Airports - I remember having to take off my belt, place it on the conveyor belt and then having to waddle through the scanner with my trousers falling down - in front of a huge line of passengers. I was sure it was designed to strip away dignity.
I had to fly back from Boston (Logan) to DC in the summer of 2002 for the IT company I worked for. I was wearing a pair of sneakers, OP shorts and a tank top. I had my laptop and a phone and that was it. They kept moving lines, closing security lines then moving us to new lines. We stood for hours. Finally I said something about them moving us constantly and they instantly began talking to each other about me, smiling and saying "we'll take care of him". Then when I walked through the metal detector they tripped it. I had NO metal. They tripped it just so they could hassle me. They wanded me, then told me to take off my shoes while an attendant leaned over the escalator railing from upstairs and said "we'll take care of him on the plane", laughing as he did. I refused to remove my shoes at that point. I was done. I told them it was bunk, and I got up, grabbed my laptop bag and headed for the door. I asked a Boston cop who was standing there watching, which exit led to the rental car area. He said "that door there but if you go out that door you'll have to stand in line all over again". I looked at the cop and said "you don't understand. I'd crawl to DC on my hands and knees over broken glass before I'd get on that airplane:". Then in front of the cop I took out my Business Class ticket, and tore it in half and dropped it into the trash can. Then I walked out the door, stepped right onto a Hertz shuttle and road it to the Hertz office at the airport. I walked in and said "what is the most expensive car you have?". They said a Chrysler 300M. I said "fine, give me one of those" and took out my company corporate Visa and handed it to them. Then I drove home in this luxury car, giving the bill to my company After all I had protested going on the trip because I didn't want to fly, I never liked air travel but they made me go, and after this nonsense with security I was done. I drove home to DC, company paid the bill (and never asked me to fly again ha ha) and I NEVER, EVER got onto another commercial airplane again. I refuse to fly. REFUSE. I refuse to even enter an airports jurisdiction. Because when you do, you give up ALL rights as a citizen and they can do whatever they want to you. Its insane. So I refuse to fly or have anything to do with them other than celebrating each time I hear another airlines going bankrupt. They DESERVE to go bankrupt. They are criminal in what they are subjecting us to with that garbage company of 7-11 rejects they call "TSA" and I am not having it. I refuse to put myself in their hands. Same reason at nearly 65 I refuse Medicare. I wont' give these scumbags control of my health. They are evil people, corrupt on every level and I am more than happy to keep as far from their and their Nannystate corruption, as possible.
Boomer, what an incredible story. Thank you for sharing. It amazes me how easily people are willing to give up their rights, or temporarily surrender them, to travel. And as for healthcare, it is a travesty in the U.S. and just another way to make money with limited transparency and accountability. The "pandemic" revealed how easy people are to manipulate. It also showed how many people were willing to turn against their neighbors, family members, and friends, and tow the line. It was an epic experiment with ever lasting repercussions on this planet's civilization.
I made the same observations after 9/11.... the slow progression of authoritarianism... for "safety"... train the kids... to let their bags be inspected in schools... (its just for YOUR safety)... let airports inspect your body and luggage... its (for your safety)
When I went to Japan, their airport customs & security people were direct, polite & respectful. On my return trip to LAX, five-minutes after getting off the plane, we were all greeted by several TSA agents yelling at us while we were just waiting in some line. What's next. Cattle prods???
My travel companion and I were pulled out of line at the airport in Japan. We got the special search. I was frisked by an elderly gentleman in uniform. He acted in such a polite, professional and caring way that I was left with a positive feeling. I never have shared a similar good feeling when recalling experiences with the US TSA, especially not after discovering another agent has stolen something yet again.

Used to fly all the time, for work (military) and pleasure. I haven't flown since 2002, and refuse to do so. I would rather drive for three days than deal with the TSA and carrier nonsense.
Flew to Hawaii in '98, refuse to go thru another airport, had a stare down with a huge dyke TSA agent waiting for my GF to check in. This has all been by design, and the masses keep playing along.
Ummm, I think lack of security would be an even bigger deterrant for me lol. I for one, prefer to land at an airport, not in a fucking 110 story building..
Once I was at LAX and I overheard a conversation between a desperate couple and border security arguing about the fact that their six months old toddler was on a no fly list the security said it was a probably a mistake but they still couldn’t allow the toddler on the plane.

