Great question! If you're wanting to get something mass produced, I'd start with searching Alibaba. You can find great, verified factories from across the world and request samples of their products. You should first sort out what kind of dress you'd like. What material, what shape, etc. You can hire a Textile Designer to help you come up with concepts, but if it were me, I'd investigate the factories first and see if they already have something similar to what I want. From there, I'd hire a Textile Designer for pattern and any additional details - beading, embellishments, trim, things like that. ;)

A Print Designer is NOT considered a Textile Designer...That's an insult to REAL textile Designers..Any individual that is doing graphic prints is a Print Designer or Graphic Designer...a Textile Designer is more knowledgeable of fabrics from the fiber to the weave and weight...Textile designers know about fabric composition where as Graphic Print Designer don't.
You’re right; sorry if I miscommunication that. In my job as a Textile Designer, however, I’ve worked on plenty of screen printed and digitally printed textiles in addition to products that require knowledge of the construction. I’ve designed a digitally printed rug in addition to hand-knotted, hand-tufted, loomed, etc. I’ve designed screen printed silk pillows that had added embroidery detail. Graphic designers did not work on the product. They worked on marketing materials like catalog, advertisements, and website. So, there can be some overlap for sure! I hope that helps clarify. I’ve been designing textiles for 10 years now so I promise I know what I’m talking about. 💗
