I went to Coorg from Bangalore making it an exciting but very short trip. The journey accounted for 99% travelling in Bus and only 1% at the destination. This is because of the Jeep services in Madikeri (Kannada name for Coorg). Do not go in Jeeps unless you have no other option like me. The best way to go is by private vehicles or rentals (any 2-wheelers recommended). The roads here are made for off-roading hence regular vehicles will suffer. The reason why this trip was short is due to only 45mins allotted by the Jeep services. Is 45mins enough for you to enjoy a place is a question you must ask yourself and based on the answer you know what to do. Moreover they cost Rs.1500/- per jeep. So even if you go alone or go in six it will cost you Rs. 1500 - 2200. At this price you can easily get rentals and really enjoy your time at Mandalpatti according to your likings.
You can come to Coorg by Bus, Train or Air.
By bus it is straight forward. There is a Madikeri (Coorg) Bus stand and Mandalpatti is 22kms away from the Bus stand.
By Train, the nearest railway station is Mysore Junction. From here you have to catch another bus to Madikeri.
By Air, the nearest Airport is in Bangalore. From here it is 140kms. You can either come in a direct bus to Madikeri or book a cab according to your likings.