I mean you could it certainly would overspeed the aircraft and exceed the max maneuvering speed but something tells me they weren’t that concerned with the aircraft potentially breaking apart
Who needs security to deter us now when air travel is on a par with torture/robbery. It has become a physical challenge to contort ourselves into those chairs with no leg room.
My uncle is 49 years old and has never flown on an airplane. He’s a trucker and has been all over the USA and Canada. Some of us are real backwoods travelers. Screw the interstate, and screw commercial airlines.
I as police officer need to have reason to belive you're involved in a crime that i can repeat and prove under oath to a jury of your peers before i can make you stop and go through your person, house, papers or affects but when the TSA holds the entire country's flight hostage, people allowed it to be normalized. Pretty crazy honestly
In real life you need reasonable suspicion of a crime to detain somebody LEGALLY. Obviously I don't know you and I'm not judging you, but in general, cops detain people all day long everyday without reasonable suspicion. The repercussions for doing that are normally nothing, there are none. If a person knows their rights and is reasonably sure that an officer does not have reasonable suspicion, they can ignore the cop and walk away. But that almost never works out the way it should. If a cop grabs somebody and they physically resist, they just committed a crime even though that cop had no right to grab them. Now that they've committed a crime he's got probable cause to arrest them. Maybe the charges are dropped, maybe they win their trial or maybe a corrupt court convicts. It's a shot in the dark. Civil lawsuit against the cop? Good luck overcoming qualified immunity, if you can even find a lawyer willing to take the case. DA charges the cop with assault for grabbing someone without probable cause? Yeah right 🤣 In real life most cops can get away with doing just about any damn thing they want to. Even when it's caught on video they're still able to get out of it. If the case goes viral and the community won't forget about it, then they let the cop quit before being fired so he can get another job in a neighboring city. Accountability for the bad things that some cops due is close to 0. There have been some exceptions but they're called exceptions for a reason...
@jerseyshoredroneservices225 imma be 100% honest with you, my friend...I've written incident reports that are shorter than that. I ain't reading all that 😂 God bless.
@@jerseyshoredroneservices225 I did read this. You are 100% correct. Lots of family in that line of work and if there are any "good cops" they are very small and number and they would never speak up for the same reasons. My brother, who retired from the California Highway Patrol after 38 years, made the same observation as you. He told a TSA agent that fact, that the TSA had more authority than he did as a law enforcement officer.
Once a government sets a standard for something, most people just willingly comply without skepticism. This is how these practices become normalized over time. Remember when income tax was supposed to be a "temporary measure"? Look at where we're at now.

I recall in Canada, I come in and the customs officer asked: “you are bringing in more than 10k dollars?” I started laughing and said: “I wish! Do you think I’d have flown economy then?” I for a blue stripe on my card, I collected my luggage walked out and someone barked (they can’t speak normally) that I’d been tagged and how I had the audacity to try and walk out. I said that nobody said something. So I sat there for almost an hour. Some customs officers came to ask me why I sat there so long. So I held up the customs form with the blue line. He looked at the signature and went to find the same thug that had tagged me. The came up and asked: “what did I tag you for?” -“I don’t know, I didn’t even know I was tagged until I wanted to walk out and hand this customs form that you defaced with a blue marker!” He asked: “where are you from?” -“the Netherlands.” “Oh! You were the guy with the cheese?” -“just because I’m Dutch doesn’t mean I carry cheese with me! No! I wasn’t! I think you begrudgingly tagged me because I laughed at your ‘did you bring 10k in cash’ “ I saw an inkling of recognition so he had to X-ray my backpack. And he was like: “what is that?” I look at the screen and I can’t tell what it is or how my back is oriented. So I ask: “is that the top or the bottom?” -“bottom!” “Oh than they are some old sneakers.” -“you role up your sneakers?” “Oh they’ve been in there for a few years they were soaking wet from a camping trip.” -“open up now!” He stepped back a few steps. I said: “you may want to step back further than that! I know how my feet smell and these were in here 2 years or so!” I open up the compartment and a sneaker flopped out. -“oh! I guess you weren’t lying.” He scribbled something on the white card: “here you go!” I shouted: “Thank you!!! I love the welcoming atmosphere in Canada! It’s on par with the US!”

