I have watched a few versions. Deborah adds something especially in the floating on air part, the run on just and how she emphasizes the I told you to line. Beautifully done.
@@Meyerc-yv2bithe original was beautiful but I wonder if you realize when you say that’s how it’s done that you are also foreclosing different interpretations of music. Lena Horne’s version was true to who she was a singer and actor just as Deborah’s version is true to her talent. Rather than think of it as simply done for show think of it as the singer conveying the emotion they believe the character felt. In each version I felt they were trying to help Dorothy believe in herself.
@@naimshakir3569 Lena Horne was NOT in the original Broadway production. Her interpretation, like everything else from the truly dreadful movie, does not compare.
@@naimshakir3569 Anne Duqesnay was great in the bus and truck 1984 iteration of The Wiz, which came to Broadway briefly at the Lunt Theater. The current production at the Marquis is awful. Such a wasted opportunity, but that's what happens when an incompetent "creative team" has an insatiable desire to "update" a classic.
I just saw it on Broadway tonight and absolutely loved it. It had some of the most beautiful sets and effects I’ve seen in any Broadway show. The cast was incredible, but at times I can’t help feeling like Deborah Cox was underutilized in the role of Glinda. I actually think she would have made a fantastic Eviline. I guess I just wish we had seen more of Glinda is all.
See, she's changing it up, and trying to add lip. She needs to stick to the rendition she had on the Tamaron Hall show. Now that was a legendary rendition. I like her costume, but they need more production ... like smoke and special effects and extra stuff. The staging looks very amateur. Anyway, I rushed here when I saw Deborah Cox - she really can sing this song, but this was not exactly her best outing.
Oh, I’m so glad you’re here to tell us how Deborah Cox should sing. Whatever would we do without you? I have seen her live a few times, and she can sing it however she likes, because she’s amazing.
Deb sounds great here we go again from our own black people downing our black entertainers. I want to see you go up there and perform day in and day out. Just appreciate the talented Deborah Cox is still with us and that 💯
It just doesn’t need this. Glinda is wise and powerful and the ‘mother’ of the show. She needs it just own her voice, one her space and communicate the message. Cox is a truly fantastic singer but the creatives have let her down. Down of this lands. There is no character, no thought. It’s like a school play
She literally created her character in this. No one let her down. She did this with grace and style. Just because it’s not the Original Wiz Broadway or recorded remake… she literally ate this up! In Broadway perfection!

It's AWFUL! Can't understand a word.
@@Meyerc-yv2bi I think that has a lot to do with the fact that someone was recording the show on their phone.
The WIZ was Absolutely AWESOME. Debra 6was Phenomenal
She changed it up for sure. But this version is my favorite still ruclips.net/video/YMY3u5K3vRk/видео.htmlsi=LkjsqtSRv0q8qcK3
Bro that's LITERALLY the best version. Hands down. Good taste 🍻.
Nobody can sing this song like Ann Duquinay (I butchered her name ) ...it's impossible …she's one of a kind …that was phenomenal. ❤️
Beautiful!
Amazing amazing Amazing
thank you so much for posting this
That voice.
이번 더 위즈 프로덕션의 편곡이 너무 좋다 ㅠㅠ 💚
She was so amazing live.
Yes....the Queen Deborah COx
Amazing! 😃
BayyyBaayyy!! There’s no mistaking that VOICE!!! ❤❤❤❤❤!

More like destroyed. The original is how it's done.

I saw this on Broadway. It is one of my favorite musicals ever and I hope future productions will use the changes this revival made!

Is there even a set? It looks like a bare stage which is so disappointing.
She literally did the same thing on the Tamron Hall show minus a few very minor things. She’s doing fantasic.
@@mimetogodxothen it’s not “literally” the same thing.

Yeah…this criticism is just like the criticism from the 70’s: baseless. Probably didn’t even watch the show. Deborah did a great job.
