The way you sew and thrift your fabrics and such actually makes me feel more relaxed about sewing my own dresses and to not be so worried about making mistakes.
The shell bowls are super cute! I will mention that technically something vintage is 50 years old (100 years for antiques). The 90's are actually retro! Kids these days don't use those terms, though. lol
Actually, the term has since devolved to 20 years old for vintage. Select folks in the vintage selling community have adopted the phrase "true vintage" for styles 50 years old. And, as you mentioned 100 years for antiques. Retro is still on 10 years old as it's meant to recall fits of fashion nostalgia that are gone but not quite forgotten.
OH I love that skirt! What a find! I've recently started op-shopping for fabric and it's so much cheaper and more satisfying to use something existing rather than buying new fabric.
Nice shopping Janelle. When I was a child we went on lots of family and friends picnics and most people had very similar baskets to yours and they were used for carrying thermos of tea, coffee, and hot water. I love picnics, we even had a picnic on Christmas Day. Love the bed sheets, and the long skirt. 🥰
It was so fun to see what you selected. My favourites were 1) the yellow/golden rose sheets & pillowcases, 2) the golden shell bowls, 3) the flannel white & little Rose's material, 4) the green stripes, pink flowers on white sheets. 😊
I also love mismatched pillowcases! I talked myself into getting expensive new sheet and doona sets but I always find myself reaching for my old mismatching floral childhood pillow cases!
I did my first thrifting trip of 2022 today! I found a short sleeve Columbia brand shirt which will be nice for summer, a roll of cross stitch fabric, a small bag of quilting cotton which I got specifically for this beautiful piece of sunflower fabric, a vintage “women’s working clothes” pattern book, a small wooden frame, and a little framed piece of woven art. Great way to start off the year!
What a great haul, you found some fantastic pieces. I'm picturing the green stripe and floral fabric made into a dress with puff sleeves- it's giving me Jane Austen vibes.
Hi Janelle, what a way to start the New Year by thrift shopping with you. ..love it !!! You have such amazing thrift shops...my favourite item has to be the skirt. Like the colour. Thank you for sharing. Remain blessed xxx
Am also obsessed with basket bags. Paired with a gingham dress, I need to look like I am going on a picnic when I'm just going to the shops. 😄 Nice haul!
I was very tempted, but I already have my retro floral blanket that I want to make into a coat soon and didn’t think I needed too blanket/recycled coats.. I kind of do regret not picking it up though as it was soo pretty!
Yes, Baskets are wonderful. I've been obsessed with baskets since the 1970's. Thanks for sharing your finds. Loved the crabs in the shell bowls!! I truly enjoy your channel and all your fun projects. You are adorable.
🐚Amber glass shell bowls. 🧡Love colored glass, cute shapes, & have a bowl obsession. 😘 Adorable retro 90s outfit. The ribbed top & skirt are perfect together. 🔘Buttons can make such a huge difference on a garment. 😃Have a few pieces with either pearl white or gold ones that need to be swapped out. 🪡Just need to work up my nerve. 🤗Can't wait to see your 🆕 creations🧵 with all the vintage linen. Live vicariously through your 🌼girly prairie florals & flounces. 💛Love when you pair w/your slim, sporty hightop or a classic sneaker too. 💛Adore ultra feminine cottage & boho style〰️just feel silly in them😔. 🧐Finally, came to the conclusion I'm more of a minimalist when is comes to fashion in general. Prefer solid color bcos most pattern (at least on top) can make me feel dowdy🤣. Sometimes I can do a floral🌸, highly feminine print🦋, or pattern🐞 on a small accent like a headband, hatband, scarf, vest, corset, or even a full bottom (skirt or pant)⬇️. Although maybe more likely to wear a checkered, plaid, vertical stripe, geometric, or an abstract. 🧺 Thoroughly impressed w/your picnic wedding party theme 💒. 😁Sounds darling, informally charming, & so original. Did you let guests keep the food hamper in the end as a favor? Or did you have a wait-staff collect them or a drop-off point? What did you serve in them? Did you have throws available for guests to put on the ground or on haystacks? 🤔 Maybe consider doing even short teaser video presentation w/photos & props for your avid fans & followers as well as tease 🆕 viewers to your creative channel. 💚 Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
All the styles and colors from the 60’s are all coming back. Stores already have bellbottoms pants. I love the skirt I seen them everywhere and they are expensive. Great idea💕👍🏻👏🏼
love your videos and all your OP Shop finds. My friend and I went to Tasmania several years ago and had a stall at the big field Days near Launceston Spent some good times in the local OP Shops and both of the states Spotlight stores..I am sure that I recognise some of the stores you go to from this video and past ones
The skirt is lovely! That's probably my favourite. The floral flannel will make super cute pyjamas. I was blown away to hear about your picnic wedding reception - how cool is that! Love it! ❤ Congratulations by the way, I didn't realise you and Matt had tied the knot, whether recently or years ago... Probably me not paying attention 🙄 Thanks for sharing, I always love your thrift haul videos.