Dr Peterson my reaction after a few interactions at the airports was simple, I don't fly anymore, my temper would not allow me to submit to a loss of my freedom.
I seldom ever fly commercial. One of the benefits of being retired from the US armed forces is that I can drive to any air force base that has military airlift command and as long as they have room in the troop cabin on a flight going my way I can jump on for free and bring my own lunch. I've done lots of US to Europe trips without having to pay a dime for the travel until I got to the car rental booth.
@@JimmyHeight The only downside is the potential for rerouting, instant schedule changes, and cancellations. That's a big deal for people who still work or otherwise have a hard limit on their calendar. Once fully retired, you don't mind so much if your flight diverts from Germany to Italy or whatever. A lot of retirees keep some contingency money stashed just in case they have to revert to commercial air. I generally just make the most of wherever I am until another desirable flight pops up.
I was recently medically retired (100% P/T), do you think you can tell me where I can find more information about those flights? The wife and I would love to travel.

I used to fly quite often. At a whim to ski in Utah or surf in Hawaii or visit family in Canada. It was cheap, with a little cash in hand you could be anywhere tomorrow. Just like taking a bus somewhere. 2001 was my last flight due to personal privacy intrusions of the ticket agents. Life used to be wonderful before the reality of Orwell. I can't imagine traveling today.
Here in Australia politicians are talking about “being ready for the next pandemic” which is scary…I always felt like covid was a test run or draft so to speak to see if we will comply…either that or a reset to cause inflation to rise and increase profits for banks

I fly internationally pretty often between Australia and Asia/Europe and I can’t understand why I must remove my belt for security. Surely even an idiot can tell the difference between a belt and a bomb. My less-than-athletic body shape means my pants fall down without a belt and it’s damned annoying.
I choose smaller airports. TSA is great. Parking is cheaper. Ticket prices are comparable, at least for Southwest Airlines. Layovers at larger airports are miserable AF, but at least I’m already behind the barrier and there are good food options.
Maybe the DOGE can find a way to streamline security at airports. We all want to be safe when we fly. We want a competent and qualified flight crew. We want competent and qualified air traffic controllers. We want competent and qualified weather forecasting to enable pilots to make informed decisions. In all of this, there is no place for DEI, quality and competence are the essential ingredients for complex systems to function efficiently and safely. Can the systems be improved, probably, but only with well trained and highly motivated people doing their part and highly accurate feedback systems.
I try not to fly if at all possible. I don’t enjoy paying to be treated like a criminal. I am from the UK, I tend to stay here in the summer, it’s nice and cheaper.
@DiningWithDiego Common sense beats protocols and knowledge. Security at the airport? Do it somewhere else. The security protocol was usurped by propaganda about racism.
This airport security will only expand to everywhere, starting with train stations, public transport interchanges and shopping malls - it already exists at ferry ports and cruise ship terminals and indeed, some train stations around the world, including Eurostar - this is why they are allowing the crime on the NYC subway to continue, so they can have the excuse to implement maximum security and “safety” measures there, same with crime in big cities
I don't know about the title reflecting the whole truth, but must say, last time I flew, the experiance of having gone through the whole boarding proccedure quickly took away any magic and wonder of being in the skies for the first time in my life, and if I do not see another airport, " that's ok with me."
And even those of us who hate the authoritarian rule are basically told “Its just easier to comply. Just comply and you’ll be thru the line in 2 minutes…”
I’m the opposite. I travel for work and I LOVE airports. Airports are magical places to me. They are portals to the world. But with regard to what they’re arguing, the liquid thing boggles me. So if it’s larger than 3.4 mL, you can’t take it. So they’ll pull it out of your bag, and toss it in the trash… Ok. That bottle of water is either an explosive, or it’s just a bottle of water. If the presumption is that it’s something potentially dangerous, putting it in a common trash can seems like a bad idea.
My wife and I flew overseas in 2006 with our 2 infant children (one aged 2 and the other 6 months). While away, the liquid ban was implemented, along with other restrictions. No colouring books, crayons or other distractions were allowed for kids, along with sippy cups, etc. It took me years to overcome my outrage before I dared set foot in an airport again with kids.
But I will say, it is also a collection of the oddest people out there. And one thing that is off putting is the day drinkers! lol. I’m always like “Ok. I wonder which one of these fine people is going to wind up on cell phone video on the evening news?”.
Not having been on a plane since 1963, I had to take a 1600mile flight for my Mother's funeral. $800 to be treated like a criminal at the airport, and treated to a free coke and a tiny bag of Chex-mix on the plane.

