I tried to learn the tanbur, but my biggest problem was the Turkish language, which I found impossible to learn. I hope one day there will be English translations to these videos, and an English-language method book. I eventually sold my tanbur, which is a pity. I miss it, though, and hope to try again another day. Radyo - thank you for these videos.

There is a tanbur method book by Murat Aydemir with English translation. Seems like it was published after your comment.
