    I admire the fact that you don't use notes. I myself couldn't possibly have any hope of completing a hard puzzle without them.

      Thank you John for your comments. It has taken me a long time to be able to do this. You could too, you should try it!

    At 16:00 when you found the ghost 2s in box 3 I like to look at where they are pointing.
    The 12 twins in box 1 would have been resolved which you did about 3 minutes later.

    Another nice solve. This rolled up in my recommended list so I solved it. Pretty much like you did. I was 5 minutes slower. My goal is to solve faster than you. A technique I have trouble seeing is the loaner cell. . I'll keep working at it though. I haven't looked for an x-wing, swordfish, or skyscraper for a couple of months now.

    How come did it take you ten minutes to spot 8 in row number 6 ? It was such an easy spot staring at you right from the start, did you ignore it on purpose ? Am I missing something here ?

    • @wordoku
      @wordoku  6 лет назад

      I didn't ignore it on purpose. I guess I was just looking in other areas of the puzzle. I sometimes do ignore obvious things to point out other ones. It is very obvious though! You're right. So is the 9 in B9 once the 1 is placed in that box.

      When I'm doing stuff - my eyes aren't looking the same place as your clever eyes. I'll keep working...

    I saw a question about how I knew where the 7 and 8 go in box 8 (h5 and i4). See the video starting at 2:20 and I explain how they were found. If this doesn't answer your question leave another comment and I will try to answer you.

    You were considerably delayed in solving this puzzle because you did not spot the 3s restricted to row 1 in box 2. As you saw later, this pushes the 3s down in row 3 of box 1 and gives you the 3 in the middle cell of box 3, and hence the 2 to its right and the 6 on the left. As always, I have also been culprit of some similar omissions, but all in all this puzzle was fairly easy to do without notations. I clocked 18 minutes. Earlier today, I needed 20 minutes to do the NY Times MEDIUM.

      Thanks for your observation. Yes, I sometimes miss obvious numbers. I get focused on other parts of the puzzle and don't notice easy choices.

    At 19:10 how do you know that the 2 can't go in i1?

    • @wordoku
      @wordoku  6 лет назад

      Good question. R1C9 and R3C9 are 7-8 twins. Therefore row one and row three column nine MUST be 7 and 8 although at that point we don't know which of the two numbers go where (they are twins that can't be solved yet). So the only place for the 2 is in R2C9 (row two column nine). At 18:56 I mentioned the twins but it's hard to always stay focused on what is being said since my monotone voice drones on the whole time. :-)
      Thanks for your question. I hope these videos are helping!

    17:54: why do you say a 3 has to be in row 3, columns 1 or 3? Regardless of the rest of the video couldn't it be in row 2, column 2?

    • @wordoku
      @wordoku  6 лет назад +1

      I place a 4 in box 7 at 5:42. I don't mention it but at that point we know that R1C2 and R2C2 are 1-2 twins so a 3 can't be in R2C2. I mention the 1-2 twins at 13:39. At 17:28 I point out that the 3 in box 1 must be in R3C1 or R3C3. I don't say why but it's because of the 1-2 twins in box 1.

    • @wordoku

      Yeah, sometimes I'm looking in other places and sometimes I'm trying to show a specific concept. Sometimes I just miss them!

      i understand completely. Better to look at the bigger picture like you do. I learn a few things watching you decifer the puzzle the way you do it. Cheers

    There is nothing 'diabolical' here, at best an average medium. Most difficult technique needed is matching pairs and triplets used for exclusion. Niothing really special.

      I use the skill level stated in the book. I know that some are much easier than others.

    Diabolical ???? You must be kidding ! This wasn't even hard x

    • @wordoku

      Sudoku To Go magazines use puzzles from websudoku.com. That is stated inside the front cover of each magazine. websudoku.com states that all of their puzzles can be solved logically. That means you will never have to use trial and error or other strategies that aren't easy for humans to do. Because of that some of the diabolical puzzles aren't as hard as others. Some are quite simple relatively speaking. I guess this is one of the easier ones. Thanks for watching my videos! It seems you are an advanced sudoku player. I hope these videos sometimes help you!

      Thanks for taking the time to explain. I didn't mean to be rude, it's just that when I saw the word " diabolical ", I expected something insanely difficult. And as for my level, I guess I'm not bad, but can't consider myself advanced, that would be bragging...I still struggle with the ones where you have to use techniques like sword fish, chain forcing etc to get the result

      Don't despair. Keep at it. Make few dozens sudokus as best as you can and keep those not finished. Revise your theory and immediatly go back to the unfinished ones. You will be able to see what you did messy or clear AND have a fresh view at your old ones. Don't forget your subconscious work even if you are not aware of it. That will improve your 'fresh view' on things.