I had a blast at age 13 going on a 747 to Hawaii even though I had to wear a dress and panty hose. The food was awesome (my family was in restaurant & the deli business) we ate off china and flatewear.
I traveled frequently in the 70s and 80s and there is a distinct difference between that time and now that makes us different and no one wants to acknowledge it or it being the real reason why we have the increased security.
I remember having multiple coarse meals served on real China. There was plenty of leg room in the cabin. Today, air travel is worse than riding a city bus. Travelers are treated with suspicion as potential criminals. Airports and planes are stuffed with people, and the level of service is made as close to zero as possible. I'm sick of air travel. Soo many of the people in airports look like they cannot even afford the tickets they are using.
At the passport office I suggested it's so they can identify your body should you die while away. But no, it's for facial recognition software, which has been around for a shockingly long time. Wonder what would happen if you smile the whole time you're at the airport...
Boarder check points have massive x-ray scanning machines that you have to drive a big rig through... They scan trailers to look for contraband... This good conversation made me think... Geez.. How much do those massive scanners cost... Probably over a million dollars each...
This is so true. People in JFK treat passengers so bad. It makes me feel sick every time I have to fly and I always try to avoid scales in the US airports because of the rudeness.
my sister was last year discriminated against at a Ryanair gate in Dublin. She looked more affluent and better than anyone else there, and the jealous Ryanair employee seemingly hated such women. So she picked my sister out of the crowd and said that her carry-on was too large, even though it was a normal size and my sister has flown with that carry-on on many many flights before, even with Ryanair! My sister told her that, but she ignored it. And there were at least 10 people at that gate with visibly oversized luggage, but the employee ignored that when my sister pointed it out. When my sister continues arguing, the employee called security on her!!😅 My sister is an well-behaved (non-hysteric) mid-40s banker (so she knows how to nicely interact with people) with broken English skills. And if you now think it was racism: no, my sister is blonde blue-eyed. It's absolutely appaling how we have fallen to the mercy of freaking moody employees😅 Damn.
I have given up air travel as well. They call these checks “random” when they do their weird tests like searching for bomb residue, metal and so on. But I am older and cannot tell you how often I am “randomly” selected for the wand or bombs or something. It is so ridiculous. I watched a questionable guy push through security, budging in front of countless people because he arrived late and would MISS his plane. Security never stopped him or slowed him down. If I would have tried that move, I wonder how far I’d get before they grabbed me. I have no doubt that they’d have given me a thorough going over, I think.
It’s why I don’t fly anymore; I won’t subject myself to this. Haven’t been on a plane since 2010. Also, in 2012 I was interested in becoming an air marshal. My family had a connection. But then I learned from them that the air marshal program was ran by DHS and that the pipeline for that jib now started by working for a couple years in the TSA. I turned down the offer because I’m American and have self respect.
Ever watch "History" channel in the morning? These border security shows are training you before you even get to the airport for your experiential training.
The TSA once pulled me aside and had me prove what was under my shirt (I was wearing shape wear that had a sipper on it) I slid up my shirt and showed them. Then again they had me stick out my hands and swabbed my finger tips… she said it will detect gun residue and bomb stuff. It was a waste of time but at least I felt special for a little bit lol 😂
I have this crazy idea… And it’s nothing more than that. But it’s worth mentioning. What if baseball realigned its leagues so that all the elite teams were in the American League and all the smaller market teams were in the national league? During the season you only play teams within your league, giving everybody a chance to get to the top. This gives even teams like the Rockies and the White Sox, a better chance of competing within their division. Even with the randomness of baseball, one might expect that the American league elite team would win the World Series every year. But the National League would be throwing its best at them, still making it fun. You can also extend this to trading. National League teams can only trade with National League teams. And the draft picks remain the same across the board.
YES YES YES airports are obedience training facilities and I have always felt that then we had a medical emergency pushing ‘wear a mask!’ as more obedience training with those who were none compliant being all too obvious - less than 20% of the population are capable of recognizing any of this
I've said this so many times in the past when at airports like what is the point of these checks, such bullshit. I once wore a belt with metal buckle and the machine didn't ring, then another time I took everything off and it went off and has to go to a side room and do a search. Nonsense. Then you have to put all the liquid in these tiny little bottles in a clear bag. People always act like I'm mad when I say it's a joke.
And they recently laid off most of security at the airports. That’s how people are easily sneaking into the wheel wells on airplanes. Most of the scanners aren’t operating because they don’t have the staff.
@BBelle64 It's important though. Ya don't want new weeds, insects, soil born diseases, or animal disease getting in to an agricultural powerhouse like the USA.
Supply & demand. Too many illegals so there is an oversupply of labor and an under supply of housing and food. Result? Low wages, high housing and food costs.
I refuse to fly. If I had to go to Hawaii I'd pay for a berth on a cargo ship first. Been saying this for years: "If you want a taste of socialized medicine, go to a VA hospital. If you want to know what it's like to live in a police state, go hang out at an airport."

