Once an original Fosse dancer, always a Fosse dancer!
The first 46 seconds of this is magical. The first male dancer my goodness.
It's similar to what Fosse did in "the little prince"
Marc Calamia the dancer at the beginning is the epitome of sexy! I'm mean the control combined with the grace dear lord! In a show full of the best dancers on Broadway he was a stand out.
I remember, sooo well, this dance from the commercial, when Pippin opened the 1st time. Was Ben Vereen, Anne Reinking and another dancer. I think the commercial said, 'Now, one minute from the Best Musical, Pippin'…and they gave us this. Was to me, amazing. Was 1973 and I was only a few years old but watched with fascination and begged mom to take me, and she did! Began a one affair that to this day, has not dissipated, neither with Fosse nor with Musical Theatre. Love it. I think Vereen does a damn good job in 'Fosse'….30 years post his making it truly, on Broadway, especially given his health and other issues he has battled through the years. I also saw Fosse when it was on Broadway about 13 yrs ago and it was wonderful, though not with Vereen. Now, I wait to see Pippin in April. From what I've seen, I think I will love it! Love live theatre, even though it cost 8x more now than it did when I was a kid. Worth it.
It wasn’t Ann Reinking. It was Ben Vereen, Candy Brown and Pam Sousa.
You can now find that commercial on RUclips.
I sure do wish we someone recorded the original 1972 show for this generations viewing pleasure, seeing the show exactly how Fosse himself did it. I hope the '81 tape is closer to the original than I think.
For this scene the 81 version is correct
So do I, in some way it was even more magical and thrilling.
You can watch it on Broadway HD! They have a free week trial
@@emmaprior7402 Thanks Emma for recommendation. Just subscribed! Watching the Pippin from 1982! 🥰
Absolutely incredible and inspirational! Especially when you know the journey he had gone through! God bless you Ben Vereen!
Marc Calamia was Genius in this production!! I had the privilege to see this live and it featured some of the most amazing dancers Broadway has ever seen!!
The Manson Trio is simply sensational. Love it! Thank you. Thank you.
Zel Fairorth Liza minelli
Not as good as original, but it's amazing he can do it at all!
Fosse is the epitome of a genius.
"Fosse" was a revue of songs/dances from many of Fosse's shows. The 1972 refers to the date of the original show, "Pippin", not this performance. This was filmed in about 2002.
Ben!!!!! he’s never gonna lose it!
so glad this is on Utube. - thank so so very very much!!!!!
Unfortunately, severe arthritis all over his body sidelined Mr. Vereen before this tape was made. He himself said in a television interview that he worked his body too hard. He continued onstage and screen as an actor, no longer a dancer.
Shawn Cherry you can barely tell tho
It didn't help that he was hit by a car and spent a good deal of time at Kessler Rehab for physical therapy. Saw him with Anne Reinking and it was the best Broadway musical I ever saw....and I saw lot of them.
What recording is this? When was it made? I didn’t know he still danced at all!
He NEVER lost it! =)
0:00 to 0:45 Be still my heart.
Awesome, Talented Man😁 Yes Ben👍🏾
one of my fave musicals of all time!!!!!!
Amazing when you realize that Ben Vereen was injured in an auto accident and had to learn to walk, etc all over again!
five people are lost in the world! Fosse and Ben are the best!
First I'm like anyone can look good surrounded by such great dancers. Then a moment later I'm like, no that's because Ben Vereen is truly outstanding and always will be.
Great stuff!!!! Loved it!
I love Ben Vereen. Always will :-)
awesome
Nothing but the very best; of course.
It's the Manson Trio from Pippin.
hha he's still got it!
Saw Pippin last night1 #Amazing
Uwielbiam Boba Fosse i wszystko co stworzył i bardzo lubię tego Murzyna. Bardzo bym chciała aby ktoś, kto potrafi, poprawił wszystkie filmy (wrzuty) na jakość HD. Z góry dziękuję i pozdrawiam:)
Over, love Ben Vereen!!
Ben vereen's still got it XD
Ben is the Best !!

Change into the size of a Lima bean!!!
I believe it's suposed to be "steel" as in a blade.
Me hace acordar a la pantera rosa :/ Es por el estilo de música, y claro, a la pantera la han hecho bailar así ese estilo de música o acaso esta inspirada en este sr. ?????
8 million something killed in WWI?!? Can anyone second this fact?
okay, searched it. that number refers to "civilians"
The total number of both civilian and military casualties is estimated at around 37 million people.
Can anybody tell me the name of the song at the end when Ben is dancing with the two girls and they are all wearing hats?
It's all considered part of the same song -- "Glory" from Pippin. I think you really need to see the entire sequence in order for this part to make sense -- the song has been abbreviated considerably in order to focus on the choreography by Fosse. The song points out the absurdity of trying to persuade people that war is something exciting and wonderful when it isn't. The sequence in full includes (among other things) Pippin coming out on stage with blood on his hand and the "thousand yard stare" often associated with combat soldiers. Oh, and let's not forget the body parts being thrown onto the stage from the wings...!
The irony of "Pippin" is that it positions itself as a musical comedy -- a couple of the characters even break the "fourth wall" to point this out -- but the comedy is actually quite dark, and "Glory" is one of the darkest parts of the show before you get to the finale.
It's 2024😂
there is no act three in pippin it is a two act show
Cole Patno This from the musical revue, "Fosse"; featuring Fosse's most famous dance numbers from all of his shows, Pippin included.
I thought Act Three was in reference to the show Fosse, not Pippin. This is from a revue of Fosse's choreography and shows, not the actual show itself
Additionally, Pippin was originally performed in one act.
It was act three of Fosse this is not all Pippin
Thank you for the most depressing introduction I've ever heard.
These chicks can’t keep up mr Vereen.
