- Jazz Exercise No. 2 by Oscar Peterson (RCM Level 8 List D) from the Royal Conservatory of Music 2015 Piano Celebration Series.
Please note that Lisa Tahara is playing from the first edition print of the Celebration Series which has incorrect notes in the second half of measure 13. They should be D-E-D C-D-C (and not E-F-E D-E-D).

A note for all students: I've added a disclaimer in the video description about the incorrect notes in measure 13 in this video from my first edition print copy of the 2015 Celebration series. I apologize in advance for any confusion!
Thank you.
This is the first time one of my students has chosen this piece and I can’t wait for the 2022 series :/
As an RCM teacher I feel that it’s completely unprofessional to have literal *wrong notes* in a piece. Or wrong ornaments in the Gr. 5.
Is it 2022 yet?
@@ginamancini7980 I know it's frustrating, but this isn't the first time and certainly won't be the last time that there are misprints in the Celebration Series (as is also the case in some other editions out there). Since I hadn't taught that many pieces out of these books, I didn't even realize until I started recording and uploading them and people such as yourself left comments letting me know about wrong notes here and there. At any rate, I don't blame the RCM... editors are human and they're bound to miss things here and there. The good thing is that they always correct the errors in subsequent prints. I'm also looking forward to the next series at any rate!
@@ginamancini7980 Chill bruh. Everybody makes mistakes, deal with it.
@@JAS-rq8ro it’s true
IS THIS HOW FAST I'M SUPPOSED TO PLAY THIS- holy heck I didn't realize how far away from the tempo i am lolz
LOL
This comment made me laugh too 😄 Good luck!!~
LoL
It’s not at hard as it seems actually, I played this piece a while ago! I recommend practicing it slow first, then slowly upgrading the speed! It is actually a reallly fun piece to play
LOL
I literally cannot hear the difference between her swung 8ths (swung in triplets) VS. her pairs of dotted eighths and 16th notes. Anyone else not hearing this distinction? Obviously theyre supposed to sound perceptibly different if the sheet music included both (which I've never seen in any music I've tried to play before!)
Same doubt here!!
You play jazz well for looking so classical. 😉😊
This comment made me smile! Thank you for listening! 😊😊
You play it so like Oscar Peterson, sometimes I can imagine it's him, except it's you. Just as great :D
What a nice comment - thank you! 😃
I just started level 8 piano... but I don’t think I will ever be as good as her...
Just keep practicing!~ 👏💪🏻🎹😊
wow, you played it well and fast :)
Thank you! It's a fun piece to play 😊
are you planning to start uploading videos from levels 9 & 10?
Eventually, yes! I'm doing the easier ones first though 😄
Hello
Nooooo actually it 100000000000
And sorry i am using my dads acount.
Noooooooooo actually 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000

I wish u could of said this in 1 comment… :/
Would you be able to record Six variations on a swiss folk song by beethoven? I want to hear it played by a pro! :)
I'll definitely upload that piece in the new year! 😊
@@LisaTahara Thanks!
sounds fake... your too good! keep it up!
Thanks, Strawberry! 😄
This woman always helps me play piano because every level song i do, she played it
Are you able to record Scherzo in B flat Major by Schubert RCM 8 List C
Yes, I can add that hopefully within the next few weeks!
I’m doing this i love jazz
This. Is. So. Good.
THIS IS GODLY JAZZ :O
once again thank you for the motivation ❤️👌🏻
I'm glad it has motivated you! Thank you for your kind words, Olivia! 😊😊
Lisa Tahara aw no problem! 👌🏻
I don’t even have words for how good you play
😄
WOW !!! it looks so easy for a difficult melody! That's why I bought me all these books now...because of you!
Wonderful! 😊 This is a great piece for students. Oscar Peterson was such a master of jazzy pianistic writing (and of course playing)!
This piece will somehow have a popular standout from other Grade 8 pieces for whatever reason. Thanks Lisa! :)
Thank you! It's a fantastic piece by a jazz legend indeed!! 😊
I LOVE THIS PIECE!!
Soooooooooo good keep up the amazing work
Thanks!!! 😀😀
I really wish I casuals give you 100 thumbs up
UPPPpPpPPppPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aww, thank you! I've been playing piano for many, many years 😄
This song sounds so carefree
I agree!! Peterson is a genius.
No1000
plus this song does sound like an exercise.
I agree!!
Beautiful song❤️
Great choice! 😃
You played 3 extra notes in measure 13... other than that it’s an excellent video!
@Marek Performing I think you guys have different versions
But mine is the RCM Level 8 Repertoire 2015 Edition...
@@marekperforming8161 Hmm, interesting - I checked my 2015 edition again, and I'm playing the exact notes as written, so I assume the explanation is that the RCM printed incorrect or additional notes the first time (in the edition I have) and then corrected it in subsequent printings. This is hardly the first time there have been errors in the Celebration Series - editors are human and it happens frequently :)
I was also surprised to note that in other versions of this piece on RUclips, there are completely different notes all over from the one I have in my book (and the one you have)!
@@quasihornet3516 I believe you are correct as I double/triple checked my score. I also learned tonight that there are many different versions of this piece on RUclips... very interesting!
@Marek so I've now confirmed with the RCM that my version has the incorrect notes! Your version of the Celebration Series was updated with the correct notes in the second half of measure 13. I'll re-record it at some point but keep this one up for now. 😊Thanks for calling my attention to this!
So good!!❤️❤️🔥🔥 Keep it up!
Thanks, Elizabeth!! 😊
Wait I do INCREDIBLE
You're too kind, Ki ki! 😊
I'm getting better
This sounds so good!
Thanks!! 😃
You helped me so much for playing this piece. Thank you sooo much!
You’re welcome! 😃
Question why did you not play sonata in c major mozart?
Is that in the Celebration Series?
@@LisaTahara Yes
How do you play so smooth??.?.????
Many, many hours of technique work when I was young... 😄
@@LisaTahara oh then I guess I will try to do that because I only play for maybe 3 hours a day 1 hour in the afternoon an d 2 hours a night with my dad
Ms Thara what’s your job
I teach at a university and also work for an arts organization.
Oh nice I never heard of that before
Are you able to play Sonata in G Major Op. 49 No. 2 by Beethoven?
Wrong notes in the second section. And most of the fingering directions are a mess. RCM at its finest. Not to diminish the playing. The playing is fine. It’s just wrong at bar 13.
The fingering is nonsense @5 and therefore 30. And there’s a wrong note @12.
@@justoriginal4429 no lol
@@justoriginal4429 it isn’t. Check out the original scores sans RCM. There are plenty of scores and versions out there of this piece. The only place you’ll find this version is in the RCM 8 publication and this recording. I promise.

This is a solid.
I've now pinned my comment from 7 months ago with my disclaimer about the misprint in measure 13 so that it'll be the first thing people see. As for fingerings, I always take suggestions (from all editions including Henle, etc.) with a grain of salt. When I used to teach RCM-level students, I'd frequently suggest alternate fingerings from what was printed in the CS books. 🙂