I work at an international airport (explosives detection Xray engineer) and i agree with you.
The airlines might suck, but have no control over TSA.
Bravo!

As an active 747 Captain ... I published a book about this and about the impossibility to fly a jetliner into a tower... at 480 knots... by arab student pilots... My books are in german language. You may g..gle my name. Hello Jordan and Rob, keep doing what you are doing. Stay safe. Regards from
@Seraphim-d4w No. Not at physically impossible 480 kts @ 1000 ft... Not, if you're not an excellent type rated pilot. All airline pilots know that. Are you one? Thought so. Have a nice day.
I’m confused. You say impossible to fly into a tower. Then you say not impossible in the next comment. Can you clarify?
I mean you could it certainly would overspeed the aircraft and exceed the max maneuvering speed but something tells me they weren’t that concerned with the aircraft potentially breaking apart
Weird. Because I heard that pilots hit a narrow target, no wider than the WTC towers every single flight.
It's called the runway.
@ Are you a jet pilot? ...
Who needs security to deter us now when air travel is on a par with torture/robbery. It has become a physical challenge to contort ourselves into those chairs with no leg room.

@ sailing the ocean blue is still a viable choice.
Yeah right 🤣
In real life most cops can get away with doing just about any damn thing they want to.

My brother, who retired from the California Highway Patrol after 38 years, made the same observation as you. He told a TSA agent that fact, that the TSA had more authority than he did as a law enforcement officer.
@Sand1955 isn't that kinda dumb? Lol, what's dumber is that no one makes a big deal about it. They just go along.
Once a government sets a standard for something, most people just willingly comply without skepticism. This is how these practices become normalized over time. Remember when income tax was supposed to be a "temporary measure"? Look at where we're at now.
Hunter Biden enjoys our tax laws.

Oh my, I thought I was the only one who felt this way! I never shared my views on this with anyone; they were just my secret thoughts.
I recall in Canada, I come in and the customs officer asked: “you are bringing in more than 10k dollars?” I started laughing and said: “I wish! Do you think I’d have flown economy then?”
I for a blue stripe on my card, I collected my luggage walked out and someone barked (they can’t speak normally) that I’d been tagged and how I had the audacity to try and walk out.
I said that nobody said something.
So I sat there for almost an hour. Some customs officers came to ask me why I sat there so long. So I held up the customs form with the blue line. He looked at the signature and went to find the same thug that had tagged me.
The came up and asked: “what did I tag you for?”
-“I don’t know, I didn’t even know I was tagged until I wanted to walk out and hand this customs form that you defaced with a blue marker!”
He asked: “where are you from?”
-“the Netherlands.”
“Oh! You were the guy with the cheese?”
-“just because I’m Dutch doesn’t mean I carry cheese with me! No! I wasn’t! I think you begrudgingly tagged me because I laughed at your ‘did you bring 10k in cash’ “
I saw an inkling of recognition so he had to X-ray my backpack.
And he was like: “what is that?”
I look at the screen and I can’t tell what it is or how my back is oriented.
So I ask: “is that the top or the bottom?”
-“bottom!”
“Oh than they are some old sneakers.”
-“you role up your sneakers?”
“Oh they’ve been in there for a few years they were soaking wet from a camping trip.”
-“open up now!”
He stepped back a few steps. I said: “you may want to step back further than that! I know how my feet smell and these were in here 2 years or so!”
I open up the compartment and a sneaker flopped out.
-“oh! I guess you weren’t lying.”
He scribbled something on the white card: “here you go!”
I shouted: “Thank you!!! I love the welcoming atmosphere in Canada! It’s on par with the US!”
Nice to read of some fine Dutch behavior from a fellow Dutchman!

