos, across sets, parallels, and subsets. Unless we discuss an actual population baseline, the analysis is not grounded. So, sure. Rantanen is a safe call. Rantanen may end his career Top 25 in scoring. He’s always a first rounder in fantasy. And, his YG may have only be printed to 35K as opposed to Bedard being printed to 125K, plus parallels and other mass releases. But does anyone care? Does anyone care about Ron Francis who is #5 in points all-time, or Marcel Dionne #6 all-time? Hedman is the best D of his generation, bar none, but his YG is, what, a $30 card. So the question is: why? Ppl are now solely *chasing* Q Hughes, Makar, and then the next guy. The market driver is gaming and adrenaline for the latest, greatest, and most hyped across social. And keep in mind, Rantanen may be signing tribute RC autos for the next 60 years. Will his YG always be in favor? No. There are broader market forces affecting YGs, notably that ppl park money in the penny stocks du-jour like Kaprizov. A few years later, Kaprizov might be in the KHL. A year after that, the money floods elsewhere. And, not even his FWA is safe, due to mass printing across products. This said, I do like your picks from a player performance standpoint. And there obviously is no risk to buying a $20 Rantanen card. But it’s clear from COMC sales that the market is not about player stats. Present and future valuation is about anticipating what ppl will gamble on, and why. Spezza and Thornton are two of the greatest players of their era. Does anyone care? Of course not. Those gaming on cards with their disposable income see them as fourth liners.

Some very fair points, maybe a more appropriate title for this video would be “under appreciated” young guns. Cause as I stated In the video, I don’t expect these guys to gain substantial value. I also was more focused on current day stats compared to price rather than whether I think there cards will hold up long term. Like you said, unless they’re a Crosby, Ovechkin type player. Who’s gonna care about Mikko Rantenen cards in 15 years?

It’s very strange, I don’t really think his cards will go up either 😂

#1 over valued rookie card.. Cole Caufield. spotlighted in a slumping market with no identity since Prices departure. so much belief in that munchkin hitting 40 when he cant seem to crack 30 goals. hes got more ice time and all, imo hes declined.

I think he’s definitely got 40 potential in him. Agree to disagree

Just shows how fickle the hobby is. Except maybe Panarin, the problem for all these players is that they are second fiddle on their team and/or play in smaller markets. We know who these guys are: star NHL players at or near their career peak performance. I see little "upside" in any of them, absent a deep playoff run.

Completely agree, it’s just crazy how just how since there’s a better player on their team. There value isn’t where it should be
