how good are they at keeping the smell out and the ants away ... if you throw a sugar wrapper or something sweet like ice cream wrapper inside and close it . will there be ants ard the cover the next day..

Hi, it's good at keeping smell out but it's not air-sealed, so ants or lizards can still crawl in...

@@SunnySideUpLiving oh no.. sometimes i find myself throwing maybe a wrapper from a Snickers bar or a ice-cream or a sticky candy.. the wrapper sits in the "trash bin" and unless i take the trash out late at night to "clear it", the wrapper will be there until the next day.
i was hoping to find a rubbish bin with a cover that can close firmly.. but not so tight that you need BOTH hands to open it.. and hope the cover is closed enough that the smell from the trash inside dun come out, and even small ants also cannot crawl in.
      looks like its not possible..
what i do sometimes, is i spray the trash inside with insectide, to "poison" the rubbish so that the smell of insectide and the poison will keep ants and cockroaches away.. but its also makes the kitchen smelly from the insectide..lol

That's really smart, spraying the bin with insecticide!

@@SunnySideUpLiving i thought rather than spraying the "track" or "trail" from the bin to where ever the ants are.. Ants go to the bin, BECAUSE they know there is "food" there, so the source of the problem lies with the "food" in the bin. rather than trying to spray the walls or the area all around the bin.. why not just poison the food..so the ants will not want to eat it in the 1st place.. (if they do eat it, they will die of cos) but usually ants will sense the poison and keep away and pass the message down to their fellow workers that this "food source" is not safe.. so they will go and find some where else.

@@SunnySideUpLiving i saw on a Korean variety show, (that during the HOT Summer Months), because the Rubbish collector does not come EVERY Single DAY to clear the trash bin outside their house.. (they have certain days for recycling, and certain days they will collect rubbish i heard).. some ppl even put their "food waste" (inside bags) and then they FREEZE it in the freezer..
I was thinking WHY the HECK will you want to freeze rubbish or put rubbish inside ur freezer????
the reason is because, the idea comes from the winter.. when the temperature is very cold, the rubbish Dun "ROT" and "DUN SMELL", so food waste smell because they decompose or go BAD, in the hot weather very fast.. so by freezing the rubbish.. a "smelly banana skin" for example will turn solid hard and no smell, because its frozen...
so they keep the rubbish frozen for a day or so, until the collection day is here and then they throw it outside.. so the rubbish bin outside wont be super smelly from 2 or 3 days of waste food.
However thankfully.. we dun need to do so in Singapore... i cant forsee putting rubbish (even if bags) in a freezer..lol