That Sounds incredible
@@JimmyHeight The only downside is the potential for rerouting, instant schedule changes, and cancellations. That's a big deal for people who still work or otherwise have a hard limit on their calendar. Once fully retired, you don't mind so much if your flight diverts from Germany to Italy or whatever. A lot of retirees keep some contingency money stashed just in case they have to revert to commercial air. I generally just make the most of wherever I am until another desirable flight pops up.

And then they tax drivers big time to force them to use public transport.
Right when the whole TSA started I called it "Obedience Training" . I stand by that.
I’m the opposite. I travel for work and I LOVE airports.
Airports are magical places to me. They are portals to the world.
But with regard to what they’re arguing, the liquid thing boggles me. So if it’s larger than 3.4 mL, you can’t take it. So they’ll pull it out of your bag, and toss it in the trash…
Ok.

This is so true, I noticed this 20 Years ago, it's like a Dystopia , they would love it to be like this everywhere
After the TSA, I accepted the fact I'll never fly again. Because I refuse to be treated like that.
Not having been on a plane since 1963, I had to take a 1600mile flight for my Mother's funeral. $800 to be treated like a criminal at the airport, and treated to a free coke and a tiny bag of Chex-mix on the plane.
The guilt tripping push for household recycling in the 70s was another early example.

I never, ever, go through the x-ray machine.

Isn't it interesting that you are not allowed to smile for a passport photograph ?
At the passport office I suggested it's so they can identify your body should you die while away. But no, it's for facial recognition software, which has been around for a shockingly long time. Wonder what would happen if you smile the whole time you're at the airport...
Boarder check points have massive x-ray scanning machines that you have to drive a big rig through... They scan trailers to look for contraband... This good conversation made me think...

Great talk Gentlemen ; thanks ever so much from old New Orleans 😇
I've had some of the most unpleasant experiences at the airport...yikes, 💯 agreed!
my sister was last year discriminated against at a Ryanair gate in Dublin.
Thank you 💯
It’s why I don’t fly anymore; I won’t subject myself to this.

Yup. I've been saying this since they instated TSA. The majority "poopoo'd my observation...and here we are. So many times I wish I were wrong.
@5:50 That reminds me of the movie 'Airplane.'
Like when they were forcibly pointing those thermometers at people's foreheads like a gun during covid
I hate airports. When I leave them I feel like I’ve been released from prison!
TSA needs to go, I loath everything about these unconstitutional, thieving, fumbling idiots.
And they recently laid off most of security at the airports. That’s how people are easily sneaking into the wheel wells on airplanes. Most of the scanners aren’t operating because they don’t have the staff.
IMO if we are pickier about who is allowed within our borders in the first place, then we won’t need harsh TSA on domestic flights.
I've always been a fan of Rob, the actor, I've become a fan of Rob, the man.
Yet they don't check shoes and sox for soil and seeds. Like with freight.
Haha they checked my shoes come back to the US from France. All because I had visited a farm.
Very odd.
@BBelle64 It's important though. Ya don't want new weeds, insects, soil born diseases, or animal disease getting in to an agricultural powerhouse like the USA.
Entering Canada you are asked if you are bringing in any firearms. Entering the USA you are asked if you are bringing any (of those dangerous) apples.
Jordan please do a video about low wages in the USA!
Supply & demand. Too many illegals so there is an oversupply of labor and an under supply of housing and food. Result? Low wages, high housing and food costs.
I refuse to fly. If I had to go to Hawaii I'd pay for a berth on a cargo ship first. Been saying this for years:
"If you want a taste of socialized medicine, go to a VA hospital. If you want to know what it's like to live in a police state, go hang out at an airport."
Thanks