@@RoseryApparel how wonderful that you guys met when you were so young! ❤ I had to wait a very long time to find my soul mate - but he was totally worth waiting for 😊
Ha, as soon as I caught a glimpse of the 'Rose' fabric I though: 'OMG this is so Janelle, there is no way she wouldn't buy it' :) Baskets are life! I use them in my kitchen to store things like bread, fruit, snacks etc., they look beautiful and are super practical too. Pro tip: if there is a Polish/eastern European grocery store in your vicinity (and I find it hard to believe there isn't, my people are EVERYWHERE :D) you could probably get some baskets there near Easter, Polish Catholics have this weird custom of bringing a bit of food in a basket to a church to be blessed on Holy Saturday. That's how I stocked up on baskets anyway :) As someone who grew up in the 90s I confirm that the skirt practically screams 90s and personally I don't think it's a bad thing.
Happy Sunday Janelle. 🌞 I have some of the vintage yellow floral too! I’m interested to see what you will make from it. If I have enough left I might make it too. I remember last time you put it in one of your kits so I’m curious to know if you will make something yourself this time.🌸
Baskets, baskets, baskets! I too love baskets, and I have that same one which I found op shopping over 10 years ago. I have about 4 picnic baskets (my obsession) which I use for storage. Contents can be removed easily for use. Love watching your chanel, all the way up here in Qld😊
I love Amber glass but now I just want those mugs you passed in the op shop, the shell pearly pink ones! They are a blast from the past from my childhood memories! I was born in 75, my favourite decade was the 80's, not so much the 90's though regarding fashion, although I did love my brown tencel wide leg jeans and tencel wide leg overalls! Every decade had a very strong flavour but these passed 30 years, not so much, in my opinion.
Some really good finds love the fabrics, the shell bowls were used for prawn cocktails in the 70s. I just wish we had thrift shops like yours in North of England. X
I clicked on the video as fast as possible when i saw those shell bowls in the thumbnail, how cute are they?! Also, I love the dark button skirt and it's a perfect match for the ribbed tshirt! We don't have big thrift stores here where I am so I live the experience vicariously through you ahah thanks for sharing!
Oh my gosh, I didn’t realise you were based in Tassie!! Now I love you even more!! Launceston City Mission represent: best op shop in Tassie for retro stuff!
I love the shell bowls, I'm into shells in a big way anyway. I also love the gingham duvet cover, and if it were mine I would make several girls' dresses out of it.
Maddy from The Essentials Club posted a video recently where she was also op shopping, and was on the hunt for anything clam/shell style. She also found pretty cool shell bowls 😻
Hello, was just rewatching some of your videos and was wondering if you would do a pattern hack video on your Daisy dress on how to change the neckline.
I think my favourite is the rose fabric which you might use to make pyjamas. I was telling some friends about your videos earlier today, because they love going to charity shops (UK) and also want to learn to sew, so hopefully that’s 2 new subscribers! By the way, what does the “op” part of “op shop” mean?! Deb x
Great finds today. Love how fearless you are with creating and flipping. Please share your recomendations for scissors and shears please? You may find sponsors this way as well!
Hi Janelle I love all the things you found such good finds. I really love your channel. Just some feedback I find it hard to concentrate on what you are saying with the music in the background if it was possible it would be good to fade out the music when you were talking and fade it back in when you are not? seriously a minor thing but if it was an easy thing to do would be appreciated and if not dont worry Ill manage 😄
I love all of your dresses, u have beautiful taste. It would be amazing if u made dresses & sold them, I would buy so many. Thank u for sharing your videos, they're wonderful to watch & learn to sew.

love everything! ...but the bowls❤
They are pretty cute, aren’t they? 😍
That skirt with some nicer buttons is fab.
You reminded me how much fun it is to go thrift shopping. ,My favorite is the long dark print skirt.
OUCH!!! When you referred to 90's as vintage!!! I was born in 70s, so I imagine the current generation sees me like I saw the early 1900s! Lol😯
